How do I log an upcoming race?

My Strava page says that I have no upcoming races. This wrong-- I have 2 races coming up. However, I can not seem to find any way to correct this.

- I went to the calendar and I can't add a future activity.
- I went to the "Featured Running Races" but my races aren't listed, and when I tried to add them, the form discouraged me from doing so. "Why should we add this race? (Not just because you're running it!)"
– I went to "goals" and there was no option to set a goal race.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you,
Ben

Featured Running Races are currently limited to specific events and dates curated by our team, unfortunately. We've received a lot of feedback about building better tools for our athletes to plan and prepare for events in the future, as well as share their upcoming events with their community. This is something we hope to add to the Training Log feature, but work is not currently planned. Please continue to use the ^ option to add your vote to this topic and leave your comment.

  • I am looking at moving from manually using google cal and am shocked to see that I can't even input my future races onto the calendar. from what I read not even in the premium app. sounds, well...like a basic functionality. guess I'll stick with regular for now and see if anything becomes available in premium in the future.

  • no sir. looks like you can put a race if they already have it (don't need premium) but cannot add one manually. since they only have major races it is kind of useless.

  • I got a reply from Strava, via email. I need to go home and find it.

I do remember that they fellow who replied said that it would be impossible for the to create and maintain a complete list of all races. When I get home tonight I'll see if I can dig up his reply and I'll post it back here.

Thanks for getting back to me Rudolph.

I checked the link that you provided (Training Plans) and it doesn't provide what I'm looking for. I don't want a training plan. I just want to put my upcoming races on my calendar, as described in my previous message.

I hope that this is a feature that can be added in the future. It seems to me that others would enjoy this feature as well, as many runners' primary goal is to run a race and are focused on preparing for their upcoming race(s). It would be wonderful to discover other athletes who are training for the same race as I am.

Also, I wanted to add a comment. Currently any user can create a "segment." In the same regard, couldn't users theoretically add future races? I certainly wouldn't expect the Strava staff to be responsible for maintaining a database of worldwide races.

    Hello,

I apologize for the inconvenience. Currently to my understanding you can use the Training Plans to train for certain races and race dates.

    https://www.strava.com/athlete/training-plans/running

Regarding the featured running races, as a small Tech company we can currently support every race on the globe. Sorry about that. hopefully in the future this will be applicable.

For the time being you'll need to fill out the race form to have it added to our race database.

I hope you have a wonderful day and keep up the great work.

    Best,

  • Hi all, I pasted in his reply above. Does anyone see it? For some reason, when I'm not signed it, it doesn't appear. And when I sign in, it does appear.

Anyway, long story short, the guy from Strava said that it's a nice idea and maybe they'll add it someday.

  • I can't get a race that is listed on the Strava list of races to show up on my feed page, even after I've indicated I'm going. I know this used to work a short while back.

  • Hi Ben,

The best feature that we currently have to track your upcoming running races is through Featured Running Races. It shouldn't be a problem to add most races, if you fill out the form. However, I'm not sure which criteria we use in selecting which running races to feature.

Also we are currently working on the ability to add planned activities and races to the Training Log on the website.

Thanks for your patience and stay tuned.

  • I have a similar issue as well. I have tried multiple times to add the Medtronic Twin Cities marathon to the featured races list with no response. In fact over the course of the last year I have tried to add multiple races (all relatively popular races) with no response. Does anyone know how Strava decides which races to add?

  • I'm a paying Strava user. It doesn't make a difference— I can add a race only if it's on Strava'a list.

  • Useful info this. Now to track down the form and attempt to add the Cape Town Marathon to the Featured Races list....

  • “The form” seriously @ElleAnderson.. It seems Strava needs to seriously re-prioritise their backlog. A ton of effort is being put in non-core features while a lot of fundamentals* are quite buggy/crappy. They need some competition to force them to focus. imho.

  • Hi Timo, we are working on this and we understand it's not an optimal system to rely on Strava staff to manually create races .

Jason, here's the article with the form information, and I'll add it to the pinned post as well.

  • It seems ridiculous that an individual can't even put down the date of the race that they are training for in their training calendar. That would not require Strava to curate a list of races at all- merely allow someone to edit their own calendar. If it can automatically calculate the miles of my shoes and find which people were running on my block at the same times as me, it can't be that hard to look at an event in my calendar to say "X days until: Insert_Name_of_Half_Marathon", can it?

  • I agree Amy C.

It used to say in huge letters: "You have no upcoming races" every time I visited Strava. Yet, I did have upcoming races, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Now, it's smaller, and it says "You have no races, events or goals coming soon."

I'm training for a 5K right now. But it still says I have no races. It's a real downer.

There's a Google form for submitting a race, but I don't know how reliable that is. And it still makes you enter a justification for request a race— "Why do you think this race should be added?" — which you must answer in order to submit the form.

  • It seems quite simple, if you aren't going to allow users to manually enter their races in their training logs, and you lack the capacity for users to link to all the races they are planning on running, then get rid of the text that says "You have no races, events, or goals coming soon." It's a lie. It really means "You have not signed up for any Strava-approved races."  So just get rid of that text. Make the default blank. Obviously the ideal solution would allow people to enter any race they wanted. But a simple stop-gap would be to get rid of the annoying message that tells people they don't have any races coming up when we know very well we do, and that Strava is just not the fitness app to use to track your training for most of them.

  • Great points raised Amy - I've shared the feedback with the team and I hope it will help us shape the future of races on Strava. Thanks.

  • i am a premium member and would also like this feature added. i find the races listed to be very few...like maybe <1% of all the races out there and it has never listed a race i have done. you really need a way we can add legit races that we've done. would be nice to track it all on one site.

  • This feature seems like a no-brainer.  All you would have to do is add a text entry field on each member's profile for their Next Race.  Strava would not have to maintain any kind of race list.  This race would show up directly below the member's profile picture.  This would make it easy to find out what other members are training for.

I hate having to always ask people if they are training for a specific race and when it is.  Even after they tell you, it is difficult to keep track of especially when you are following 20-30 people or more.  This improvement wouldn't allow you to see other members though that are training for the same race but it would be a nice feature until something like this can be programmed.

  • What is the issue? Strava must be usable for setting a personal, eventually private, not segment or watt (power) related goal!!!!!

  • This is so depressing. I have a pro account. There's a training calendar. Yet I have no way to add my upcoming races to the calendar. The event page has no search function, this is so so sad.

  • It would be nice if race promoters could add their events into strava and have runners join the event or club.

  • This would be such a nice feature to have. I currently use a spreadsheet to mark upcoming races and keep up with training.  To have it all in one app would be amazing.

  • The ability to add custom/future race events in the calendar and the ability to build a training calendar is the one reason I am still paying for Training Peaks and feeding my Strava data into Training Peaks.  If Strava had this it would be my one app site for all my training data instead of just a data source.  Plus if it is the goal of Strava to enhance it's social networking features why not have the ability to share scheduled race and training calendars?

  • Adding my comment to this list -- I think it's a bit misleading to even have the option to 'add a race as a goal' on your landing page, if you can only add from the list curated by Strava employees.

  • +1 for this feature. IMO, at this stage of development Strava should have at least rudimentary training/racing planning tools for subscribers. C'mon Strava!

Seeing 'you have no races, events or goals...' on  the dashboard is quite irritating (and confusing) -  most of us do! :-)
