  • Please let users choose what comes on the map or photo. In a lot of flat country's elevation is not a thing. However AVS and AVpace it is!!.

  • I mean that it would be nice if you can choose the stats you want. For example AVS instead of elevation.

  • @Almer: you can choose a map or a photo:

If you’ve attached photos to your activity, you will be prompted to select what you’d like to share (a map or photo). If you don’t have any photos uploaded to your activity, you will still be able to share the map image. We’ll add relevant stats to your shared image.

  • I was directed here in a response to a support ticket I opened on the subject. Here is what I said in the initial statement:

    Good morning,

Apparently sometime over the last few days, the way that Facebook sharing works has changed. For one, I now had to install the official Facebook app to share my ride from my phone. That is very annoying, as I very much dislike having the official Facebook app installed, but now Strava will now be the sole reason I have it installed on my phone.

Secondly, the text on Facebook now says, "Ben shared a link" instead of "Ben biked 21.7 miles with Strava". This might sound silly, but I like when it sounds more automatic instead of it looking like I am manually pointing people towards my ride (even though that is what I am doing, since I don't want EVERY ride to be shared automatically, just the significantly longer ones.) I think having it seem more automatic would also be better for you (Strava), as a less hands-on process would likely be more appealing to non-users.

Thirdly, I think the new map looks way worse than the old map. The gradient shading combined with the image compression makes the new map look low res, instead of the flat, pleasingly high-res enough old map, which also had "Start" and "Finish" indicators.

Lastly, miles per hour is no longer displayed on the shared snippet that appears on Facebook.

I am a big proponent of Strava among friends and acquaintances, having helped a lot of people migrate over from Endomondo and RunKeeper (or from not having used any kind of activity tracker). Even going so far as to buy GPS devices for family to make tracking easier/more intuitive. These kind of changes really kill my vibe.

One other thing I'd like to mention, which I haven't been able to test yet, is that when I would try to share an activity from the website, in the past, it would appear on my timeline as having been posted when I started the ride, instead of when I finished or when I chose to share it. That was why I would choose to share from my phone instead of from strava.com, which is actually what I would prefer to do in the first place.

    Cheers and thanks,
    Ben

  • I really like this feature, but the image quality severely degrades up to an extent that I don't want to share the image anymore.

So, please, ease on the compression/filtering!

  • Strava automatically uploaded version 4.21.0 on iOS and I do not have the Instagram sharing feature for the stats overlay to share.

How can I go about being able to use this new feature??

  • @Raquel - do you have the Instagram app installed on your phone? Can you pass along more info about the steps you are taking when attempting to share from Strava to Instagram?

  • Elle - all of my apps are fully updated and so is all of my software. Yes I have Instagram and Strava apps on my Iphone. When I try to use the share button on Strava, the instagram app is not there. Only Facebook and Twitter are options to share. I have made sure that all of the instagram features are turned on. When I try to share the activity, I press the "more" button, but instagram is not there.

  • @Raquel, I have some steps to recommend. On my iPhone there are two "More" buttons on the iOS share screen, and I want to make sure you're selecting the right one.

    1) From Strava, select the share button from on of your activities.

    2) Choose Activity Photo and press "Share" in upper right corner.

    3) Scroll all the way to the right on the TOP row of apps. Do not click "More" next to "Copy".

    4) Open the Activities window and enable any apps you wish to share to, and rearrange as desired.

  • Elle - I have 2 "more" buttons too...but both of them do not have the instagram feature on them.

When I open the activity photo, there is nothing to press in the top right hand corner....

  • As Almer suggested, I'd really like to be able to customise which stats are overlaid on the image - e.g. on a hilly run, elevation gain is what I want to show off, not pace!

Being able to use this feature from the website rather than mobile app, would also be appreciated.

  • I tried to link the actual activity to some friends using Facebook messenger and the Strava app, and all they got was a static picture with bare bones stats as an overlay? How can I (with Android) share the actual activity link? This change seems like a terrible one to me.

  • This doesn't work on the Android version with pictures that you've linked to in Instagram. So you end up having to manually re-upload the pictures from your phone. Then you can share it and have 2 sets of the same picture on your activity.

  • Dear Strava,

I tried to discover which routes in my region are most useful for every day training withr a racing bike. The page asks me to sync, share, use all kinds of technology tricks but does not tell me anything organised about the routes other users have found good. I only like to know which routes are the best ones without sand roads etc.

Please move the technology nerds' approach in the background and the needs of the customers in front page so that they can easily navigate on the page and find the information provided by other users easily. (This is intended to be constructive critics.)

    Regards, JA
