Enter Elevation data for a Manual Activity entry

I run on the treadmill and I typically run on an incline. I like to record my ascent for week, it wold be nice to add the miles on the treadmill to the total.

  • We shouldn't need to vote for this, this should just be a standard feature. STRAVA - JUST DO IT

    If we can add manual entries with distance and time, then we should be able to add elevation as well. I run ultras, and GPS watches don't last long enough. So I get the distance and elevation from the race organisers, but can't enter the elevation into Strava. Just did a 3370m ascent over 35K on Saturday and can't enter the altitude, so it looks like I'm a very slow runner (as opposed to just a reasonably slow one)!!

  • Guys, no one reads this shit. We've been saying it for years. Garmin Connect has improved their platform. I think I'll just move over there.

  • my garmin battery died on a mountain loop and I wanted to track my elevation gain through Strava - I just can't understand why this is not one of the manual data entry fields -

  • When my Strava app fails to record my ride, I would like to be able to copy my riding buddy's ride and enter it as my own (with a note explaining why.)  Typically we stay together for the entire ride so his ride data is my ride data. A manual entry does not allow elevation gain so distorts my stats.

  • Looking at the list of comment, people have been requesting this update for well over a year.    If anyone at Strava reads this (and I do mean "if"", maybe they can kick the IT nerds in the head and wake them up.    Maybe you should take there TV away so they have to do more a work than watch Sienfeld reruns.

  • Same problem from a different angle.

    My treadmill runs are recorded onto IFit which can be exported to TCX and imported to Strava as a treadmill run. The elevation data is contained in the file and shows on the detailed display of the run in Strava but simply does not count on weekly ascent totals. Crazy stuff from Strava.

  • Please add this!! Many treadmills now do a good job of calculating and showing vertical feet gained. Tracking this is important for those of us training for mountain and ultra races but having to run on treadmills sometimes. For example, I just did a 13.1 training run and gained almost 1,900 ft of vert but this is lost from my overall totals. Many people, running or biking, are now more focused on vert so please make it happen!

  • Every now and then Strava on my android fails to record  my ride.  I can input the time and distance after the fact, but I would also like to add the elevation gain to my record.

  • My Garmin died on my century this wkd so I had to do a manual entry on Strava. However, even though it shows an elevation of "0", it does not let you enter elevation gain!  If you can enter miles, why not elevation!!  This is an important metric for cyclists. Please add this field to make this complete!

  • I raised a ticket with support about this issue. They categorically stated this is the intended behavior of manual entries and it will never be changed.

  • Please make the elevation manually fixable/editable. My Garmin records a more accurate number. Everyone else on the same ride gets way more then I do. My last weekend ride I did with a friend we covered the same 53 mile together, but I had done 24 more miles by my self for a total of 77.9 miles. He has 200+ feet of climbing then I do. My Garmin recorded 4,050 feet of climbing and Strava on my iphone has only 3,563 feet.

    I would like to input the number my Garmin has.

  • Agree. Tracking elevation is important to me and at least once or twice a season either my device or user error causes me to miss recording a big ride. I know the elevation of all my rides so would like to be able to addd manually when needed.

  • Kevin, if you have a Garmin, why not sync your Garmin activity to Strava and avoid using the Strava app for tracking? You can configure Garmin to auto sync everything. It is simple.

    On this note, I don't think activities tracked through the app or another gps watch should be editable. Then any integrity total elevation gain had (for leaderboards, etc) is out the window. Manual activities should be allowed to enter elevation gain though.

  • Barrett, you should be able to edit elevation on any activity.  It should just invalidate that activity for challenges if you manually edit a GPS-based activity.  That can't be hard to set up.

  • Barrett, if that's the case, then tou have to do away with manual entry completely. There are leader boards for distance and pace too but you can enter those manually.  In facts, people manipulate the workout files from GPS watched too.  

    Allow addition of elevation, but no manual entry is eligible for awards.

    I can see the issue with manually adding elevation and how that could skew scores etc, but how about for those people who's strava or GPS device failed we can then manually add a new custom route and then when we manually add a ride we can say 'Used this route' and then it can look to the custom route to pull down the elevation and distance etc.

    It would be a manual process to sit at your computer and draw out and trace that route you followed on a map, but if maps are where the elevation data is coming from, this would tie in. You'd get distance and time (therefore average speed) and then from that elevation as well.

    Come on Strava - I'm 1,200 ft down on my stats because The app crashed on my stupid Android phone!

  • Would love to see this feature. I often times run with a watch that just doesn't upload well with Strava (Suunto). The programs simply do not mesh well and the uploads are sporadic so I choose to simply keep track with my watch then manually enter. Not having the manual elevation feature makes the entry incomplete.

  • I can't understand why this feature hasn't been implemented. Seems easy enough. Wouldn't break anything.

    Strava already tracks the vertical for every run. If I can manually enter distance, time, pace, why not very?

    I'd find it useful for treadmill, or also times when I didn't bring GPS watch our phone, or they ran out of battery.

  • i climbed some 700 metres plus the other day ( sunday ) and strava recorded it as 10 metres. 

    how do i get that corrected?

  • Strava would have to make manual elevation for personal record keeping only.  If the data were displayed for every follower no doubt the cheaters would be recording one milllion foot months.  I see it every day with the current system, people cheat and suck up praise from their followers who have no idea they're being fooled.

  • I think the opportunity of manual entries of elevation would be usefull. If we can entry distance and time, why not elevation? Just keep all manual entries out of challenges and it's done.
