New Map Rendering

Please, bring back the Google Maps. The new map engine (Mapbox) is horrendous and is harder to see the streets unless you zoom right in (and this is for places that I'm well familiar with). As well, bring back the old heatmap. Using different thickness of blue is no good, compared to the different shapes (blue to red) of the old one.

  • I agree please bring back the old heatmap. Using different thickness of blue is no help, compared to the different color of blue and red. There is no way with the new heatmap to look at a road, trail an know if it is heavily used or not.

  • Google maps are no better.  And in my area, OpenStreetmap based maps are far more complete. But I agree, the contrast of the maps is as bad as it possibly could be (just as with google maps btw) and houses are nowhere to be seen.  That way it is hard to see, where segments start or end.

Personally, I prefer the maps from https://opentopomap.org/ (based on OpenStreetmap data, everything needed for rendering can be found on github).

  • For me, it's not the accuracy or completeness of the maps. It's how they're rendered. In Google Maps the streets are clearly visible. However with what they are now using, the roads are white and the background is a light gray, which means you really have to zoom in to find what you want.

It's as if they are trying to force you to use the heatmap now to create routes.

  • The new maps are in the wrong language, if you look at other countries. For example in greece it uses the greek alphabet, in Japan: Kanji - so unless you speak those languages you cant find, Yokohama or Miyazaki or whatever.
Kind of a problem if you go on a riding holiday somewhere.
