  • I have the exact same issue with the first split when starting the activity with the watch. I have had a 2mo conversation with support where they are totally unhelpful. I had to break down the issue and manually reproduce it for them, because they didn't seem to be able to.

Glad to see someone else has the issue.

  • This is an ongoing problem that Strava are convinced is a problem with OS. I used to get this error every few weeks, but it hasn't happened now for months. sorry I know that doesn't help.

  • I've been having an issue where the watch app won't connect with the iOS app.  I launch the app on the watch and it just get the 3-dot-dance for a loong time followed by either "There was an error..." or "Check for prompts...".  Of course, there is nothing on the phone - no amount of force-quitting, re-launching, etc. will help.  The ONLY thing that will work is rebooting both the phone and the watch.  Then it will work fine for a day or two, then it happens again.

  • I'd also love to see Strava record workouts to Apple's Activity app.

    Any chance this will happen?

  • Since installing Strava a couple days ago my Apple Watch constantly shows that it's in workout mode even when Strava is closed. I can't Stop rides from the watch, it just freezes then continues recording. One time yesterday I was able to stop recording from the Strava app on my watch but then I watched my phone go through some flickering between a successful upload and a server error. The phone app seems to be working fine for recording, auto-pause and saving rides but it's really messing up my activity tracking on my watch and draining its battery since the HR sensor stays on. No amount of restarting both devices or uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixes the issue. I have removed the app from my watch and I'll just run an outdoor cycle workout on the watch while recording my cycling distance in Strava in my phone. I've turned off Strava's ability to write data to the Health App. Pretty bummed.

  • Please can anyone talk me through getting the hr to work in my iwatch? It worked perfectly the first few times and now can't get it to activate. I've got a iPhone 6. All apps and phone is up to date, I've deleted the apps several times, changed the health settings, re paired the watch but nothing works! Can anyone help or walk through what the best way to set it up is?? Driving me mad!

  • I have been using the Strava beta version (invited via testflight). I noticed that the new live segment feature was working on my iPhone two versions ago. However, the live segment feature does not seem to work anymore in the latest two beta versions.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • I have a report with them about incorrect splits in the first mile. Here is their latest update:

"No engineer has been assigned to the matter as of yet. It will likely be some time before it gets some attention due to the low number of users effected. Unfortunately, that's the state of things for now. Any updates can be sent to you directly."

  • Hi,

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I've been using the Strava app on my Apple watch since the start of the year and haven't had any problems until now,

Last Thursday I couldn't stop the session on my watch, by swiping right and hitting stop or by force press.  Each time the stop icon 'popped' indicating the press had been made but the only way I could stop the session was to pull out my phone.  I had the same issue with trying to finish the session and again resorted to finishing it on my phone.  The same happened on Sunday.

Last night I pulled up the Strava app to start another run, the start button appeared as usual but when pressed it, I got the continuous dots which usually disappear after a few seconds - in this instance the app didn't start recording until almost a mile into my run.

Is anyone else experiencing such problems?

I've had that error occasionally. I haven't been able to figure out why or how to recreate it consistently. When it does happen, I find that the run has been uploaded to Strava correctly. I then "force quit" the watch app by using the method described here: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/apple/how-force-quit-apple-watch-app-3611762/

After that, I try the app again, and make sure it's starting correctly. If it doesn't (it usually does) then I uninstall Strava from the watch and then reinstall it, and restart both my phone and the watch. I haven't had to do that for some time now though.

Also, before starting a run I always make sure that the watch face has gone onto the running screen before setting out, otherwise you do tend to lose part of your run.

    Hope this helps,

    John

  • Hi everyone,

I can't get the app to work on my Apple Watch. It just see the three little dots loading permanently. When I do get the Bike icons and star a ride I get a message to check my phone for prompts and the Bluetooth settings. I've done all that but it's still not working. Help would be great. Thanks

  • Since installing 4.19.0 (June 20th 2016) on my iPhone the watch app no longer works.  I'm running iOS 9.3.2 on a 5c and my watch is on 2.2.1

Now when I open the watch app to start recording it won't switch sport and attempting to start the activity just results in an empty screen with spinning heart.  If I restart the watch then the first time I attempt to use the app it appears to just crash when starting the activity or switching sport (after a few seconds cuts back to watch home screen).

I've tried removing and reinstalling the app on both watch and phone but same behaviour.

I've had about 2.5 months of relatively trouble-free use prior to this.

  • Experiencing exactly the same issue with the watch as described in the previous post (also a 5C).  Strava support recommended to do a full remove and reinstall of the app on both phone and watch but this did not solve the issue unfortunately.

  • Running iOS 9.3.2 on iPhone 5C with Apple Watch 2.2.1 and Strava v4.19.0 (4370). Every time I try to START Strava from the Apple Watch, I get a black screen on the Watch and then it reverts back to the START screen.

Once in a while, I'll see "Error. Check Strava on your iPhone for prompts. Also, be sure Bluetooth is enabled in Settings", but I see no prompts and bluetooth is enabled.

It does appear that clicking START on Watch, starts the Strava app on the phone but nothing appears on the watch,

  • Stopped recording after new update from my apple watch. It will not start recording then I get an error message telling me to check for prompts on my app that is on my phone or to see if by bluetooth is on. I had no prompts and my bluetooth is on. It also will not switch from cycling back to running. Loved that app until now.

