  • Doesn't work well with Fenix 3. It actually captures only the first 100 yards and that's it!

  • Has there ever been a fix for this? The Fenix 2 has been disappointing for me ever since I purchased it. For such a large amount of money it consistently lets me down with issues like this.

  • It's a Strava issue not Fenix issue. Strava seem to just completely ignore it. I don't understand how it's not an easy fix unless they have a thousand other easy fixes of similar importance. In which case Strava must be struggling!

It put me off using Strava when I was training and I cancelled my premium membership. It was literally just used as a social tool to comment on workouts,if I wanted any data on my workouts I went to Garmin or TrainingPeaks where they have no such issues!

  • We are still working on the issue where Swim activities from the Fenix device calculate moving time only from the first lap. For now, the workaround we recommend is  to export the TCX from Garmin Connect before uploading to Strava. This will correct the issue in the meantime.

This issue is due to the way the Garmin Fenix formats the native .fit files stored on the device and uploaded to Strava. Unlike all other Garmin devices, the Fenix has a different format which puts the lap data at the end of the file instead of inline, in chronological order. Thanks for your patience while we work to address this issue.

  • Same issue.

strava is working on that issue since march 2016?

10 months and strava has no fix for that?

(manualle delete the auto-synced swims , convert files an manually import is crap!)

  • Dear Elle,

Could you please let us know when you think that the problem will be fixed. In fact, I would be very interesting in switching to the premium format but I cannot use Strava if the data cannot be imported correctly...

    Thank you in advance,

  • Happening to me also! I was going to go Premium this year but not no MORE. Almost one year and it's still not fixed! Strava does good things but this is a Joke! And there lack of addressing the issue shows that they just don't care or don't have good enough engineers to fix it. The lack of response from them is appalling. I'm going to post this thread to all the Tri clubs I know to ensure people know that lack of support.

  • Agree with Korey here... I reported this issue last year after I became a premium member. Fell on deaf ears - I don't think it's something they are particularly bothered about (clearly from all the feedback). I don't see any reason to renew premium if they are not prepared to fix bugs like this. I'll keep my money and use the free service once my renewal date is through. Not impressed

  • I just dont use Strava for swims now. It's not worth it.

My recommended work around is to login to strava, delete the dumb Swim that always attracts funny comments about pace, then go to Garmin Connect or TrainingPeaks to view your data.

I no longer use strava for anything other than more of a social tool for athletes. Shame really.

  • Another swim, another comment from someone saying 'wow that's fast'. It's really pissing me off. Please at least just disable Fenix 2 swimming FFS or give the option to stop Swims coming across from Garmin Connect.

This is embarrassing that your causing distress to people. I have to remember to delete Swim activities every time now, and if I don't I get a stupid comment about how fast I swam.

    This is pathetic.

  • That is exactly how I used to feel. So frustrating. I wonder if it happens with the newer models too (Fenix 3 and 5).

I'm using the Garmin 920xt now and my Fenix 2 is thrown in a drawer somewhere. The people I know just won't buy it from me because they think it's broken after seeing this stupid swimming issue here and the other problem related to intervals in running, that Strava is aware too.

  • It really annoys me when people say he same joke about a fast swim.

Rafael P. What is the intervals issue? Don't let your friends put you off Fenix 2, this is a strava problem not Fenix. I'd rather ditch Strava than my Fenix 2, I get much more from TrainingPeaks anyway.

  • I upgraded to the Fenix 3 and the problem went away. I think this is why the a_holes don't do anything... they figure people will upgrade and problem will go away. However, I have a memory like an elephant and I will NEVER pay for premium and have started using other tools that are out there. Strava has a good following but premium users will be affected by poor customer service which this is a perfect example of "turning a blind eye"

  • Lee, this thread explains what I meant there:

    https://forums.garmin.com/archive/index.php/t-79726.html

And this is how it compares to the activity on a Garmin 920xt:

Korey, I also have no intention to pay for premium of a service that I know I will not have a good support. I mean, the people who responded to me were always very polite and understanding, but the company never took the time to resolve our issue.

  • Thanks Rafael P. I recognise that problem now from my own runs (ie toilet breaks), but I hardly care now what Strava tells me so never worried. Didn't realise it was just a Fenix 2 issue again though. 👎

  • I have reported this on Twittet numerous times and finally I have been getting friendly and prompt replies from STRAVA.

However, they do not indicate a completion date nor that they are actively working on it. They said they are very aware of the issue. I have requested that they do not close my complaint ticket as the issue has not been resolved and I have asked to speak to management. I want to know if this will be swept under the rug or if this will be addressed. It has been over a year.

Unacceptable and I am a paying member.

  • After dealing with Garmin and their awful customer service, I'm now under the belief it is their fault.
The Fenix 2 is a malfunctioning unreliable expensive product that not only craps itself on recording pool lap data, but in big races.
My last 3 half and full distance Ironmans my Fenix 2 froze every time. I've reported this to Garmin and they genuinely don't give a toss.
As soon as I can afford a new watch, I'll be choosing another company that takes more interest in their customers.

  • Hello Tom,

Even though I understand your frustration regarding the watch (I myself had bad experiences with it too), I honestly think that this is not Garmin's fault. On Garmin's Connect website the info shows as expected (that is, when the watch works, obviously). I really gave up on this and got a 920xt. Also, I mostly do triathlons and I can't figure out why Strava does not recognize this kind of activity yet, but that complaint does not belong here, I guess.

  • Here we are in late June 2017 & still no fix for this problem, one would think that a company like Strava with no doubt some pretty serious resources at their disposal would be able to patch this one issue....

Loading the TCX file manually kinda works however the elapsed time (rather than moving time) is then recorded thus scewing the time/100m the other way (too long)...

Come on Strava time to get this monkey off your back & put a smile on some faces :)

  • Strava,

I have to agree with the above comment.  Your last communication to me was that you (Strava) was going to focus on this issue this quarter.  Maybe a year too late but you have left me with the expectation that this will finally get resolved and we (your customers) can finally get proper information related to our swim performance.

This is getting a little old, please come through for us Strava.

  • I really don't think Strava gives one hoot about this issue let alone two.... hence premium membership not renewed in May.
