Better Year-to-Date Mileage Totals and Stats in Training Calendar

We've seen a number of separate feature suggestion forums focused around Athlete stats for the current year and previous years, as well as better reporting of these metrics via the Training Calendar and other features, for example:

  • "How do I see my mileage total for last year?"
  • "I'd like to be able to compare my total kms, elevation and time on a graph compared to my previous years on Strava."
  • "I would like to be able to compare each year's stats."
  • "I'd love to see how much climbing I've done per month and year in total."
  • "I want to know how many miles I ran each month, year, etc., and how many miles I cycled, swam, etc.. On the Training Calendar now I only get total miles for ALL activities."
  • "Would love total miles + elevation broken down for runs & rides. Right now the Training Calendar shows combined activities."

Background:

For the current year, your Strava Profile page will display your Year-to-Date stats for your preferred activity type (either cycling or running as set in your Profile Settings). On the Training Log, you can see weekly mileage, time, and elevation totals going back through your history. On the Training Calendar, you can access yearly and monthly mileage and time metrics for all your activities combined, but there is no elevation statistic.

This feature suggestion forum pulls together the main themes from many separate but related forums we've seen. Please use this forum to add your feedback, input and ideas around what is most important to you in terms of year-to-date reporting. 

The leading feedback trends so far are to separate yearly metrics in the Training Calendar by activity type (running and cycling), and to add yearly elevation totals.

March 26th, 2015:

We've just released a very small, but potentially helpful tool on your Profile pages. In the "My Stats" section, you can now select any year under "2015". Selecting another year will display your cumulative distance, time, elevation gain and number of rides for that year.

  • Suggestion - On both Training Calendar and Training Log, include a summary of Training Load / Training Stimulus points in addition to Miles and Hours;  As a kicker for fun, what about "Total Watts Produced" as well?  ;-)

  • Can you PLEASE add an item in the My Stats page for Biggest Elevation. This would be representative of those attempts to Everest, either by foot or bike in a single day. Whether the attempt was successful or not is not as important as simply showing the total elevation gain on a given day. IT would be helpful to show this statistic in both ride and run catagories

  • Hello Elle, with respect, the reporting improvements dont really match peoples expectations on reporting (see this other topic https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/41477184-Ability-to-generate-Training-Reports-from-your-Strava-data?page=1#post_47065918)

    Because of Strava's shortcomings on the reporting front we wonder why not let us take .csv file dumps (for example all data/all activities by year or YTDate) for manipulation in excell etc.  is there some resistance to this for some reason we dont understand? it all seems so simple so it would be great to have some response for why it cant be done. From what i judge from posted comments the community would be happy to pay for the privilege of downloading THEIR OWN DATA.

  • It is pretty obvious that users want to see separate totals for all activity types regardless of what page they are viewing (My profile, Training Calendar, etc). The ability to switch between data for rides and runs already exists on the Training Log, so why not do the same for every other page that displays data? A response from strava staff would be appreciated!

  • Cumulative climb data should be shown at the top of the training calendar adjacent total hours, distance and number of activities, this is a key metric for most bike riders. The data is available so Its a no brainier to add one more field on the on the training tab. This thread was started in Jan!!!!   PLEASE STRAVA GET IT DONE.

    As others have said, key metric should also be displayed at a monthly level as well.

  • 230+ hikes this year, 570+ miles, but zero according to Strava. Lame that other activities don't exist as "training."

  • Yes, the profile page feature to select the year is a big improvement.  As others have said, I'd love to see still see this on the training calendar to compare year over year and YTD. 

    Also, the profile page doesn't show all the activity types (why?!).  I don't run or swim, just road, CX, mountain and hike.  We should be able to see the miles, time, elevation, etc by ride type (road, CX, mountain) and be able to see miles hiked (which don't show up under running).  

    In general, the site needs to do a better job of differentiating between road, CX and MTB.  For example, route builder can be a PIA if you are planning a dirt route or mixte route and it wants to keep sending you back to the pavement.  It works, but is more challenging than just building a road route.

  • It would be cool to see a line graph of cumulative mileage throughout the year superimposed on your previous years so you can compare YTD vs previous years at the same time

  • If you look at the new StravistiX extension for Chrome, it offers a number of things people are asking for. I still wish Strava would add a statistic for Most Elevation (covered in a single ride)

  • @Reuben Cozmyer and everyone in this thread i recommend you look at https://www.facebook.com/VeloViewer/photos/pcb.765446943561403/765444873561610/?type=3&theater which is the facebook page of veloviewer. this fabulous site takes your strava data and does all the things we want of strave but strava doesnt want to do.

    Veloviewer is constantly being improved with new features and Ben the programmer responds to every query from his pro users. There is a free version to try but the 10 pound annual cost of the pro option seems a bargain to me.

  • Hi, I still can' t see my monthly mileage only for running. Under the training page it shows only the sum of running + cycling. How can I see my monthly effort only for running or only for cycling?

  • I am in a one month challenge to perform an ironman in one month. I would love to be able to just see the monthly totals for each individual activity so I don't have to manually calculate them.

  • Training Calendar's usefulness is very limited without filters for anyone that does different types of activities. I don't understand why Strava is so slow to add seemingly basic and very useful features - this isn't rocket science.
