Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'

It is really frustrating when a device destroys your data!!! In my case an 18 hour ride and nothing to show for it.

What do we do .. only solution at the moment is to add a Manual Entry.

Currently there is no image of the route taken when adding a 'Manual Entry'.

If we could import a route (gpx or  select one of 'My Routes') it would greatly enhance the entry.

Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

  • Nice work @ole,

Although the split times are not accurate (my bad for totally forgetting my watch) and for some reason the "avg. pace" does not match the overall time, it is still worth having the route attached to the run.

    Cheers!

  • So this issue was raised over 3 years ago and we're still waiting for the feature to be added.  As a software developer that is totally unacceptable.  My normal run takes place mainly through woods so the GPS on my phone doesn't record the route properly in Strava.  I've made a close approximation using the route creation tool in Strava (which has its own bugs) and want to manually upload my runs with a time from my watch and attach the map and compare the runs, very little of this seems possible in Strava.  Anyone have any better suggestions.

  • MyGPSFiles to put a start timestamp and inject a uniform pace into a .gpx file : http://www.mygpsfiles.com/

  • It is so frustrating that your phone app can show the map but not the PC.... and very frustrating how long people have been asking for this issue to be sorted out! Years!!! I might move to map my run/ride!

  • I signed up for Strava hoping to create a route manually for my regular run and upload tcx files from my MilestonePod (no location, only speed, distance, cadence, etc.) so I could overlay my performance onto the map.

I found this thread when searching for clues how to upload to the route I created.  Seems lots of people have been asking for something similar for years but it can't be done.  Some say MapMyRide offers this, so I'll head over there to check it out.  Perhaps Strava is not the application for me.

  • Pleeeeeease let us have the ability to add an activity using an existing route for iOS and web. Oh and while you're at it, allow us to edit an activity (in map mode) to add - not just remove! - segments. I went on an epic backpacking trip and on the second day, forgot to start Strava for a coulple hours and so there's a big gap in my record. *sadface*

  • I would like to see this feature also, I commute to work several times a week so I have a lot of rides which are the same route. Would be nice just to use the saved map I already have on Strava when I don't use my bike computer. I upload all my info from my computer either at home or work so I would really like to see this for PC

  • I have been asking for this feature for years but when I was on a business trip to Newcastle I went on a run down the Tyne without my TomTom.  I decided to enter a manual entry of the run on my Android phone thinking it would be quite tricky.  AMAZEMENT there is a way to use a route you have saved for a manual entry.  I had a route for this particular run so I incorporated it into my Manual entry. It gives you distance and altitude and calculates your speed.   I never worked out how to create a route on my Android but I had done the route years before on my Windows desktop.WHY CANNOT STRAVA incorporate this feature in Windows or Mac.

  • A friend just rode 1200 km and his Garmin ate his files (https://www.strava.com/activities/1286495707). Wish he could use the route map to manually enter his ride!!!!

  • I've always used MapMyRun, and so I'm used to using this simple feature. I decided to try using Strava so I could share my routes with friends already on here, and went to log a muddy, wet trail run (where I definitely did not want to have my phone in my pocket).

To find I can't link the route I've mapped to a run seems crazy - such a simple feature, and something that lets you have much more freedom to run or ride, without worrying about having your phone logging or a charged GPS watch. I think I'll just go back to mapmyrun, this will just frustrate me everytime I run without a something to track it.

  • I want to be able to do this too. I have a couple of standard routes I often use, and sometimes I forget to turn Strava on, or my phone is flat, or whatever, and would LOVE afterwards to be able to add the route not just the kms. I have an iPhone, which (unlike Android) I understand as of Jan 2018 is still on the to-do list....(years after it was first requested). How is it that such an obvious thing is not there in what is otherwise a great app....?

  • Lack of this functionality is indeed frustrating. As a temporary workaround, you can create a manual entry with route attached on Endomondo, export it to .GPX and then load to Strava.

  • Phone battery failed this morning after 1.5km of a 60km ride... most frustrating. Managed to import gpx file to routes but no way to add to activity. Please add this feature.

  • I'm also in need of this feature. It would be very useful both for when you are unable to record a run, for whatever reason, and to add in missing records.

  • I lost GPS signal on my ride and now doesn't show on my heat map.

It would be good to manually upload the route.

  • This is just about the dumbest thing ever about Strava. My iphone lost signal during my ride today and completely lost the activity. Went online to add the activity manually and there is no way to add a route. Added it to "my routes" and exported the .gpx, then tried to upload that file to the manual activity. No go because it doesn't have time info in the file. WTF, get your act together Strava. People have been asking for this simple and easy to implement function since 2014!

  • Just ran into a similar issue as other users here, i.e., my GPS device didn't do its job correctly. This flow was pretty awkward, but it mostly did what I wanted:

    1. Create Route on web application
    2. On Android phone, add manual activity. Set name of activity, start time, and associated with route I created on web.

The user experience for doing this was clunky, requiring web app (where route creation is easiest) and Android phone (sorry for you unlucky people who don't have access to this feature). Finally, since entry was added manually, the route map isn't displayed below the Distance/Pace/Time details in Feed. I think this would be nice. Strava will just have to trust me that I ran where I ran! Also, even though I selected "8am" start time, it says "Today at 5:00 AM"... Nope.

  • I like Strava - log all my cycing on it - and I pay for it too. BUT there is an issue regarding lack of response from Strava. It seems requests for easy and sensible app modifications are ignored:

    1. Adding a manual entry and including a route map. Not a complicated one I'm sure.

    2. Set Elevation Correction to ON or OFF for all uploads. Functionality is there, have to ask - WHY NOT?

    ???

  • Another vote for this feature request. It is extremely frustrating to spend the time creating a route and then not being able to select it to post a work. What is the point of creating a route if you can't use it? A comment on when this will be available would be great. I see the original message string started 3 years ago so...

  • Why, after 4 years since the idea of adding a "Select Route" feature, which seems rather fundamental anyways, is this still not an option?

Also, why can't I edit my map or time or anything if the GPS messes up during the ride? The edit feature and ability to manually enter rides is about as primitive as it gets.

  • Just joined strava today because lots of friends are here. Finding out that this simple tool is missing is really disappointing. People complaining about it for more than four years demonstrates that there's no real intention on improving things around here. Gotta stay with Map My Run instead. Fewer people, but more respect with users.

  •  On Android: add manual activity: Add Route feature is available (assumes you've created the route before on Strava). Very useful.

On Computer: add manual entry: no add route feature available

    ???????

But hey, we did get a bunch of useless other features in the mean time

  • Another vote here.  I went out on a couple of guided bike tours whilst on holiday and had no recording device with me.

Obviously they're not serious training / performance rides but I wanted them in my feed for novelty value - I want friends to see I cycled past a crocodile sanctuary.  If Strava keep spamming me constantly because they want their service to become another Social Network (like Facebook or Twitter), then at least give us the tools to make it work like that.

What I managed to do instead is paste the web link for the saved route in the Description section of the activity.  I might also screenshot the map and add to photos

Absolutely no kudos to the Strava developers whatsoever for ignoring customer feedback.  I don't get how they can add this feature to Android but not to a simple website.
