How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • Auto-tag your commute, it knows the route as you have already tagged it five or more times! Don't do this, as it is too time consuming to tag each one.

  • Add an option to default the privacy of certain activities, e.g. whenever a walk is added, it is automatically set to private where anything else goes by the profile default.

  • I would like to request Strava to add a new Sport/Activity: Football (aka Soccer). It seems to be very useful/popular to many users.
    Thanks!

  • I like to ride with friends and I want a way to let my Strava friends know that I am "Planning to ride at 2:00 @ Mt. Falcon".  This way I won't have to spam everyone with "Hey want to ride today?" texts.   Friends could respond with a click to indicate they want to join.  People could allow notifications or access this information via the app.

Status should expire after 12 hours or so.

This would make riding with friends much easier!

  • Hi - I would like Strava to calculate a number that indicates how "hard" a route (or activity) is relative to other routes - i.e. a number that is based on the characteristics of the route independent of the characteristics of the rider. This would allow me (and others) to compare routes on a semi-objective basis. I think this number could be similar to the "climb category" that Strava already calculates, but extended to cover the route in its entirety. For example, Strava could divide the route into (say) 10 metre segments, calculate the slope of each segment, apply a weight to those segment slopes (to allow for the fact that the energy expended in climbing a slope increases faster than the increase in the slope) and sum these "weighted slopes" - perhaps while applying a zero weight to all downhills. I realise that this would not be a perfect "index of difficulty". For example: (a) a heavier person expends more energy going up a hill; and (b) if one wants to do more than roll down a hill then one must expend energy to do so. Nevertheless, I feel that such an index of difficulty would add great value for users when deciding (or comparing) between rides. Please excuse me if such a number already exists. Kind regards, Mark

  • Hello,

I am using Strava live segment in my Garmin Edge 130 and i would like to recommend to add the option to see the Heart Rate during a Segment. This is more for a safe issue.

    Thanks and Rgds.

  • I use an app called HealthFit on my iPhone and it has an explorer score based on the number of tiles (on a map) you cross during a certain period or training session. It struck me this morning that it would be quite cool if Strava added it as another kind of award, of just tracking an explorer score (or both). The Local Legend award Strava added during the past year is proving to be quite popular and my idea would be another nice addition. Segments are for the fast ones, local legend for the consistent ones, and now one for the explorers among us.

  • How about the ability to search for rides/runs based on WHO you rode/ran with?

  • As a subscriber who has many times requested (along with many others) the ability to filter what we see in the feed to exclude challenge entries or Zwift rides… it is particularly galling to see that your programmers have been hard at work changing the look of the notification page (on mobile app) which I don’t believe ANY one actually asked for!!! This is just another reason not to renew my subscription when it runs out

  • Wondering if Strava has considered including dragon boating in the sports available? There are over 2,000,000 dragon boaters in the world and using other boating options is not appropriate.

    Thanks

  • It would be really helpful to be able to subdivide starred segments into subfolders just as you can do with bookmarks on an Internet browser. I star segments for a variety of reasons (e.g local climbs, climbs that are the right length for specific intervals, climbs that were highlights from riders I've been on on holiday) and it would really useful to be able to organise them accordingly. It would also be good to be able to search starred segments for ones that fall into specific ranges (e.g ones where my fastest time is 4-5 minutes, segments where i have averaged over 300w for over 15 minutes etc)

  • I am disappointed that I get less and less features in Strava. I joined 2 years ago and a lot of features are that were I was interested in are removed.  And I will not share any additional data like heartrate unless I get something back for it. I pay with info and would like to be paid back for it.

  • It would be helpful if Strava would upload the calibrated treadmill distance from a Garmin watch.

In summer I have to train on a treadmill due to the heat outside. I have a recent edition Garmin watch however the treadmill distance it measures is often off, sometime only by a little but many times it is quite far off. Before finalizing the run, I am able to use the Calibrate and Save feature where you can enter the treadmill distance you ran. This is the distance that uploads to Garmin and Training Peaks. Strava however takes the original watch distance.

For someone who tracks the distance run on her shoes, if the distance in Strava is off, my tracking is off. There is no way to amend the distance in Strava. As a result I have to delete the run from Strava and enter it manually. This work around at least sees a closer distance however it wipes out all the activity analytics - which I have now paid extra for.

I don't understand why Strava can't just upload the calibrated distance......

  • I hate the new "top 10" leader board on segments within the ride overview. I'm always looking to see who is near me and now I have to a ton of clicking and scrolling to find my entry in the leader board/. Go back to the old style showing top few times then 2-3 on either side of me. Terrible change

  • For seasonal trails to understand their conditions, it would be very useful to see who, or how many has recently completed a segment. Right now I can see who has been there "today", but (a) that does not help in the morning for planning (as no-one has gone yet) and (b) it does not help during weekdays, when weekends has all the activity. The data is clearly there, just not accessible beyond "today" view. Even better, if I could find those segment completions that have posted pictures of their rides. Heatmap for just the previous week (or other very recent time period) could alternatively be helpful.

