Elevation is different for the same Activity?

I ride the same ride as my husband and he always gets a higher gain than I do, not just a few feet, but hundreds, it is the norm for his garmin to give him 500 more ft. He tells me its no big deal, but honestly it is to me, I hate climbing and it is hard work for me so I would like to get all my credit for every foot more I as send! ;)  I would like to swap gamins with him!

  • I have just ridden a route I last used about 6 weeks ago, then it said the elevation was 1149m, today, only 781m, and that was after asking Strava to recalculate the elevation.

    It is exactly the same route, as it's one I have created on Strava and the loaded on my Garmin. Why the BIG difference?

  • Garmin has barometric altimeter inside. Barometric altimeter is less sensitive than GPS. I think Strava must left to using data of barometric altimeter. Only GPS data is enough for everything.

    Please just see and compare two activities;

    strava.com/activities/526094834 - Android - 128.8 Km - 3:38:40 - 3113 m.
    strava.com/activities/529557033 - Garmin - 128.9 Km - 3:38:20 - 1346 m.
