Add Photos from the Strava Website

Some of us have a windows phone, and while my first preference would be for an officially supported windows phone app with the full feature set, I doubt that is coming any time soon.  As such, it would be nice if we could add pictures from our own files from the web site rather than having to deal with Instagram.  I don't always upload Instagram photos in the time window allotted.  Truth be told, the only reason I have an Instagram account is so I can have my ride pictures show up in strava.  I would probably just close my Instagram account if you added manual file upload for ride pictures to the web site.

Photo uploading from the website is out to all. Thank you for all your patience and enjoy.

  • I am a paying customer.

There are numerous requests out there for the ability to add a photo from something other than Instagram, iOS or Android phones.  It is seriously time to add this feature.  The behavior here has a subtle feel of constantly shunting requests for this feature to the underside of the "To Do Pile" of things...  many, many, many requests for this feature buried in the forum topics.

We are just asking for an ability to add pictures to an activity, directly through the web interface, via a standard browser.

Please, rather than telling me to "request this in the forums and share the discussions with fellow members who feel the same way", please pass it on to Quality Control, Coders, Customer Service or something other than burying it in the forums.  When you simply tell subscribers to discuss it in the forums and then nothing happens, it leaves subscribers with the impression that you are sweeping the issue under the rug, hoping it will go away.

The issue will go away when you provide users the common-sense capability to do this.

    Thank you!

  • Me too, I am a paying customer and already made a corresponding request without any reply so far what is quite disappointing.

I agree with Dave Purdy and wish that this feature will be added to the web interface soon!

    kind regards

  • Thanks Danny,

We understand some of our members don't have the ability to capture and upload photos from a supported mobile device, or would prefer to upload photos from the Strava website. However, being a small company, we have other projects we've prioritized at this time and we simply can't fulfill all the feature requests in our community.

Please continue to leave your feedback regarding this request below.

  • +1 for being able to upload photos from the web site.

  • I have come to this thread to re-state my support for adding/uploading photos to a ride via the Strava website.

  • Seriously how hard can it be to allow photo upload from the website, you've managed to do it for ios and android ?

  • Just adding my vote here for this feature since we're getting pushed off the other thread with 320 comments...

  • Up voted. This feature would make uploading photos from other sources (e.g. real from digital camera, or downloaded from Facebook) much easier.

  • +1 for being able to upload photos from the web site.

  • Same here, it is extremely frustrating to not be able to add from the desktop.  You do support adding club banner photos, but not photos for activities.  This has been an issue on here for over two years at least.  It's time to stop the excuse of having other priorities and make this a priority.

  • Upvoted.

Sadly already cancelled my premium due to failure to take action on simple customer requests.

  • C'mon Strava people - let's work on the ability to upload photos from a PC / Mac.....

  • Respectfully, not sarcastically... my premium membership has now lapsed.  Amazingly, I see that the coders were able to get photo upload to work on this page... testing that...

Maybe they could have the same coder work on the regular ride pages where we enter our sessions?

  • +1 from a premium member...

  • +1

I record my rides with my Garmin, not with my phone.

  • They should have added this by now, but I found a workaround. It's possible to use Bluestacks (an android emulator) to run the Strava app for Android. After installing Bluestacks and downloading Strava from the Google Play Store:

    1. Put whatever pictures you need into the Bluestacks shared folder - which defaults (on Windows) to C:\ProgramData\Bluestacks\UserData\SharedFolder. (I'm pretty sure you can also access your Pictures and Documents folders by default. Those might be easier to get to because the shared folder may be hidden.)
    2. Open Strava (within Bluestacks)
    3. From an activity menu, edit the activity and click add a photo.
    4. From the photo selection menu, click the settings button in the top right and check 'Display advanced devices'.
    5. Go back, select the SD card that's now available, click windows, then go to BstSharedFolder. There are your pictures.

It's a long, annoying process that we shouldn't have to do, but it works.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: Seems like lists don't work here either. Come on Strava...

  • It would be great to have this feature, please add it soon.

  • Found this thread by searching for adding a photo from a computer, which obviously is not available. Oh well.. hardly a big deal.  I will move the photo to my phone or tablet and do it from there.

For the folks whining about this... as stated above, I would much rather have the folks at Strava keep their limited resources focussed on more interesting projects than uploading pics from a computer. Further, to cancel a premium membership for a fantastic app because of this minor inconvenience is lame.

I record my rides with a garmin also...not a phone.  If I take a photo during a ride, the Strava app still recognizes those photos as taken during the activity so again... not an issue.  Pics get uploaded from my phone app.

Sure it would be nice, and maybe it will happen in the future, but hardly a big deal.

  • Kari, if you don't have the Strava app, it is quite a big deal! It would seem the only way to add a photo to an activity is to install the Bluestacks Android emulator. I tried that but it causes my PC to crash. So currently I have no way of adding a photo to an activity.

  • Not to be 'that guy', but if the APIs exist to upload photos via mobile then why can't a file upload be offered in the web interface? I appreciate that there is more to the issue than dropping an <input type="file"> in the page but a limited uploader should be offered to start with.

  • Chris. I suppose if you don't have a phone or a tablet to install the Strava app, I can see that it is an issue. I would guess that most folks that have the tech of a garmin probably also have a phone so it probably creates a significant problem for a fairly small number of folks.  Obviously it's frustrating for folks in that situation, but I do think that the folks at Strava try to deliver a quality product.

  • As far as I can tell, photo uploads are absent from the public API. If they were there, I'd do this myself.

  • ++1 I record my ride on a Garmin and I take photos on my ride with a Drift camera, my phone stays firmly on my pocket. It's a pain in the butt to have to transfer photos from my Drift camera to a PC and then from a PC back to the phone so I can add a photo to my ride. I work in software development and I know what it's like trying to prioritise a backlog with limited resources so I do sympathise, but given most of the functionality is already there on the mobile app I am struggling to understand why it's taking so long t implement a web image upload facility. Hey ho, maybe you're about to deliver some other super awesome feature instead....

  • +1 of the premium user

  • Come on ... it's time we can add nice pictures to our rides recorded with a Garmin and upload via pc/iMac ...

  • "However, being a small company, we have other projects we've prioritized at this time and we simply can't fulfill all the feature requests in our community."

This is so frustrating, especially when on vacation where the only option -Instagram- does not work due to the lack of Internet-availability.

Even at home, I sometimes forget to upload pictures into Instagram - and then: that's it: No picture.

What projects can be more important than having a happy community which is able to upload pictures even after 15 minutes after an activity???