  • When i start run from the Watch i get dots moving on the Watch screen and the app does not move to start button. I waited couple of minutes to check what happened. Closed app on the Watch and on the phone. It did not help. A quick solution for that problem is to turn on and off Air plane mode on the Watch and on the phone. I have iPhone 6 and Watch with latest iOS and Strava installed. Would be great if you could correct this issue.

  • Re my issue above with being unable to use Strava on my Apple Watch with my iPhone 5c.  After a month or so of back and forth with support there is now a separate page which acknowledges that there is a general issue with Strava on the iPhone 5 & 5c:

  • I have an iphone 5, iOS 9.3.3, iWatch 2.2.2 and Strava 4.21.0. Strava doesn't work at all on the iWatch. Somewhere in the version upgrades the iwatch functionality completely stopped working. Because it worked properly on the watch before.

On my watch it just freezes when starting Strava. And it does not allow me to change sports. all of this worked perfect in earlier versions, no, I don't know which version.

The things I tried: uninstalling Strave and install again, and unpairing and pairing the iwatch and install strava separately.

I just come from the Apple support desk, they directed me to Strava.

Can you please advise me what to do? Strava is by far the most effective app I have on my watch.

    Thank you very much.

  • Don't think it is an iPhone 5 issue only.  I see the same behavior that is described in @SteveLay posts for an iPhone 6.

Sometimes I can get it to start recording an activity on the phone through the watch, but the screen on the watch is blank and the second screen shows the spinning heart icon.  Other times when starting an activity on the watch I get an error message, but this seems to happen because the watch and phone are out of sync (i.e. the phone continues to record an activity, but the watch doesn't think anything is happening).  Also, can't switch between sports.

Did all the "when in doubt power out" stuff (i.e. uninstall/re-install apps, turn off/on, etc.) without any luck.  Made sure everything was enabled in the iPhone Health app as well.

It is also a bit disappointing to see the watch app needs to pair with the phone.  This is probably not an issue for cyclist since most carry a phone anyway for emergencies, but for runners that want to travel light this seems like a disadvantage.  However, should start by getting the apple watch app to work again.

I would expect to see these kind of problems from Garmin ;), but you guys are usually leading the way for fitness apps.

  • With respect to the issue I and others are having with the newer builds not working with the Apple Watch..

I have this morning managed to downgrade the App on my iPhone to version 4.18.0 and it appears to be working again (even with the newer iOS 9.3.3 and WatchOS 2.2.2).

If you sync your phone to a Mac, have frequent backups or the technical skills required to compensate then you can get it working again too while we wait for a proper fix.

Before I started I turned off auto app updates on my phone: Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads: Updates turned OFF.  I then removed the Strava app from my phone.

    http://osxdaily.com/2012/05/16/save-ios-apps-and-downgrade-app-to-previous-version/

I followed these instructions to find, backup and restore an old version of the app using iTunes on my Mac.  This worked for me BUT the last version of Strava synced with my Mac was 4.9.2.  With this version, the icon doesn't show properly on the watch screen but amazingly it does actually work which makes it better than the current build for me.

    For the brave...

    http://www.idownloadblog.com/2015/12/25/how-to-download-older-versions-of-ios-apps/

This next article, and the accompanying video, exposes some of the inner workings of the App store and enables you to hand-pick the version you want to downgrade to but it requires a bit of IT expertise to do safely in my opinion.  Watch the video first and don't try it if it looks too scary or you don't understand what you're doing.  Using this technique I was able to download and install version 4.18.0 to my Mac and then sync it to my phone.

  • Any idea when strava for Apple Watch will upload info/data to the apple activity app??? Other 3rd party health and fitness apps which support Apple Watch update the activity app.

  • If you experience wrong time for the first KM when starting activity with Apple Watch, I have a workaround till the Strava Tech solves this problem. Use Apple map on the Watch. Wait untill You have your possition fixed and then go to Strava and start activity. I have done it couple of times already and no first KM issue so far.

  • Turn off... TURN OFF... TURN OFF!!!

The amount of times Strava keeps on running in background after completing an activity is wholly annoying... Just when you think it’s turned off, you flip your wrist and.....NOPE! Little Green running man and Battery at 3%, along with Strava saying I’ve burned 12 million calories today.

The app needs to shut down completely after completing an activity, but it does not. Very annoying!

Same with Watch os2 and os3

  • Hi,

i have the same Problem like

    Radek Polewczyk:

Please provide "lock screen" function to Strava app on Apple Watch. Such option is available in Apple Workout app during activity (hard press->lock screen).

Sweaty sleeve of my rain jacket keeps interrupting my activities! Thanks in advance

  • Feature request: It would be awesome to have the commute-toggle added to the summery page you get after finishing a ride on the Watch! It is really annoying to edit every ride just to activate this toggle!

  • Pretty much my only reason for getting the iWatch 2 (well, apart from the Vitality discount) was to pair it with Strava which I use every day. I now find that (despite indications to the contrary) the Strava App doesn't launch on my watch, and even if it did my Strava workouts would not register in Health (and so would not register with Vitality anyway). 5 days in, I am seriously disappointed with both Apple and Strava as this is unacceptable from both

  • Runs do show up in Apple Health.

It's likely not apple's fault that Strava crashes.