  • I would like Strava to be a bit smarter when handling my activities. Half of my activities are on the bike from house to work and in the afternoon, back home again. Start and finish are allways the same as is the main pattern of these, just the course differences but even that has four, five main routes that I choose from as I like. These could easily be automatically set as "commute" instead of having to do this for each ride by hand. Every sunday morning there is a ATB-training with a group. Strava again, sees start and finish, sees that I am not riding alone, it could easily automagically (rule based) tag this as "ATB-training ATB-group XYZ". Add some intelligence and the option to have activities automatically tagged. As long as it offers me the option to correct things. Make it a premium function if you please.

    regards Edmond

  • Turning off certain activity types (Similar to Simon P) to IMPROVE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Many of my friends and I would like to be able to TURN OFF the activities that we are not interested in seeing (or SELECT THOSE THAT WE WANT TO SEE), BUT we still want to follow and support our friends is cycling adventures!

For example, with smart watches becoming popular, many people are now recording walks in the park, yoga, gym etc - which may be automatic or just opportunitistic, or they are the type of person to want to record 'everything'. These activities are of no interest to me, like my zwift activities are probably of no interest to others. I'd therefore like to be able to select the sports that I am interested in, like cycling, running, swimming and hiking. This would make my customer experience more pleasing.

I am a subscriber to Strava, and have been for a long time, but am extremely frustrated by the seemingly endless number of these activities which are in my feed.

  • I'm sure this has been suggested before but it would be awesome if you could edit distance for indoor runs (treadmill).  It's seriously annoying when your device recorded distance (in this case Apple Watch) has such a discrepancy to the actual distance run (as reported by the treadmill).  At the moment my Apple Watch is underreporting distance by about 10% (as I guess I have a different stride length on the treadmill than outside).  I understand why Strava don't want people editing distance for outdoor runs but I see no issue with allowing it for indoor runs.  Perhaps allow a maximum change of 10-15%?

    Thanks!

  • Agree with Tailwind Tanya, but with slight modification; I want to be able to customize my news feed, with sort and filter options, inside of the news feed (don't want to have to go into settings each time to make a change).

    Types of criteria I want:
    1) People: I want to be able to filter to see only my "favorites" or close friends on Strava (so filter based on favorites vs all following)

    2) Time vs Relevant: I want to be able to switch between chronological and most relevant activities (which I assume uses some algorithm of how often I like a given person's posts and how many kudos a particular post has gotten, and how recent is it, and maybe how far it is from my location)... Sometimes I just want to see what happened today. Other times I want to see the most impressive accomplishments of friends recently.

    3) Sport type: I hope someone at Strava is reading this forum because I've seen echoes of this same request all through the forum. Please let us filter out certain sport types from our feed. If this doesn't get addressed, the news feed will run the risk of being too cluttered with irrelevant things and people will stop using it. This is how social media platforms begin to die. They do something well, gain a following/user base, and then to expand at the expense of their existing followers by adding advertisements, new unwanted content, etc. You can add the new stuff, but if you want to keep the old users, you have to make it possible for them to continue to get from the platform what they started coming to it for. For a lot of us, it's about certain activity types, from certain people.

  • Provide filter options for Activity Feed

I have more than 100 contacts now and my Activity Feed gets very busy. I'd like to see only certain types of activity here so that I don't miss any great efforts from my friends.

For example - only show activities:
    Sport = Run
    Type of Run = Any
    Distance = 4km+

It would be great if this could be added as a settings option against the account and then applied to the Activity Feed view for both the web application and the mobile app.

Love Strava - keep up the good work!

  • Hello everybody. I would find very useful if STRAVA could calculate the VAM (velocità ascensionale media = average rate of ascent (VAM is the abbreviation for the Italian term velocità ascensionale media, translated in English to mean "average ascent speed" or "mean ascent velocity", but usually referred to as VAM. It is also referred to by the English backronym "Vertical Ascent in Meters") for each or all cycling activities and if yes where the data is. The formula should be:
    - VAM = (metres ascended × 60) / minutes it took to ascend

    Thanks
    Sandro

  • Dear Strava developer

It would be great to have some kind of indication of the route direction on any Strava platform, be that web or mobile app. Currently, it's unable to see from a route what the direction of travel is.

    Best regards

  • I think a strava ios widget on the lock screen displaying activity of the current event being recorded would be great because then I could this data without any effort or risk. Currently only weekly stats are displayed. From a safety point too this is very convenient as without having to take my hands of the bike I can see current statistics of the activity. This feature was there on the endomondo and was super convenient.

  • Might we not see the most recent posts first?

Also, there a number of suggestions that are made repeatedly - eg. filtering activity types seen for subscribers. That never even get a response. Could we not get updates on these suggestions?

  • I want to be able to track how much commute distance was done by a group in the last x (day, week, month, year). Ideally as a website widget. It will allow me to show how much human powered travel was done by the group and therefore saved using vehicles for the same distance. The reason that is important is because of environment and sustainability and encouraging people not to use a vehicle when they don't have to.

  • I have an idea on how to improve the auto pause feature. When cycling with auto pause enabled it takes about 10 seconds for it to detect when you stop and detects immediately when you start moving. I have tested that with auto pause enabled and you manually stop your activity, it will not automatically restart when the activity resumes. Is there a way to implement auto restart after you manually pause an activity?

  • I'd love the fitness and freshness graph to display the "all time" option better. It currently displays from January 2004, regardless of the fact that my personal first activity was in 2015, so I have all of my activities squashed together on the right 1/3rd of the graph and loads of empty space to the left. Would be a really easy way to find how fit I was for different races etc, but as it is it's almost useless.
