  • Love the challenges, however, I think the changing distances cause some uproar.

Why not have two distance challenges every month that remain constant, 100km and 160km.

I'm not sure hwo popular the jerseys are, but I for one think they're naff, but I may be tempted with a patch similar to the Rapha Festive 500, this could be a cheaper, but far more popular option?

  • New ideas for challenge rewards such as toolkits etc. plus at a reasonable price, then what about a couple of challenges for different levels of riders, for example a 4000m climbing challenge, an 8000m one and a 20+ one or something like that, i like it when there are other challenges as well rather than the regular mts, granfono and climbing challenges.

  • you could add hours challenge- like riding for 50 hours in a month (in moving time, or while cycling faster than 10mph etc).

other idea, or combine distance and climb challenge (just like we have Kilowattshours, we could have distance x elevation formula, lets say 1km of distance x 10*km of elevation, so in this challenge 1 km on flat would equal 0,5km of 10% climb.

  • I was attracted to Strava because of the idea of challenges (and comparing my efforts to others), however I quickly realized that my reality doesn't jive very well with the idea of long rides and big climbs (something that resonates through this forum). I'm a commuter, in Canada, which means riding the same route(s) over-and-over and cold/snow for 4-5 months of the year (making it harder to ride). Could it be possible to do something for my demographics? Maybe:

1- A commuter badge: number of rides or km ridden along the same path (predefined, or the one riden most, or starting and ending at the same spot (my preferred option), one way in morning and the other way in evening or else it doesn't count), or kms during peak hours of weekdays (6-9am, 3-6pm)?

2- A cold riding badge: my Garmin calculates temperature (mostly wrong, but still...) or partner with a weather website to get realtime temperatures to see how many rides/kms ridden in sub-freezing temperatures. Or ridden in the dark as the sun goes down early and is up late (although we all do it, this may be thought as being dangerous)?

These may not be of interest to all, but seeing that most other badges are for people having the time (and energy) to do long distances in tropical and moutainous climates, I would love to see something better targetted  at myself and the many commuters and northerners. Just some thoughts.

  • It would be nice to see a discount on challenge gear. The more challenges you complete the more discount you get. Also maybe extend the Challenge gear to accommodate other cycling/running goodies

  • Add a challenge for covering the most segments in a time period. and add actual physical badges as an option.

I would buy one strava jersey if I could put my greater accomplishment badges on it.

  • Add a challenge to complete the most segments possible during a designated period of time.

Add an option to buy actual physical badges for monthly 1250K or climbing challenges, and seasonal challenges.

I would buy a strava jersey once to apply badges to but not repeatedly.

  • How about if you complete all 12 of the MTS or climbing challenges, you are given the option to buy an extra 'all 12 complete' jersey?

  • I agree with Steven Robinsons comment that it'd be nice to get to keep the "sub-badges" for the monthly MTS (and other challenges featuring milestone badges), so that you get to keep the milestone badges even if you don't reach the full 1250km for example.
I'd also love to see more long-term challenges, lasting several months or perhaps a whole calendar year, for example "Ride 10 000km between Jan 1 and Dec 31", or climb 100 000m in 12 months..?

  • I like the challenge of longer rides, but completely understand that not everyone can complete them.  Instead of offering (with the expense of multiple manufacturing runs) multiple length specific jerseys for months with multiple lengths, why not just make it one jersey for anyone completing the challenge for the month?  I don't care if my jersey says 150 or 130 - no one cares.  Do multiple challenges each month, but one jersey for everyone.

  • I would really like to hear back from Strava on what their roadmap is for rolling out new and interesting challenges, in addition to a mix and more attainable ones. You all have surely collected a lot of opinions and data by now, so what are your plans?

  • The current Everest climbing challenges is only available for cyclists. Please add the ability for runners to complete this challenge. Maybe by completing half the elevation or the elevation in feet instead of meters. You can't ride up Everest anyway, so why would runners be excluded :)

  • I'd also like to be able to filter out challenges from my feed.  I am not interested in them so seeing them for everyone that is is just clutter for me.

  • And from the June GF :

    ---
Each of the three summer Gran Fondos will get progressively harder this year, beginning with June’s 115km Challenge, then 130km in July and culminating with a 150km fondo in August.
    ---

no hope for a 300km challenge soon....

  • A bigger variety of challenges would be nice. Yes, it is nice to see how much you have run/ridden this month or to do a 100/130/160k ride but every month it starts to get old pretty soon.

How about some fun new stuff?

    • Explorer Challenge: ride a route of at least XXkm which you have never ridden before
    • The more the Merrier Challenge: ride with at least X friends
    • Improvement Challenge: do the same run/ride at least twice -> rate of improvement counts
    • Sufferscore Challenge: finish an activity with a sufferscore of at least X
    • Batman Challenge: distance ridden/run after sunset
    • Sahara Challenge: distance ridden/run at temperatures >30°C
    • Yeti Challenge: distance ridden/run at temperatures <0°C
    • Good old Times: redo an old activity (maybe even suggest one randomly or from same date X years ago)
    • PR Challenge: break one of your PRs

Also, Multisport or Triathlon Challenges would be great.

