Seems like terrible battery life since recent updates

It seems like since the last two recent updates, the first update which changed around the record screen to require a few more clicks, and which also made the background screen white, plus a bugfix, the battery life seems very poor.

Could the Strava version prior to this update be available in the Apple store?  I have no use for these updates.  Battery life is important because an iPhone 5s offers just enough battery capacity to record a 100mile/~9hr MTB ride (with cellular data turned off).  Since battery life appears to be adversely affected by these two updates I have doubts if the entire activity could be recorded.

Alternate resolution could be to take the current version and strip out the live tracking and route following features to make it Strava lite in order to offer improved battery life/reduced usage for those of us who record extremely long events.

  • Thanks Charles - we appreciate the feedback.

Be sure you've turned off the setting for any live features, etc. as that could help your battery life. I don't think it's likely that we'll offer a second version of the app, but your feedback is still valuable.

  • Actually, I can't find setting in the new app version 4.5.1. No option to turn off live tracking, no option to disable or enable auto pause during running or cycling activities.

  • Charles, from the Strava app click to view the record screen. Just above the record button to the left is the record settings button. You'll be able to adjust auto-pause and Strava live settings there.

  • I would go further than battery life, but I have also seen that problem.  Since the latest update, I have had some screwy results where the distance of a ride/run was right on, but the time was all wrong.  It's as if the time stopped when I stopped for a traffic signal, and didn't restart properly.  Just a reminder strava, when you add new bells and whistles, don't break the basic functionality!!  1. record the GPS track, 2. record the time, 3. give me plenty of battery life, because I might be out on trails or roads for 10-12 hours, and I MIGHT actually want to use my phone for something else in that time.
