Galileo

Hello,

I would like to know about the geolocalisation that is used by Strava. Is it GPS or Galileo or does it switch from one to the other?

Can I see on the app what is currently being used?
Thank you very much

  • Strava only reads the position that is reported by your phone, so the number of satellites and GNSS constellations that are used to determine your location depends on the OS your phone is currently running and what hardware it has available.

Multi-constellation GNSS support was introduced in Android Nougat 7.0, and many newer (2017+) Android phones have hardware support for Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou (I believe the iPhone currently supports GPS and GLONASS only). You can use an app like GPSTest to see a list of satellites that your device is currently using to determine your location. This is the same location that Strava uses when recording your activities.