    • Brick Challenge: Do X runs off the bike / run distance X off the bike
    • Multisport-Day: Do at least two different sports on one day for X days
    • Combining: cycle at least distance x + run at least distance x + swim at least distance x
    • Same as above but with time (more beginner friendly) or elevation, might be even different for each sport (i.e. climb at least X on bike + run at least X km + swim at least X hrs)

  • I would like to see the badges set up in this format:

A participant would receive one badge per event entered but receive a different level number or a different coloured badge for the distance/elevation achieved.  Example,  An MTS challenge would award level 1 @ 250km, level 2 @ 500km, Level 3 @ 1000km etc. with the the distance/elevation doubling for each level.

This would create goals/achievements for athletes of all levels.  I personally sign up for the challenges but always fall short mostly because of time constraints(family with young kids) I enjoy the challenges but I just don't have the free hours a month to attain some of these challenges :)

  • Having completed the running 'Adventure Challenge' and living in the UK - I was disappointed to see that the "reward" vest was in fact $28 + $15 shipping. It's NOT A REWARD at that price!

  • Would love to see sub-challenges / badges be something that users could keep if they don't finish the whole challenge.

Completing a challenge for the right to buy a £70 cycling top isn't a reward - that's the right to buy something that you may just go and buy in a cycling store. Surely completion of the challenge should yield rewards and not the right for Strava to milk money out of users.

  • I really like the way Nike+ and Runtastic keep track of my total performance. So i get an award for the first 10k, 50k, 500k etc. It is really motivational for me. Also what i would like to see is when I improve on a PR i want to see how much i improved upon it. Was is 1 second or 1 minute.

  • I think that the challenge should include past workouts within the challenge period if you join so long as they met the "no manual entry, no trainer workouts, etc." criteria.

  • Good Morning. I see that there is more of a Challenge for the Aug distance Challenge, 150K. Great news but I think for a lot of the original early members like myself this is not challenging enough for me, let others speak for themselves. Here is my reasoning; I was in a rut with my cycling and training in 2012, when someone told me about Strava and how it works, after checking the information I joined with Premium membership and have never looked back. Strava really reinvigorated my cycling, I compete in solo events and do not race in group setting so these challenges were wonderful and the KOM's are the "bomb" to get me out the door climbing. Now after doing a couple of Cent Col Challenges with Rapha I am looking for a different level for a Challenge. Surely there are more of your customers who seek to have a challenge set before them that goes to the next level say; 200K ride, 250K ride or climb 20K feet in a day etc. I live in the same town with Brian Toone and I am older so I cannot do what Brian does but I do get out the door all year round by 4am if not sooner and ride at least over 325 miles per week, set to get to 1,000,000 plus feet of climbing I and see there are others who might benefit from a more difficult challenge. I want to see you continue to be leaders with this social training thing, so give something to chew on and make us hurt and feel the pain of growing to the next level.

  • Have there been Sprint Challenges? I'll admit, I don't know how they'd be calculated or executed but, it seems an obvious designation (since you already have climbers and endurance categories) I also really like Eva D's ideas below. Challenges for exploration, improvement, revisiting old routes, etc.

  • Can we have an option to see the elevation in ft instead of meters (to match the elevation report on my rides)?

  • I would like to point out that the Strava "Challenges" are very hemisphere-centric. I live in Victoria Australia (where it is very cold in Winter and there is snow on the mountains I ride) and it seems that as soon as winter ends here, the challenges I like participate in suddenly stop, as it it winter in the Northern hemisphere. It seems unfair that we do not get to participate in as many challenges (climbing challenges in particular) as the rest of the world, due to winter conditions that make climbing mountains on a road bike next to impossible.

Would you please consider including some climbing and distance challenges during our spring summer months (September - Feb) that we have a realistic chance to participate in. Also, you might want to think about the language used in the challenge descriptions, to say something like "celebrate the end of summer with climbing 11,000m" is ignoring the fact that Strava is used by the other half of the world as well!

  • Strave "Races" challenges are really lame right now. "Races 10k" means you just have to go out and run a 10k. You don't even need to categorize it as a race!

My recommendation is that in order to achieve the "Races 10k" challenge, you have to either meet or exceed your current estimated best for that distance. And you could offer the full range of distances,  so if you want to "Race 5k" then to get the achievement you need to set a new 5k PR that month. Challenges are pointless if they are too easy.

  • Greetings everyone!

I have joined Strava recently and I love it! I find the idea with the challenges really interesting. My humble opinion on the system:

    What I like:

    - It definitely boosts my motivation big time and brings lots of flavor to my workout planing.

What I think can be improved:

    - Many beginner riders like me have already mentioned that there is a need of easier challenges as well! We need wider variety of challenges for everyone to participate and enjoy! Make the badge rewards different ranks and this will solve most of the problems! For example rank 1 for distance (monthly) - 100km, rank 2 - 300km, rank 3 - 500km ... and so on and so forth. This way there is going to be some challenge for everyone. For the beginners - the first few ranks , for the pros - the highest rank of the badge.

    - We need wider variety of badges, because currently a certain challenge is eather unimaginably hard for most of the beginners ... or just really easy for most of the pros. We need to have something for everyone! That`s why I would suggest the badge ranking system, as explained above.

    Thank you. : )

    Regards,

    Nikolay
