Garmin Connect Auto-Sync should sync Activity Name & Description

Thank you for developing and releasing the ability to auto-sync from Garmin Connect directly to Strava!  In theory this should eliminate the need for one to use a third-party service like Tapiriik.

How soon will Strava be transferring the Activity Name and Description along with the contents of the activity itself?  Thanks!

  • I was using Syncmetrics or CopyMySports for this service. They also add the name and description from the Garmin Connect activity.
In my opinion this is a must have for a copy service. Is this service planned?

  • It is great that Strava now auto-syncs with my Garmin but please import my Activity Name and Description too, it's tedious having to edit in 2 places.

I also noticed if you do a manual import by files into Strava it also doesn't pull through Activity Titles

  • Thanks so much for the feedback!

Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot provide this service as we are limited by the integration that Garmin has provided (Garmin currently does not send Strava information about Activity title and description, so we cannot receive it). Services like CopyMySports use a different system for transferring data, so additional features may be available for this.

However, we understand completely where you are coming from, and we are currently brainstorming ways to improve the upload flow on Strava for activities from Garmin sync to make it easier to name & customize your activities on Strava.

In the meantime, please make sure you pass along this feedback to Garmin as well.

    Thanks!

  • Adding a huge 'Me Too!' to this! :) Although it's quite a small thing, IMHO, it's super-important as both Strava and Garmin put great focus on the activity title in both the web and native apps UI, so at the moment third-parties like Tapiriik are a better offer as this provides a more complete sync. Even though they're using a different approach, and from engineering terms not as good an approach, as the official one people do want something that 'just works'. I think Strava would definitely have more sway here at getting Garmin to update their API and my personal feeling is that this feature should only really be released outside a beta when it's fully-functioning.

Not to diminish the great work that Strava have done here, it'll be fantastic to sync rides from my 510 to my phone and then direct to Strava! :)

  • Would it be possible in the meantime to change the automatic title for imported activities ? I'd much prefer if the date was in YYYY/MM/dd format instead, or better yet if it were customizable.

  • I know the whole "Garmin Communicator isn't supported" thing didn't start with you guys, but the net effect is a much worse user experience for us with Strava.  I used to come in from a ride, plug in my 305, launch Strava, click Upload, and poof, everything was there.  Now, it is much more complicated.  I have to launch Garmin Express and about 1 out of three times I have to do it more than once before it syncs.  Then after it syncs, I have to wait for Strava to get the file from Garmin.  Then after that, I have to manually edit the ride with the date and location.  I know you know and I know there may be little you can do about this, but ... yeah, it's worse than it used to be.  Keep thinking of ways to make it as good as it was :)

  • 2 Years later and this still hasnt been done? I dont understand it. My "Garmin" names are perfect (eg: "Strength Training" or "Indoor Rowing", etc) then I get into Strava and its "Morning Run"... seriously? Please fix this Strava!

  • Agree with above. Frustrating having to edit in two places.

Used CopyMySports for a while and this worked but then it would pull in 2 activities to Strava (one with title from Copy MySports; one without from the automatic Strava-Garmin link). Please develop...

  • Just adding my frustration as well, also struggling with this duality.

  • Yeah, it’s ridiculous. The management of having to maintain two sets of data. activity names / gear / description. It takes a lot of time editing each activity; nevermind doing it twice!
Starting to become more hassle than it’s worth.
Strava and Garmin really need to have better integration. From a programmers perspective; it’s really not that hard. Come on Strava and Garmin.

  • Jan. 2019: still not working. Really disappointing. I guess I go back to manage my stuff in Garmin Connect directly. It is from IT point of view not clear that other programs can read the activity name and Strava not.

  • Another reason to not subscribe to summit.

  • Unfortunately, Garmin connect cannot sync details like Name and description. The reason is, Garmin has provided very limited integration to Strava and it doesn't share these details with Strava so, Strava can't access the name and descrivition for an activity. If you want to get more details on the same, you can contact Garmin Experts and get instant help. If you want to know more about how to sync your activity data from Garmin to Strava, you should refer to this guide.
