Hide Start time of Activity to Followers

Attention to all those who exercise when others think that should be working!   Sometimes, I sneak out in the middle of the day - after I've done lots of work in the morning or accomplished a really big task.  But, my friends give me grief because they see activity start times in the middle of the day.  Consequently, I have ceased inviting others to follow me - all because Strava reveals my start time. I would love to expand my connections/followers, but I cannot.

So, I would like there to be an option on my profile to show/no show the time of the exercise to my followers. (it's on a variety of screens)

 - Note:  To those who think that hiding the exercise is the answer.  I do not want to hide my exercise, I want to do the opposite - I want to broadcast it - just not when I'm doing it!

  • Why won’t anyone from Strava respond?

  • I started the request. In the first instance. And since that tried to get hold of Strava to develop a company group and asked for help to arrange.. NO RESPONCE from anyone.. except the premium fees keep getting debited.. no customer service whatsoever..

  • This is now become ridiculous. While privacy and personal safety online is becoming so important, Strava have not addressed this issue, or even had the courtesy to put a response on this tread for a very long time. This feature is important to me as it is with all others who have submitted comments. Can I suggest that we need to become a lot more vocal on this matter. Can everyone on this tread start leaving regular comments demanding strava address this issue. If the tread become very busy if may be harder to ignore. Personally i’ve also been asking other strava users that I know that have an interest in the subject to start leaving comments. I’m also going to try and email and tweet Strava. If we become noisy enough we can get this done, or at the very least have Strava respond to us and explain what is taking them so bloody long to get this resolved. Let’s get this done people.

  • I’m seriously irritated by this. This is my 3rd request in this. Why can’t they do something? Clearly because they don’t want to. Hiding the activity is not the answer. It’s simply the excuse they are using.

  • They responded and said this is not something they plan to do and simply marked the matter closed..I think this needs to be logged as a series of new Strava notifications so the quantity Will force action.. if whanyone logs add the comment to this thread and we can all log onto and comment to give weight to each report of this security/privacy concern..

  • PLEASE Strava  - please respond to us.  You have a nice product, but this is a MAJOR shortcoming that could easily be fixed.

  • I recently applied for a position at Strava. When asked what my long term goal was, I stated that I would take over the support team and improve the way they took care of their customers. I actually mentioned this thread. I think that I may have offended them, doubtful that I will ever get hired there now.

You would think by now that the company has matured and listens to their paying customers.

Does Strava Product Managment ever read these posts? Guess not.

  • This topic makes me realized that Strava do not understand and listen the needs of their users (even premium), even if it is about privacy... We are in 2018 Strava ! Privacy is a key point nowadays !

Today I have exactly the same issue than the guy in 2014, 4 years ago... I do not want to give opportunities to "colleagues", who are in the other side good teammates for sports, to make remark on my working hours by just sniffing my commutes activities... Starting time should be optional it does not bring any useful information and in some circonstance may cause harm.

Put commutes activities private is not a solution, I would miss so many KOM :D

  • What is the delay in getting this fixed?? I would absolutely sign up for the Premium version if I could avoid posting time stamps on my workouts.

  • This thread is so old. Still no action.

Strava is not even bothering to respond anymore.
I enjoy the app ... but I’m actually reluctant to invite coworkers, bosses etc (that are not currently using it). I don’t want to broadcast the exact times of all my activities. Who would? Why the F**k won’t Strava accommodate this? It’s ridiculous.

  • This is simply ridiculous. ETF Strava. It’s a privacy issue. Plain and simple. At least respond. Tell us to screw off or something. Why won’t you reply?

  • I think it would best to start posting these comments to Stava’s Facebook page. I don’t get the impression they even monitor this much anymore. I haven’t seen a response to any of these posts in a few months. Perhaps postong in a more public forum might help generate a larger sense of urgency for them. After all, this thread started in 2014.

You can post right on the home page.

  • Strava,

In a world where everything is published, the least you can do is allow us to have some bit of privacy. If I am running the same trails or areas at the same time on a regular basis, I don't need a creeper who found strava as a way to stalk people being able to see my patterns. Additionally, I don't want co-workers and some people to know when I am running.

It will take one incident when a runner is stalked and they are able to link the perpetrator to Strava and see that they had access to see a runner's patterns and locations. You want us to publish our activities, otherwise hiding activities wouldn't remove us from leaderboards. But by sharing activities you are forcing us to expose ourselves.

At the VERY least, allow us to give general, broad times like "morning" or "evening".

  • Please add this feature right away. People have been begging for it for over 3 years. Seems simple enough to code in a toggle off.

  • Please strava Support, put in your voice at those privacy meetings! It isn’t that hard to hide that text field or replace it with some more broad wording. Please! Please!

  • It is very clear that they are aware of this issue and have chosen not to grant customers what they are asking for. Strava clearly has well thought-out reasons for not including this feature (whether you agree or not).
I find it frustrating that hey won’t share their rationale. Are there swaths of cyclists globally who absolutely need for people to know exactly what time an activity starts and what time a photo is snapped?

@ premium members (or whatever we are called now)
By the way ... if you want to get their attention. Post directly to their public Facebook or Instagram. I’ve done it and they responded the same day. Albeit with an answer that basically said it was none of my business and that those public forums were not intended for my type or comment.

I like Strava ... but there is clearly a little arrogance top down.

  • Hi Strava. Didn’t know this thread existed until after recently requesting a feature to be added to hide activity time. You then forwarded me a link to this thread which dates back to early 2014!!! How can you ignore such a quantity of requests from your loyal users for over 5 yrs????!!! Disappointing to see the history here and only reiterates the fact that youlll most likely ignore another consumers request to improve your App. BTW your product is great and I love the way it encourages a healthy lifestyle.
    Regards. Eddie.

  • Strava has some of the worst support of all the social applications. They have no regard for user privacy.

  • After reading this, I become also slightly concerned about Strava respecting my privacy or at least the feature roadmap of the company. I am a summit user for over a year now but can understand why DC Rainmaker is openly upset about this company... Are there alternatives popping-up which might make me consider shifting from Strava?

  • This is my second plea for Strava to do this.  I think the first time I asked was over 3 years ago.  I don't want to make my rides private but I can't stand people knowing the exact time of day I got on my bike.  I can't imagine it is difficult to change this.

  • We’re going on 5 years, Strava!! I agree with everyone: this shouldn’t be hard to implement at all! I actually have seen some rides (e.g., on Garmin 520s) that don’t display the times at all...

I’m wondering how the heck they do that!

  • I think it's a big mistake because people don't have to know the time I go riding a bike. I'm going to get rid of strava if they don't fix it.
