Strava support for Pebble on iOS

Could Strava please consider support for Pebble watches as an external display?

  • You're right, unfortunately it does seem to be moving people away from Strava.

I use an iPhone and I have had to stop using Strava due to no Pebble support. It's such a shame as the Strava app is great! I've now been using mapmyride for a few days and it's not too bad. Such a shame Strava have put iPhone/Pebble integration on the 'back burner'.

Hopefully it will move t the front burner soon...

  • I just tried Strava and really prefer it over MapMyRide.  I did a quick check to make sure it would work with my Pebble before upgrading to premium, and am disappointed to see that it will not.

I'm onboard with Strava premium once I see this working!

  • + 1 - I have just switched to Strava from Run Keeper. As Strava is prefered for the Scoreboards and Segments :-) I have a Pebble and would love to see it work with that. Pause functionality would be AMAZEBALLS! However I did like the auto pause on RK :-)

  • +1- Just got a Pebble and I think I'm going to have to switch back to Runkeeper because of the lack of support from Strava.

  • Just got a Pebble and realized I can't use it with Strava on iOS... Bummer!  So, I had no choice but to try Run Keeper with Pebble. And wow, Run Keeper is not bad at all. I also found many of my friends are using RK.  I don't know if Strava is waiting for Apple iWatch or something but I agree with others, having no iOS support for Pebble is driving users away.

  • +1. Yet another potential Premium customer using Runkeeper because Strava iOS doesn't support Pebble.

  • I'm also holding off on upgrading to premium due to no Pebble support in iOS.  First day it is available, I'll upgrade :(

    Runkeeper it is for now...

  • It would be nice to have some feedback when it will be supported. Currently I am using Runkeeper and it works like a charm with the pebble.

  • It would be great to see Pebble support. For cyclists I recommend using Bike+ as this has very good Pebble integration and it's very quick to upload directly to Strava at the end of a ride. It doesn't support ANT meters (yet) but is accurate and reliable.
But Strava + Pebble support could move things into another dimension with in-ride segment notifications.

  • I bought a Pebble and was super excited when I saw RunKeeper, because I immediately thought: "Wait, is Strava in the app store?!?"  Sadly, it's not (ios).

I've been a proud and vocal Strava premium member since June 2012 and have brought at least five or six new users to the service.  I've never had any excuse to use RunKeeper (and actually quit MapMyRide to join Strava in 2011) - but I just cancelled my premium subscription and will start to use the other tools.

By the way, Elle - you're doing a great job!  Clearly, you're in a tough spot here - I've been in your shoes.  So I think the most helpful thing I can do is ask you to tell management that users said:

"Look, we get it.  Product management roadmaps are complicated, and the Pebble effect caught you off guard.  But I think you should more carefully consider the Pebble ios customer segment.  What % of Strava users are on IOS and have Pebble?  Small, yes; growing, probably.  But, and here's the key, what types of users are these people?  My guess: high net worth, tech early adopters and advocates, highly vocal and love to share comments online.  That usually describes the ideal customer target.  Why give them (us) an excuse to try out another service?  It raised questions about your technical bandwidth that customers shouldn't ever have to think about.  And what if we're ok with Runkeeper or MapMyRide?  We'll never come back."

  • Looking at Android and Apple app stores, Strava for Android has 87K reviews, Strava for iOS only 13K... I guess that explains the prioritization of Strava's dev team.  Add my name to the list hoping for iOS support.

And another idea... forum readers, anyone care to start an online petition on this just so they get a picture of how many potential users they are missing?

  • I had sent an email to Strava asking about this subject, just got the reply

"Currently we don't have any plans to integrate Strava with Pebble for IOS, but it is something we may consider in the future!"

Sad day.  : (   I really like Strava but I guess its on to try out other programs.

  • Hi boys and girls,

Until Strave fixes the Pebble issue if at all i found a design around that work well for me. There is an app that records activities and displays on the Pebble and when done can be set to by default to upload your data to Strave. The app is called iSmoothRun, see Scott Noack post on May 30th. it sound like a running app and it is but also a great cycling app.  (http://www.ismoothrun.com) try this link?

  • After seeing Victor's recommendation of ismoothrun I tried it out. It's a nice app that once setup automatically exports to Strava when done (finish the run/ride by tapping the "Stop and Export to Strava" button). It's even got a Pebble app you can download so you can customize what is displayed on the Pebble when you are running, which is handy.

I think Strava is looking for 3rd party apps/devices like ismoothrun and RunKeeper to export to Strava, instead of the Strava app having to support a myriad of devices. Just a hunch.

  • +1 for iOS pebble support. I use MapMyRun for now because it supports it. I want to switch to Strava because I have friends on it. I emailed support and they said "Thank you for contacting Strava. Sorry about that! Unfortunately, at this time, the Pebble is not able to interface with the Strava iOS app at this time. I apologize for the inconvenience." Not much news there...

I also have a lot of other friends who have this same complaint but just aren't vocal like me to say something on this forum.

  • I've switched to iSmoothRun. It automatically exports to Strava with all data including segments. iSmoothRun app allows you to customize what three things you want to show on the Pebble. I have Distance, Avg Speed and calories burned.

  • Please support Pebble Watch!

    1) speed

    2) distance

    3) Heart rate

Pebble integration with Heartrate would convince me to go premium.  nothing else has yet.

  • Solution found!

iSmoothRun for iPhone BOTHA supports Pebble and can upload to Strava. $6 but totally with it! The developer is really passionate about his product and it really shows. Now I have heart rate, cadence and speed all mirrored on my pebble from ISmoothRun

  • Just use Run+ or Bike+ for excellent Pebble support. Both apps can automatically upload to Strava when you complete a run/ride (via the watch). No HRM support yet though but they are bringing out new features all the time.

  • I am personally using Endomondo for iOS (on iPhone 4S) along with the Endomondo for Pebble apps together for my bike rides for the past 2 months. It is the best combination in my opinion because Endo (on iOS) allows you to link and customise which stats you would like displayed on the pebble. Many folks on this discussion thread want to view current speed instead of avg speed and Endo allows you to do that and in addition gives you the option to display HR, calories burnt, etc. You would obviously need an external HR monitor to link with Endo to display those stats and Endo gives audible feedback every lap (configured to 1Km distance by default). One user in this thread wanted audio feedback on HR which can also be configured in Endo. You can start/pause your workout through pebble. However, I prefer the Strava community and the various clubs I am a part of so I simply upload the gpx files manually from Endo to Strava. The premium membership for Endomondo was 50% cheaper than Strava and more loaded with features like displaying upto 4 customisable stats during workout against Strava's fixed 3 stats, different training modes like "Beat Yourself" or "Beat your friend", etc. I also liked the fact that the moment I launch Endomondo on my iPhone, the Endo app on my pebble launches automatically to display the 3 stats I have configured. However, Endo has its downsides such as it is a power hog compared to Strava. Endo has a low battery mode setting but I'm not sure if it helps significantly. In conclusion, if you are looking for the best iOS companion app to pebble for bike rides and running in the present, then Endomondo will exceed your expectations! I've not tried Bike+ till date because I chose not to overload my iPhone and pebble with too many apps and so far Endomondo has worked great for me. But if Strava gets its act together and deploys a solution soon, then I would ditch Endo in a heartbeat! ;-)
