Turn By Turn Notifications For Wahoo Bolt

Hi,

Been reading up on the Wahoo Bolt GPS unit and it was mentioned that using the Strava route builder does not allow for the Wahoo Bolt to offer TBT directions, however, using alternative websites like RidewithGPS or Kamoot does. Will this ever be looked into?

I much prefer the simple Strava route builder interface, and this is something of importance to me.

  • the omission of this feature is fascinating. It's got to be on purpose, but I cannot grok it.

  • not a Strava problem. Wahoo just ignores the coursepoints when not importing from RWGPS.

I hate having to be online all the time. I have my own GPS database with cross-Europe trips and plans. I don't care much for TBT, but I used the CUEs as ascends length, distances to major points on the course...

But now I need a paid RWGPS account for that (no more custom cuesheets in free plan).

So PLEASE Wahoo, add some reasonable offline GPX import with CUE support - then we would be able to write some converter, that would fix/replace incompatible GPX features...

  • To be quite honest... the Wahoo Bolt is gaining territory over Garmin and Strava is not up there delivering TBT navigation while Komoot and RWGPS are.... Very weird roadmap (no pun intended) if you ask me!

If if you want more Strava premium subscribers add this much wanted functionality. Be proactive about it and get it sorted don’t blow us off with a “we might look into it in 2018”

  • Meanwhile, I've had success in adding the cue sheets to the Strava-exported routes at plotaroute.com (free with ads).

  • Another vote for turn by turn here. The lack of them is ok if you're using the map to remind you of a route you've done before, but significantly less helpful when riding somewhere new.

  • just got elemnt and would like this added too, i've tried ride with gps for 5 minutes and much prefer strava - so fixing this or creating a converter would be awesome!

  • Why is this still not planned, wahoo is now a main stream device. Assume Strava is in garmins pocket some how. A commercial reason is the only explanation to who this is still "Not planed" to quote Strava own term.

  • I found a solution!

You need both the Strava and Wahoo Elemnt App.  I use Android.

    1) Create your route using Strava Route Creator.  This is still in Beta, but it's live nonetheless.  Search for it via Google.

    2) Save your route with a name.

    3) Turn on your Wahoo Elemnt Bolt.

    4) Pair it to the Wahoo Elemnt App.

    5) Click "Routes"

    6) Select the Route created from Strava.  This is the crux.  Your Elemnt App and Strava App need to talk to each other.  I don't work in tech support.  If yours do not synch, I can't help.

    7) Click "Select Route"

    8) The Wahoo Elemnt app will push the route to your Elemnt Bolt.

From here, you have to know to navigate your head unit.

    Good luck!

  • I'm another one who struggles to believe Strava really want to force us to pay for RideWithGPS and Komoot etc for sensible commercial GPS navigation features that critical for most cyclists with GPS computers. Seems like Strava 'Premium' doing it's best to drive away paying customers by failing to fix these obvious problems, I'm not going to renew my subscription if I have to but the critical functionality to load and follow a route elsewhere. We always seem to get fobbed off with this lack of interest from Strava, such a waste of an enthusiastic customer base.

  • Nearly a year has gone by and no response from Strava in this thread.

This feature seems so simple to implement, has so much user community request's behind it, and yet......no hope on the horizon ?

Do Strava even actually respond to community requests ?

  • Absolutely! Me Too here!  This is so simple and is keeping me from signing up for paying Strava a nickel.  Alas, RideWithGPS is now getting my subscription until you fix this simple update.

  • Strava, yes you're a social platform and not a navigator. A turn by turn cue can be used on all sorts of devices and the Strava app.
Less staring at my device means more social time. So this would really add to the experience.

  • Got my Wahoo Elemnt last week - created a few routes to ride that I have never rode previously. Looking at the map was nice, bu not knowing how far ahead turns are was a complete PITA and made it tough.

Looking forward to seeing Wahoo and Strava work together to get this completed... Strava - any updates?

  • This post is almost a bit older than a year old, and strava development team is doing nothing to solve this major hitch premium members have been complaining about. Seems its about time I cancel my premium payment until something significant is done about this. I changed to Wahoo Bolt few weeks ago from Garmin510 and I will say its the best dcision I've made in years, due to TBT feature missing out I also had to subscribe to Komoot maps. Farewell to Strava premium for now.

  • It's a disgrace Strava that you refuse to respond, publish or acknowledge the glaring TBT integration omission from your app to devices like the Wahoo Element Bolt and/or Lezyne, forcing many of us to go elsewhere.  I have to wonder what you believe wonderful customer service/response represents to you?  You should be publishing official updates to this forum on at LEAST on a 12 week basis, as it's clear, based upon this thread, that a large no. of your community are begging for this feature.  Please respond with your status of supporting this (or not supporting it), or instead, respond with what YOU feel are your coding priorities then?  Communication?!

Put yourself in our shoes (no pun!) Seriously, what gives?...hello...your mission stmt?

'Strada means Strive - which epitomizes our attitude and ambition'

'Every day, we’re searching for new ways to inspire athletes and make the sports they love even more fun'...

With no TBT for a year for these quality products, or even acknowledging your status of this painful subject, do you truly believe you are honoring your mission stmt?

  • Well said Simon Sotheron, come on Strava get your act together, you’re just throwing away your position and dominant position, not to mention respect from your customers. I won’t be renewing my premium subscription if I have to pay Komoot and Ride with GPS to cover the navigational weaknesses in Strava that you seem blind to!

  • Strava come on get your act into together, you have all the data, but you seem intent on forcing Wahoo users to use third party apps.  Just imagine if all the Wahoo users start to use Ride with my gps etc and we didn't use strava at all??

I can only assume there is some commercial arrangement in place?  if so don't pretend to hide behind a technical issue, that we know is not real.

  • +1 request for strava to add this feature. Also, any update from support staff as to if and when it will be available?

I am using the iPhone app EasyRoute to get fit files to the elemnt app. Strava would be worth the subscription price if it adds the turn-by-turn feature

  • For the price of 3 months Strava premium I now have Komoot TBT maps for the entire world, for life!!! Strava is a great product, but just like Garmin they have such a large market share they don’t listen to their customers :(

I’m not sure why everyone isn’t signing up for Komoot, but waiting for Strava to provide TBT?

Waiting for my Yellow Wahoo Bolt to arrive, my Garmin 62s put me of that brand, freezes half way up a mountain and the user interfaces, Basecamp etc, are appalling IMO.

  • User experience is critical to maintaining happy customers. As far as the Strava iOS app goes - it's Apple quality. If you can get that right then for goodness sake sort the TBT for bike computers. Any mobile running the Strava app can't survive the day doing TBT, so anyone who needs this will use a bike computer. Your biggest consumers are Garmin owners, followed very closely by Wahoo owners.

Strava's route planner is again the best and most intuitive. I always use it for new routes. Komoot and RidewithGPS are clunky and try to be too clever and cause frustration.

I honestly don't care where the fault lies, be it the Wahoo device or the file generated from Strava. You must have strong ties with both companies. If you are the everyman/everywomen community fitness enthusiasts you market yourselves as; FIX THIS

P.S. I work in the software testing industry and strongly support companies who make excellent products. I desperately want to lose the Garmin due to appalling software and hardware faults
