Heart Rate Announcements/Feedback during recording (mobile)

Dear STRAVA decision maker

In the past I've used a  Polar watch that was set to my Low & High heart rate zones (by setting my age), then during any activity (run/bike ride) I got announcement/warning when I was below/above these values.
As you've already have the distance Audio announcement I'd like to suggest you אם add
1. Announcement of the heart rate value together with the regular pace announcement that available today.
2. Warning announcement when the runner exceed this range ( below/above) as by using an old Polar watch.

Thank you very much for this great App & Best regards
Itay

  • Strava team seriously?

Even after 3 years this thread is alive and still I see implementation?

I recently purchased annual premium subscription "assuming" this feature would be there. Please implement this feature as soon as possible, considering lots of your customer want it.

  • +1 this is a huge disappointment and I wish I had researched this more before forking out my years subscription. I won't be renewing without the ability to effectively train heart rate zones.

All I need is a function to buzz my wrist say 4 times when going into HR Zone 4, 3 for Zone 3 etc. I hate having to keep looking at my watch to check what zone I am currently in.

  • Agree but we have been asking them this for years - they plain and simple don't want to do it!

  • I just opened a ticket about this because they don't reply here - I encourage everyone else who wants this feature to do the same!

  • Reply from Strava:

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. I have assigned your ticket over to the Community Team for review.

We review all feature requests and suggestions and we are grateful for your contribution. It’s our goal to improve Strava based on your feedback whenever possible. We wish we could respond personally to all feedback, but please understand that you may not hear back from us, and we may not decide to use your feedback.

  • @Duncan good idea !!
I have also opened a ticket, requesting other users to do the same.

  • Good luck with the support tickets, but I've long since given up on this ever happening. I just continue to use the Wahoo Fitness app with my (non-Wahoo) bluetooth HRM and it's just a single press within the app to upload to Strava for sharing, I doubt if Strava will ever be as configurable as the Wahoo app anyway. I still pay for premium to get the Suffer scores and the Fitness and Freshness graph, etc. I can also recommend the free Stravistix Chrome extension (which has its own graph) and Veloviewer to give further analysis. Strava is really just a fitness-based social media app.

  • Wow, my friend has cheapo 25$ HRM that beeps when you're out of zone. How hard is implementing this in your app ? This thread is 4 years old, that is hilarious.

  • I set several records on my run this morning only to find out my HR hit 179 when I got home. That alone isn’t good, then I felt spasms in my chest and ended up in the ER for FOUR HOURS diagnosing Premature ventricular contractions. The only explanation I could come up with talking to the dr was the running. Now I’m supposed to back off running for two weeks. This could have been prevented SO EASILY by Strava pulling their fingers out of their ears.
I’m submitting a ticket as soon as I figure out where...

  • I would like to add my interest in the heart rate alert to the Strava app. When planning my training to run in various heart rate runs, I am having to physically look at my watch every time I want to keep my heart rate in the respective zone. I propose an optional heart rate alert which is both audible and physical, for disabled athletes.

I would also like to add that when looking at training plans, the addition of heart rate profiles for those respective activities be included. IE If you are set to perform in the endurance / tempo pace, then these alerts are automatically included.

I suspect there may be legal issues with Strava not doing this as quickly as anticipated by all users, IE implied medical advice, but surely a disclaimer in the Terms and Conditions should suffice to protect Strava?

  • I support the request for audio information about heartrate. It is the one thing RunKeeper has and Strava doesn’t I really miss.

  • Hi everyone!

Thanks for adding all your thoughts, stories, and support for adding an audio feature that will announce your zones. I have no ETA for a feature like this but will let our Product Managers know that this is still popular.

One thing to note: just because something's popular doesn't mean it'll be implemented. Our forums are just one component of our decision-making process. We wish we could implement every single feature you all suggest, we need to be selective and balance our priorities.

I hope you can understand. Cheers.

  • Considering nearly every other tracking software has this, and it has been asked for four years to implement, i will be abandoning Strava as my primary tracker.

  • Hello Jess, thanks for the feedback. Frankly I saw dozen of less important or useless social features added but this one in the last 4 years. The heart rate announcement is very important as it involves also the safety of the athlete.

All your competitor software first Runtastic has this. Maybe you don't care that people which can care less of the social features of Strava will abandon it in favour of the others.

Maybe t is time that all of us abandon Strava and make public this inexplicable lack of interest.

  • I never really started using Strava as my primary tracker because of the lack of this feature, I just still get emailed updates from this thread.  Maybe heart rate zone training has gone out of style, but it's what I need to train the way I like to train.  It makes your whole product a non starter.

  • I ended up buying a garmin watch that exports data to strava. And I think that is precisely their strategy : being only a social network....

  • I found those apps helpful for android users: wahoo fitness, decathlon coach, runkeeper, mapmyride.
    Shame on you, strava developers!

  • Wow! This thread is almost 5 years old and no movement from Strava to add this feature - even making it as part of the Summit pack. Having been a long time Runtastic Pro user I may just head back over there for tracking my runs and then just export the .TCX files.

  • It would be great to get audio or haptic feedback on the Apple Watch. I was also expecting that this feature was part of the summit pack. Please add this.

  • 5 years of people requesting this and barely an acknowledgement 4 1/2 years later.

This is such obvious and basic functionality that having not found the option I assumed it would be on premium so signed up (monthly thankfully).

Having reviewed this thread it looks like the Strava team are not interested in implementing it despite practically all their competitors having it for years. I've little choice but to look elsewhere since HR based training is the bedrock of my running and as this thread suggests, many others.

  • I have paid account and it's not a feature there either. Just started getting back into running again and want to start doing HR based training. It's pretty bad that the feature is not there after 4+ years of requests. Time to pull your finger out Strava.

  • For this functionallity, I use the app "Cardio Training" as a workaround.

I first start Strava, then Cardio Training (startup order is important) and then they can both use the Ant+ heart rate signal from my Garmin chest heart rate monitor.

  • Why is Strava so slow with releasing new features? It isn't like there are working only one or two developers at that company. I can't think of any of the other big players that has this in their app (Nike Run Club, Runkeeper, Runtastic) so maybe they just don't care what people want as long as the competition isn't highjacking people from them. Stupid, keeps me from ever spending money on a subscription.

  • As a Summit member, I was shocked today to find out that Strava does not support heart-rate based training when paired with a heart rate monitor. Very disappointing!
