Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'
It is really frustrating when a device destroys your data!!! In my case an 18 hour ride and nothing to show for it.
What do we do .. only solution at the moment is to add a Manual Entry.
Currently there is no image of the route taken when adding a 'Manual Entry'.
If we could import a route (gpx or select one of 'My Routes') it would greatly enhance the entry.
Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

This gets my vote (however one votes). So frustrating when I go out with the 'emergency phone' which isn't smart or the Garmin dies after 6 or 7 hours , but I know exactly where I've ridden and roughly how long it took in total.
This feature is necessary for any person who uses a plain old watch to time their activities instead of a GPS device. Routes are easy enough to map by hand, especially if they short or are reused many times. The only thing missing is connecting a route with a time.
The UI for selecting a route will need some care as there are likely to be too many routes for a simple pick list and the pop-up route search results on MapMyRide are laggy and often insufficient. (Keyword matching on the title of the route, as MMR does, is not very effective. What did I or my device name that route? Routes should also be searchable in more human terms, for example, in terms of length, location, weather, etc.: "Hey, Bro, remember that ride we did in the heat up High Pass? It was like 100 degrees that day and we ran out of water and you bonked so hard at mile 87 and we stopped at that bodega to get slushies. Remember? That was a good ride.")

Thank you, Ellie!
This would be a very desirable feature.
This would be cool because right now to replace that :
- I create the road on strava
- download the gpx
- upload it to runkeeper!
- create the activity on rk adding time
- download rk gpx of the activity
- upload the gpx file as an activity in strava
so yeah please develop this feature :-)
This would be great and must be doable, Runkeeper and Suunto Movescount can do it, Runkeeper does it better and can import all data. Sometimes you have to edit like last night when I forgot switch off and tracked the 4km drive home!
One up!
I approve this message. This could be implemented using the existing route planning section of strava.
YEA!
Yes please!! I found this discussion board while searching how to upload a route map to a manual entry. I definitely assumed that was something that you could do. It would be very helpful. Thanks.
Yes please, this would be great for when I'm out without my phone. I've used other software that does this (I think it was MapMyRun)
sucks when you've been riding for a while and not realize that your phone has conked out on you, until you get home, and find out that the only portion recorded by Strava was the first 10 meters of your supposedly 21k ride.
then you try to create a manual entry since you already have the route saved, but NO, you can't add the route.
so can you PLEASE add the feature Strava?
It is really frustrating after so hard workout your activity is incorrect due to faulty working Strava App(gps signal issue). Next you try to add your activity manually along with route, but not you can not do it. I think, for me it is only solution back to MapMyRide as I have never experienced any issues with gps signal in the same area and as already has been mentioned below MapMyRide has option to add workout to the route. Please fix the issues.
For those times I forget my Garmin or the battery fails this would be really useful
We are getting this feature ready to ship! After some testing it should be ready soon. I'll keep everyone informed with updates.

Hi. I see this feature is almost ready to ship. How will we know when it's ready? Is it best to keep an eye on this thread? Thanks.
i'm just wondering why the fark this shit has taken 3 years to get anywhere near farking completion. Map My Ride has had this feature from the get go.
I am also interested in this feature. Sometimes I'll go for a short run and not bother to take my Garmin or TImex GPS watch. It's a nice feature to be able to log the time/distance for record-keeping with a manual entry. Linking to a route would be an added bonus.
It would also be very helpful if it used the route profile, distance, and weight to generate a total calorie burn estimate.
@Robert McNabb dont bite the hand that feeds you :D
When will this hand feed us the great enhancement of being able to link manual activities to exsiting routes? Doesn't feel like the moon on a stick
For those interested in an interim solution, I simply past the URL for the manual route in the comments section of the workout. It's not very interactive, but neither will the integrated solution be.
Hello Strava. Any news on when this feature will be available? thanks
Hi,
Any news regarding this feature?
Is the Manual Entry mode that is coming going to allow for appending the route. Surely Strava can manage to append routes. How many times have we started an activity only to find that GPS hasn't locked on yet, necessitating going back and back entering the beginning of the route? RunKeeper has has this for YEARS!!!
Is there an ETA for this feature? I have the save situation as the original poster...seems like a universal requirement this basic feature to import a saved route when one add a manual entry....
Strava, this idea was brought up over 3 years ago and a Strava representative confirmed this year that this was going to be developed.
What's going on?!
I missed out on the first part of my 6 hr segment (Herts Easter Hunt) by not hitting my record button properly at the start and didnt realise for about 15 minutes. Is there any way I can add the first segment of missing mileage (about 4 miles) on to the first part of the ride with an estimated speed that equates to my overall speed? I have missed out on the whole segment goal :(
Any update yet.
