All tied KOMs/QOMs/CRs should count and register on Profiles

Currently, if you equal a KOM, your achievement is only recognised on that segment's leader board. It is not recognised and does not appear in your personal list of KOMs on the 'KOMs/CRs' section of your profile page. This to me seems non-sensical and unfair, as that KOM only appears on the profile page of the person who first set the current KOM. Surely if two or more people have achieved the same time, they should each have it recognised in their personal list of KOMs on their profile page. It is by definition a shared record, and should be recognised by all who share it.

Or, if it is only possible to recognise one person for whatever - as it currently appears to be - it should appear on the profile page of the premium member, as they are financially contributing to the Strava site.

Thanks everyone for sharing your feedback with us about tied KOMs, QOMs and CRs.

Due to the overwhelming number of potential projects on our roadmap, we haven't had the chance to consider this yet.

  • I truly wish this would be sorted out. Surely it cannot be that difficult Strava for you to show the jointly held KOM segments. To achieve a KOM is a great personal achievement and shows your own personal improvement but then to discover that something so hard fought for has not been fully recognised is a tad annoying. Come on Strava, help us out.

  • Unfortunately applies to me too at segment Rollercoaster and guess what - when I tried to find this additional second just last weekend I again ended up with the very same time of 2:38!

  • It should not be too difficult for Strava to fix/solve this. I am also using Veloviewer; on this page they do show my shared KOMs as 'my' KOM.
Hopefully someone from Strava can help us. Or at least place some feedback in this topic.. Thanks in advance.

    Keep up the good work!

  • I see how many would want a KOM to show on their profile list of KOM's since it was an equal achievement. However, I disagree with Tom Parker stating  that one should appear on the profile a person with a Premium membership solely because they pay money and they alone should be singled out for preferred treatment. Strava is an online competition server recording site and the person that achieved a KOM 'FIRST', should actually get it on their profile list. Anyone else should only get a KOM recorded for a segment if they were in the same activity at the same time while they were riding together and racing together.

However, I disagree with Tom Parker stating  that one should appear on the profile a person with a Premium membership solely because they pay money and they alone should be singled out for preferred treatment. Strava is an online server recording site where you challenge yourself racing against others and the person that achieved a KOM 'FIRST', should actually get it on their profile list. Just as in a photo finish, two riders across the line would get the same time but the one that was inches ahead, getting over the line first actually wins the competition. Anyone else should only get a KOM recorded for a segment. However, one major issue (which actually happened to me), was when myself and another rider was riding the same segment at the same time. He was on my wheel the whole time while I was pulling, not only all of the way through the segment. This person was awarded the KOM crown on his profile list of KOM/Crs simply because he uploaded a couple minutes before I did. This to me is a major problem and the main issue. One of which is preventing me of ever paying for a premium membership since those of us that don't pay for unlimited data on our phone may wait (or have to wait if our data ran out) to go to a WiFi connection to upload and thus lose all of our chances to EVER have a KOM on our profile list of KOM/CRs.

  • I agree except for the second (last) para.

The only differentiating factors should be performance based, not money based (e.g. you generated more power or have a more complete file with bpm). It's SENSELESS BULLDUST that the first to get the KOM has it listed on their profile. Also discussed here https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208852047-Joint-KOM-s

  • I too agree that tied-KOMs should show up on each rider's profile page. Considering the segment's leaderboard permits sharing of KOM, I see no reason for Strava to not list the shared KOM on both riders' profiles. This has happened to me since my training partner reached home before me and uploaded his ride first despite the fact that we rode the segment together. The logic of giving KOM to rider who uploaded first makes no sense to me.

I hope Strava fixes this soon.

  • Agree. By definition equal KOMs should be shared equally.

  • I just started cycling this year and using Strava so for me it was a big achievement to get my first KOM.  Only to learn that it was a tie so it never showed up on my page:(

    please fix.

  • Agree 100% needs fixing (surely a simple fix...?)

Especially on short segments where leading times can be 40s or so.

  • I have over 100 tied KOMs that don't show in my list as I'm not the one who rode it first. As has been said, Veloviewer can manage it so can't be difficult to sort. It's annoying when you get thing like last years end of year report, only to find out the data included isn't actually correct. It would be nice for Strava to list ALL of my KOMs.

Come on Strava sort it out!

  • Yes this is crazy. On the day you get a tied KOM, strava  reports it as a KOM, to me if its reported as a KOM it should appear in your personal list as a KOM.

  • Yup, this makes no sense - those who've been on Strava longer have an effective advantage, and this problem will only get worse as more people join strava and create more ties on koms. There is no valid analogy here to world records I would say, as they generally have millisecond timing that make genuine ties very rare.
Extend this out far enough into the future, and it will take a superhuman effort to become "the KOM", rather than just joint kom, with no record of it in your stats. And even in the short term (even with Veloviewer currently), there's no way to identify which koms you've tied, to maybe have another go at - all you can do is derive the count of them (as far as I can see).

  • Strava does not see it as something 'serious' yet. See reply I received from their support.

    " Victor,

Thanks for reaching out. At the moment, there are no plans in the works change the way the leaderboards display. Your best bet is to chime in on the forums with feedback. Should it become an idea we're more seriously looking into, that feedback would then be taken into consideration.

    Best,

  • Agreed, but it shouldn't be premium related.

Was completely let down today when getting my first KOM. Worked my butt off for ages only to find out it didn't show shared KOMs

  • @Victor V, sounds like support misunderstood the request? "At the moment, there are no plans in the works change the way the leaderboards display". The change being requested wouldn't affect any kind of leaderboards at all, just the way an individual's profile stats (*list* of kom's achieved) is generated. May be worth going back to Miko?

I was actually just thinking about the timing accuracy that these KOMs are based on, which in reality I'm sure is often worse than the displayed 1-second precision, so the subsequent rider on the same "seconds", will often be faster...

  • Spot on Alan - the primary issue is the lack of listing in the KOM/CRs tab of user profiles.

You can't blame Strava for having no plans to alter the global "leadersboard display" as, no doubt, in most popular segments you may have way too many people at number 1. Still, even this 2nd would be nice...

Regardless and for completeness, KOM listings should not be a Premium feature.

  • Having got more ties recently, I raised this directly with Strava too. They understood, they just don't really care. "...currently no plans to fix this are in the works." No additional users or revenue from it, so low priority I guess, even if most people affected by it are probably premium paying members.

From a fix point of view, it is probably pretty trivial, but at the moment, I doubt they've even created a work item or estimated a fix time for it. In the meantime, maybe up-voting Tom's post might help?
