Include other Activity Types in Profile Stats besides Cycling/Running

I went for a back country ski. I would like to have it show up as part or my exercise and workout  schedule because its motivating to see it there and I can compare winter and summer routines. My heart rate was at a training rate - up to 170 bpm - and we went as hard as we might on a ride or a run. It 'doesn't count' toward my fitness motivational charts as is. This is a request to allow us to determine if we want a workout to count toward our training. As it is only rides and runs count. I think it would be as easy as a box to check - self determination of 'workout' status. I would then include SUP, backcountry ski trips, hikes and other intense physical activities.

  • Good luck with that. Take a look at the timeline.

  • I also want my SUP training to show up in my activity statistics!

And I also would like to see my best times on different distances for other activities than running and cycling.

Not having this makes me wanna check other apps.

    Thank you!

  • I choose to use Strava above any other activity logging app because Strava has the largest established online activity logging community.  That scale is infinitely benficial to me and the rest of Strava's vast user base.

Please do not limit Strava's activity logging and analysis functionality focus to only cycling and running.  With that large user base Strava's potential can be fully realized by including ALL acitivities in it's analysis functionality.  Limiting Strava to only running and cycling is like Google limting it's service to only email and it's search engine.

Of course I realize Google's current resource avalaibility is much larger than Strava's but I do remember a time not so long ago when Google wasn't the only choice of similar search engines or email.  To reach their full potential Google realized it's need to not limit itself and the services it offered at that time.  Where is Hotmail or AltaVista now?

Thank you to Strava for all you do.  Thank you to my fellow Strava user base for contributing.  Go out after it, be active!

  • I inline speed skate. I am not a good runner cause my hips hurt like heck, and I am new to biking, however I compete in inline skating and even medal. Some of my fastest skating times are faster than most people can bike and yet I look like a loser on my best recorded efforts because they do not count my skating. There has got to be a way in the coding to simply allow sports to be added to a profile without terrible difficulty. Garmin connect has a similar issue which is why I mostly switched over - not realizing that Strava has the same weakness. Also one should be able to set the default activity when Strava pulls in the Garmin activities so I don't have to go in and edit from a run every time or else have the activity get flagged cause I "ran" too fast =) I think I am going to start looking to see if there are any better solutions out there. I don't want to upgrade to premium if I can only do bike and run.

  • I'd like to vote for other activites. I often go for a walk at lunch time but need to log it as a run. apparently my 20 minute walk burns nearly twice as many calories than a 20 minute of road ride.

  • Another vote from me. I complete multiple outdoor activities - cycling, kayaking & hiking; it would be great if all activity options could be displayed on the athlete profile. This would give a true picture of actual physical exercise completed and distances traveled.

  • * Surfski as an activity please (kayaking is close and it's what I use at the present)

    * Other activities than cycling and running in stats please

  • I too would like to see other activities added to the "profile" and viewed alongside cycling.  Many cyclists enjoy other cross-training activities or have other interests and would like to track their training for everything, coded in a similar manner as  "run" but for other sports.

  • Especially important now that ski season, cross country and downhill, are fast approaching and many cyclists are transitioning to the sports.

  • I bikejor and dog scooter and would lke to see these sports represented.

I don't know why it's so difficult for Strava just to add all these other sports in...it must be the easiest programming request ever!

  • There are now lots of different sports options, but they don't have calorie calcs and they don't show in training log.  Can this be sorted for the winter? I too will soon be putting the bike away and getting the X-country skis out! Thanks in advance!

  • I completely agree.  I created a club just for hiking on strava "Strava hiking" and already people are asking how they can record hiking separately.  There are tons of hikers in the world, who rely on GPS and often hike as groups and like to keep track of their hikes for exercise and to share photos.  Other websites exist, but Strava provides a great community for this to be a more international experience.

As others said, cyclists and runner and swimmers do more than those activities alone and they are equally important to training and health.  Please do not put this on a backburner.  The use of strava for more options will expand its user base tremendously, not limit it!

  • I am getting fit by walking and not having stats is a big deal. Your customers have gone way beyond super-fit athletes. I would go for the pro version if the app offered this.

  • Could you please just add a "Other Activities" option to the stats page? It's very annoying that anyone doing activities other than cycling or running shows no distance or activities at all in the stats or comparisson.

  • +1 for me! I need to do the maths or connect to my garmin account to know how many hours/a week were done when including XC ski and ski mountaineering in the winter... so frustrating, specially when having paid for the premium sub. This + the fenix not showing laps :-( :-(

  • Seems strange to not include hiking/walking, as part of many running training programs you have easy days that may include walking, especially those doing couch to 5k programs.

  • Here in Michigan where the primary activities are now outdoor activities like XC skiing, it would be great to see some statistics reflecting the majority of my workouts.  This feature seems pretty easy to implement since you should just have to remove criteria from a query/Rest API call.  If it appears the I am a software engineer that has done this before you would be correct.  Please add "Other activities" to the statistics page.
