Community management of Segments - Premium Members

I would like to suggest that segment owners are displayed so others may contact them with suggestions e.g. 'please move the end back from the junction' or 'please move the end to before the 30mph starts' this would allow users to police the segments and as the owners are public discourage subscribers from creating inappropriate/dangerous segments  and most importantly elevate safety. No doubt if segment owners were public we would see a marked improvement in spelling and grammar - maybe only premium members should be able to create segments?

  • I agree. So many segments named for the wrong trail name.

  • Totally agree, it would be nice if we can contact with segment owners and give them recommendations, ideas about their segments.

  • I agree.  Didn't found this suggestion, so I created another with about the same content.

But limiting segment creation to premium members only is a bad idea.    You can be an experienced, advanced user even if you're a free user, just as you can be an ignorant premium member.

  • Totally agree with these ideas. One of many examples of a badly created segment is "Whinlatter (100 Greatest Cycling Climbs)" which finishes a long way short than the climb listed in the book of the same title.  It's time for some sort of moderation.  Most of the well created segments on that climb and many others are hidden automatically by Strava.  Making segment creators contactable is a great idea to improve things. Give all segment creators an amnesty to say if you don't give permission to allow people to contact you about your segment then Strava will make it private after a certain date.
