Power Meter Support for Running

Stava needs to include power meter  metric for runners.  Many of us use Stryd, or similar devices.  Power is recognized by many as a key component in training.   We've been asking for this for years...  please please add this !!

  • It seems a real shame that Strava won't integrarte Styrd run power. How hard can it be?

I was looking at Strava (for the social aspect) and Elevate extension for Chrome (for fitness, form, fatigue) as a potential replacement for Training Peaks. I really don't use enough of the TP functionality to justify the cost; however, running with power is a must for me now, so I'm going to stick with TP and dump Strava.

  • I have a Stryd chest strap & use the strava app to record my runs (Android) . I get power in my runs but it is related to cycling FTP so the zones are way off.
I did a test today and recorded in the stryd app & strava simultaneously both on the phone. Very similar data from both.
When I got home I looked for sensors to pair a new cycle power meter and the stryd showed up as a stride sensor for the 1st time.

  • Got a Stryd Wind as well and from the very first run: it's awesome!
However Strava feels pretty useless for running training now.

On the social aspect, the best I've found is to add a link to the Stryd PowerCenter activity in Strava's description
Also, copying manually the power AVG an Max

    It's not great.

Strava as support for Cycling power already: why not start with providing the same visualisations - however keeping data, FTP calculations separate.
That could be a first step for something useful before full blown support in all training tracking capabilities.

  • I've been using Stryd for almost two running seasons now. Just cancelled my Strava subscription as I still don't see power data in my runs. Others have power from Polar watches or other devices. Strava must have some kind of conflict with data from Stryd, maybe some privacy problem of some sort? Or they are developing their own algorithm for getting running power? Idk. But for now, paused subscription for next year and I'll just use TP.

  • Also still missing integration of Stryd Power data in Strava, and that among some other points, was the reason for me too to cancel my Premium subscription. As for Cycling Data, Strava as a premium was very promising, but since I train for triathlons, I also need my running data show up in a same graph. Strava seems to block by intentionn the Stryd data, and that's not the correct way...

Now, searching for an alternative, but really not knowing what exactly. I have Golden Cheetah installed, but this seems a little bit complicated in usage. Any other real good suggestions that seemlessly integrate running and cycling in an overview, and allowing to define different CP rsp FTP for running and cycling?

  • Tom Peiffer, Have you looked at TrainingPeaks, they do running power, and you can set FTP separately from cycling.

  • Hi Bob,

many thanks for your suggestion. I ordered TrainingPeaks Premium now, and it really looks promising. You just can't compare TP with Strava, it has a completely different usage... Strava is like Facebook, TP gives you deep analyses into your training and plans. But that was exactly what I was seeking for.

  • Hi Tom,

You're right about the FB analogy, although I still maintain a Strava Premium account, as I enjoy the age-group comparison stuff. I am definitely considering cancelling when my annual subscription expires in the spring. If you really want to geek out on the numbers, then you could also consider WKO software as a companion to TP Premium. They offer a 2-week free trial, but before opting for that, I would read the latest edition (3rd) of Training and Racing with a Power Meter, by Allen & Coggan (the original creators of Training Peaks & WKO, although they are no longer tied to either, at least not Hunter Allen). But having said that, TP Premium alone has come a long way in closing in on the functionality of WKO. Happy Trails, I mean training.

  • Please display running power for activities recorded using Connect IQ app/data field! There have been a lot of improvements lately to Strava, and I hope this feature request is one that is implemented soon...
