  • Filter out rides less than X miles
  • Filter out Virtual Rides/Zwift
  • Sort by number of Kudos, ascending
  • Sort by number of Comments
  • Filter for Grouped activities
  • Filter by Activity Type
  • Sort by notable achievements (KOMs/QOMs/CRs/PRs)

  • Hi Rob. For preventing your own commutes being visible to others, (as opposed to other people's commutes being visible to you) I think you have the option to make  your actiities private on an individual basis. From memory, you may have to do this on your computr rather than mobile app. I'm not near my pc to double check just now, but it's worth a look

  • @Rob Ratcliff (and others): The most important option in the Strava app to prevent annoying others is to set the default visibility to "private". You can then cherry-pick and make public only the rides that are worth it: Strava App > Settings > Privacy Controls > Private by Default.

  • I cancelled my premium membership which dates back to soon after I signed up in 2011 due to having no official option to filter my feed despite many, many folks actually wanting it. If they ever got around to re-adding it, I'd consider going back.

  • I wouldn't hold your breath for Strava to provide filtering - best to just do it on your end. I use uBlock Origin and add rules to get rid of the suggested athletes, zwift rides, etc.

Example filter (uses uBo ":has()", but looks like adblock plus has similar capabilities) to get rid of virtual activities - zwift in this case which has a icon-virtualride for the activity:

      strava.com##div.activity:has(span[class*="virtual"])

Hides any "activity" div elements that contain a span element with a class including the word "virtual" (I went generic in case there was virtualrun or other virtual activities). The same process could probably be used for commutes and other types of filtering but I haven't had one in my feed in ages to see how those are tagged.

  • Mojo, that's amazing... thank you! Unfortunately that solution is beyond the capabilities of most folks, but it's a pretty cool option to have.

  • Have got fed up with Strava not listening to us so have installed this Mozilla Firefox add-on:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/strava-helper/

It does much of what's been discussed here, and there is a similar extension for Chrome users that was reviewed favourably by Cycling Weekly:

    http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/latest-news/want-strava-feed-back-chronological-order-heres-356537

Not had a chance to try that one as I only use Firefox, but highly impressed by 'Strava Helper', which although not mentioned specifically does also seem to be displaying all recent rides on my activity feed in chronological order!

  • The Firefox helper doesn't really seem to do much, but make it easy to give everybody a Kudo with one click.  The Chrome helper on the other hand has some filters and allows me to sort my feed chronologically.  That is the one feature I really have been trying to find most.  Now I don't have to scroll through yesterdays rides to see what happened today.  That combined with the extra data provided by Stravistix make a great improvement to Strava.  Thank you!

  • Hard to believe this thread is 6 years old now and still no filtering for activity feed. What do the developers at Strava actually do during their working hours, besides add more useless social media "features"

  • Can't believe I still have to see Zwift and turbo sessions in the feed.

  • Well I see garbage like short runs around the block and ski-runs and push-ups, although my only interest is in bicycle tours > 50 km.

  • As one of the original posters of this subject I have decided to not renew my premium STRAVA membership.  Not only has filtering not been implemented but there is more junk and doodads on STAVA than ever before. I don't want to spend hours going through all this stuff.  I just want to ride my bike and give JUDOS to road riders. I will not upgrade to Premium until Strava implement a way to filter STRAVA posts. I suggest other do the same.

  • The more time you spend hunting for the activities you want to see, the higher the "user engagement" numbers Strava can use with the venture capitalists. This is the sad truth of social networking today (replace "venture capitalists" with "advertisers" for publicly traded companies).

  • I name all my commutes Spam maybe if more people did this, Strava may act.

  • @Brundle Fly - awesome, now I just need everyone to name their Zwift rides "fake" and we'll be onto something.

  • Why? Just make them private if no one is interested.

  • Do private activities count towards distance/elevation stats though?

I've recently started commuting and while I'd like to keep track of the milage I don't want to be "what guy" who spams everyones feed with two short rides every day. Surely it can't be that hard for Strava to make activities marked as "commute" to not show up on other peoples feed?

  • Yes. But not challenges or segments.

I have private as the default. I only make public activities that might be of interest to my connections or when I want to show off :-) My boring shopping rides, commutes and run training are kept private. Wish everyone would take this approach.

  • The recipient should have choices on what they see or don't see.  Marking things private means they are not getting to choose.  Also, if you mark something private, it doesn't count towards your monthy goals?  What??

I've followed this thread for years.  They are never going to do this.  They make their money mostly through advertising.  They want more things visible not less.  As one gentleman posted earlier, we are not the customers, we are the product.  Don't forget that.

I'm on the verge of canceling my premium account.  It is the only "vote" we have at this point.

  • John, I did cancel My premium membership a couple of months ago. I will Not upgrade until I can filter out what I don’t want to see. I’m not interested in running, swimming, or trainer cycling. I only Want to see Cycling, period.

  • Psh, @John Long, I  was premium since I signed up in 2011. Told Strava I was going to cancel due to inaction on that, and did. Their response was more or less:

  • It would be great to be able to filter out Zwift rides, as I am really only interested in seeing the real, physical activities

  • Like the other folks who left comments before - I just got tired with scrolling down activities I'm not interested in. I presume adding filters is technically rather a simple task and would be million times more welcomed than most of the nonsense upgrades (or "redesigns") that nobody cares about. But for some reasons you - people at STRAVA, who call it a Community - totally don't care what this Community says. I am aware it ain't gonna be a big loss for you, but in such a case I'm not going to renew my premium. I felt like paying for the app I use to enable its development, but unfortunately I don't see any.......

Still hope you'll change your approach!

  • Here's a novel idea for how to sort the feed.

Apparently one day follows the next day and days last week come before days this week.  Interestingly if you did a run in the morning there is some mechanism which means that this should come before your nighttime run.  I don't know, I've heard that this "thing" is called "time", but it sounds like mumbo-jumbo to me...

...anyway, my awesome idea for sorting the feed is that it should be arranged by the zodiac sign of the poster, this would be much more useful that the current random order....

  • I would like the ability to filter out "any" activity. Once I see most, I'd like to remove them. Otherwise, they just clutter up my personal activities!! This should be a basic function of Strava. At least, provide the ability to hide an activity that we no longer want to see!!  Only option is to view "Your activities" only.
