All tied KOMs/QOMs/CRs should count and register on Profiles

Currently, if you equal a KOM, your achievement is only recognised on that segment's leader board. It is not recognised and does not appear in your personal list of KOMs on the 'KOMs/CRs' section of your profile page. This to me seems non-sensical and unfair, as that KOM only appears on the profile page of the person who first set the current KOM. Surely if two or more people have achieved the same time, they should each have it recognised in their personal list of KOMs on their profile page. It is by definition a shared record, and should be recognised by all who share it.

Or, if it is only possible to recognise one person for whatever - as it currently appears to be - it should appear on the profile page of the premium member, as they are financially contributing to the Strava site.

  • Nice idea @Liam, but unfortunately different devices (eg Garmin Edge versus generic smart-phone) have very different locational accrurcy and sampling intervals. Accuracy /versus precision. So where sub-second accuracy may be achievable from a rapid-sampling, higher precision GPS dedicated device, it isn't usually from a phone. You may notice that most short (<25sec) segments, with more than a few hundred riders, are held by phones. Algorithmically, Strava's hands are I think bound. All they can do is accept the data inaccuracy, and treat tied koms as equal, the 10th rider may well have been faster than the first. One of the next 10 tied riders almost certainly was faster than the first, by possibly more than a second (compounded errors at start + finish).

  • It is interesting that when you tie on a KOM and it shows exactly the same speed and time the person is not recognized for it.

Here is a perfect example: https://www.strava.com/activities/1865645835/segments/46810477767

Why when the data shows the same is it that both are not awarded the KOM ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Really, to echo what everyone else has said about it, it's a joke to be recognized on the leaderboard for that segment but no where else. If I didn't remember the two tied KOM efforts I have no one else would know at all and or remember.

It's rather moronic to say oh we have to much to do we really can't go back and fix a rather large mistake we made.

Do the people that work at Strava actually do physical activity? No one in their right mind who runs or rides would have said, "Yes, it's a great idea to not give the person credit in their own KOM list for that segment where they just tied the segment KOM holder."

Really....I find it outrageous that this 1) was the answer that was generated when you decided to exclude these and 2) that you can't seem to find time to fix it.

From where I sit there's an awful lot of effort being spent on things that really don't matter, like algo feed (no one asked for) and matched runs (horrible idea) or best estimates that the user cannot turn off!! (another ridiculous waste of time). So how can it be so hard giving people something they actually want?

Why have the most recent projects, that seem to be nothing but annoyances to users, involve taking away choices from people? All of the things I listed above as wastes of time eliminate choice because you cannot turn any of them off!

  • Has any one else noticed this. I have about 8 or more tied koms and I've recently noticed with the 2 I remember I had and had a look at that on my personal leaderboard I am above the person I am tied with but still the Kom is not on my Kom list. With all tied koms ive always gone directly under the first person to get the Kom. But now I'm first on my page But then switching to the full leaderboard I'm underneath again. Is this Strava possibly sorting out this problem?

  • Agree tied KOMs should show up, not just when you get them but in record as a KOM

  • Hey Folks,

This still is not on our road map at this time. Appreciate you taking the time to leave us comments and upvotes.

  • STRAVA has been more concerned turning this novel fitness platform into a wanna-be social hub. JUST DON'T SUBSCRIBE TO PREMIUM membership if this is how much they care. Three (3) years without a fix and no care to acknowledge this or give any meaningful update as clearly shown above.

REMEMBER TO "UP" VOTE THE ORIGINAL 2015 POST.

I, for one, won't be paying for Premium subscription (or whatever else they call it) and I also can't be bothered keeping track of friends' activities now that they have also ruined that up.

  • Give me my 20+ shared KOMs! I bet 1 developer could fix this issue in 1 day. Please listen to your users (a paying one in this case) and fix this long standing issue.

  • @ Jeff - Appreciate you finally commenting on this after 2 years. To many serious riders a KOM is a MAJOR achievement, and it is getting very hard to achieve one. For this not to be on your road map is really very weak. Premium membership will not be on my roadmap until this fault (and yes it is a fault) is rectified. I mean how difficult can it be?

Perhaps if I am lucky you will get round to reading this in another 2 years

  • @Jeff this is silly. It's an easy fix. Appreciate that certain applications require a definitive KOM from your API, so just use one for that (suggest using the one with power data and if none/all have power data just use the latest one - easy). BUT on a person's profile page just show the damned KOM there - why not?? God I wish I could just use your office for an afternoon and sort this out.

  • How many user have one or more KOM that not appear in their personal list of KOMs worldwide? They are disappointed and WILL NOT upgrade to PREMIUM. Think, think, think STRAVA!!!

  • Adding my support for shared KOMs to appear on user's profile page.

This is now one of two major issues that has to be fixed before I will consider Summit membership.

  • I will not consider a paid service until the following is changed:

    1) tied KOMs show in your personal KOM list

    2) algo feed can be shut off in favor of chronological feed.

    3) an explanation of the math employed to determine how segment winners are chosen. This is a currently unanswered support request from March 31st 2019.

I have ridden a virtual segment several times and Strava says my time in the segment and mph remains the same although the effort expended during the last time through the segment was an average 107 watts higher. Math says the result cannot be true given the changes, yet Strava has now avoided discussing this for 20 days.

IDK what Strava is trying to create here but the longer they avoid user requests and concentrate on what THEY decide should be priorities the more opportunities there will be for competition, which I think would be great, really the only thing they have going for them is segments, and those can be recreated elsewhere.

But I will not pay for a premium service until things change here.

And I too think that the vote count has been messed with here.

  • +1 for this. Segments are so hotly contested, I'd imagine most of them have shared KOM/QOM's by now.
No reason not to have shared KOM/QOM's, and I'd guess a programmer could sort this in hours.

Must be a hidden reason why Strava won't implement.

  • Just another vote for shared KOM's to appear on your personal KOM record page.  The first time it happened I thought there was just a glitch.  Two additional tied KOM's later and I find this thread.  We'd really appreciate the fix or explanation as to why it cannot be addressed.  Thank you very much.

  • It's cool. Segments aren't really that important or the reason Strava took off. Who could have possibly changed a query to include the equal case in 4 years? That would take a lot of developer and testing time away from critical features like being able to post blogs to your feed.

Just teasing Strava. I love you guys but man your priorities are terrible.

  • Adding some support to the cause.

I believe having a KOM with a friend is great but the fact the whoever uploaded his ride first gets the KOM on his profile is a bit annoying.

Strava developers can become heroes with a simple fix ! =)

  • It is not common sense, that a shared KOM on leaderboard is not shown in the profile. Technically it must be easy to adjust and update.

  • In all honesty, their logic for 'not' showing a shared KOM on profiles is probably more complex than just showing it for all who share it.

  • I personally disagree with everyone here.  There should only be one KOM for a segment.  When someone earns a KOM they should remain KOM until they are beaten.  A tie does not equal a defeat.  You might argue that it shouldn't matter when it was obtained, but I disagree going back to my point that there should only be one KOM.  As far as I know things don't tend to work out in the real world when a country (segment) has two kings.

That being said, strava shouldn't show someone who later ties a KOM as KOM anywhere, and this is where the problem truly sits.  Strava needs to decide if there is a such thing as co-KOM or not and reflect that everywhere on the site.

  • Hi Jeremy, appreciate your point, but there's a problem here. Strava show 1-second numeric precision, and use that for the leaderboards.  There's not much else they can do.  But those timings are not even accurate to 1 second.  For (extreme) example, when someone takes a kom using a phone or watch, the GPS sampling frequency (and positional accuracy) used is such that it's pretty much 50-50 that someone a second slower on a high sampling Edge, was actually faster. There's a reason so many sub-20sec koms are held by Android/iPhone users (and why you can no longer create such segments).  So a second rider tying a kom, even on a 3-minute segment, even both on Edge devices, may well be 0.5sec faster, so the only fair thing to do, is acknowledge the lack of accuracy, and share the kom.  If we had 1/100 sec accuracy, I'd agree with you 100%.
