View all Segments in Segment Explorer

I'm always looking for new segments to conquer and many times there are some good ones already defined that just don't show up on the segment explorer.  Is there any way to have a "see all segments" option?

  • Same problem here. Strava segments have just disappeared from my explorer (not a military zone). Time for a new app to take over from strava maybe

  • I am so bummed out by what Strava has done. I used the segment explorer feature a lot. I use it to locate new spots to ride here in Nova Scotia. I’ll be dropping my premium membership if this feature isn’t brought back.

  • Another very unhappy premium member. A vast amount of my local segments accross Aberdeenshire are not visible and pretty much everything has gone from the Cairngorm National Park.

Why no response to the posts above??? get this sorted strava,

  • The Reason

Segments have disappeared from Explore Segments because the Military Industrial Complex is stupid in allowing their soldiers to upload training data to Strava.  Though it only relates to Heatmaps, Strava has decided to hide Segments as well.  https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/28/politics/strava-military-bases-location/index.html

    Partial Fix

Until Strava fixes this, I have found a reach around of a sort.  Go to the My Routes page in your account.  Create a route and save it.  All segments on that route are now visible.

  • @Rhys Lawson Agree, if the heat map was what caused all the dramas then why on earth haven't they turned that off first??

Something really doesn't make sense here, compounded by the fact that Strava seem to have just buried their head in the sand and hoping that the problem will go away by itself.  I guess it will... as more and more users leave their app....

  •

Very disappointing Strava, I can’t even find my own segments in the segment explorer, I ride in remote areas and once used the explorer to plane rides and measure my performance, these changes are making Strava useless. Once again very disappointing!

  • Good Idea @Justin Brubaker.  Strava just doesn't seem to care much about new features. There are so many simple things that could make it better. Athlete searches limited to an area for instance.

  • It's super annoying you have to find somone who has gone on the segment to view it because it does not show up in explorer 🤨 like why even have explorer... fix this asap I mean alot of the ones that don't show up are pretty damn popular aswell....😤

  • Dear Strava developers, please, make a option to see not-so-popular segments. Thank you.

/You know, the army should prohibit the soldiers give their data and information public; it is up to them to order it and to follow this order. You are not repsonsible for it./

Or PLEASE at least lower your algorithm - so the less (not the least) popular segments can be viewed. Because now it is quite high.

    Thank you once more.

  • this is still a very frustrating issue and it's really sad and disappointing that it has been an issue for YEARS. Stupid US soldiers, yes, but also a STUPID response to it by STRAVA.

my version of what we need (in no particular order - all are number one):

    1) next n segments - user choice of 10/20/50 segments to appear in view

    2) toggle on/off segments that cross my current view but don't necessarily start and end in it

    3) filter by segment total ascent or descent, segment length, relative popularity within view (high/medium/low)

    4) ability for the segment creator to mark it as needing higher precision (ie. a narrower range of results can match the segment) eg. for when you get that situation where 2 segments are close to each other but are different length/ascent/profile/terrain underfoot

    5) provide the ability for validated organisations such as the US armed forces to create an over-riding privacy zone for specific GPS co-ordinates and prevent segments that cross those zone from appearing at all (or they could just train their personnel)

    6) ability to list my starred segments in a sortable order, and more than the top 100 - page thru all of them

  • Crazy. I made a bunch of segments, trying to get all the good climbs in the local area. There aren't many road riders but a decent number of tourists and I thought it would be a good resource for them. Now most of the segments don't show up because they haven't had 10 riders... kinda defeats the purpose.

  • Have to agree, the search function really needs some attention.... hopefully it will be part of the recent attention to other issues.

  • Since the recent Strava e-mail says they are going to focus on their athletes, I'm adding my input to all of these threads about needed fixes in the hopes that maybe something will finally be done about them.  The Segment Explorer as it stands today is pretty much useless to me.  I try to use it to either find new segments to ride or when I want to find one I know I have ridden before but don't remember the name and the tool can't do either.  Even if I remember the approximate start point and zoom in the map there it doesn't show up, I assume because the end is no longer visible on the map.  If I zoom out so that it would cover the full segment, it doesn't show up either, I assume because other "more popular" segments fill the returned results.  Instead I have to search through all my old rides until I find one where I covered that route to locate the segment.

  • What Ryan said...

It would be great to have the ability to toggle to all segments.

  • This remains a huge and gaping hole in the functionality of the Segment Explorer. Showing only the top ten popular segments in any one area is virtually pointless to most keen athletes. Why on earth would you want to see segments that are overused and commonly known. Not being able to find hidden gems is a massive oversight by Strava. This limited functionality is especially disappointing to paying subscribers.

  • Agreed. Would love to be able to easily search for a good 5k or 10k routes in new cities or neighborhoods.

  • Glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem. Segment explorer is now mostly useless.   If I recall it took 3 years of complaining for them to finally update heatmaps (and the result was spectacular). So I guess I'm ready to wait and expact the new Segment Explorer to be ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR.

  • Agree totally - absolute joke as only segments ridden regularly are displayed now as we are in a remote area and by default segments will be ridden less relularly.  Also most local segment times are set by riders in a race situation,,,,, Then are harder to find as this course is only popular once-a-year.....  I get a once-in-a-lifetime wind to break these race set segents and I can't even find them now.....  Please fix Strava......  'Segment Explorer' is a misnomer - it may as well be Google Maps for all it has to do with Strava segments now..............  Are e-bike segments recorded on phone being removed......????

  • Same issues here here. I think STRAVA is trying to make money by selling segements in North Korea. FIX or REMOVE.

  • do not know if "Segment Explorer" issue related, but noticed also some are missing if looking our route from other user's (following us) profile.

Basically public created segment behave like private one: only visible by creator
It is a difficult "bug" to find out since
1)you need looking at your route from another user's profile (indeed I've discovered by accident)
2)not all created (public) segments are affected
    Any ideas?

  • Same problem for me. I create some new segment on new track in good place, but they are not on the explorer because they are not popular. So less popular segments will never be popular with this kind of filter. So due to this issue i'll stay free user.

Peoples choose strava for segments. If you kill your spirit, you will loose users

    regards

  • I was very excited when I saw the segments feature. I live in a rural area in which there are only 2 other people on Strava. I figured the segments map would be an amazing opportunity to show others the really awesome untapped riding we have out here. There are literally millions of rural acres without a segment on them and, due to the “popularity” threshold these places will not get on the platform. It’s sad. Perhaps Strava could institute a population factor in its “popularity” threshold? If all of the users in a 100 mile radius have ridden a segment... is it not popular?

    sincerely,

    all rural bicyclists

  • Is there really no official response to this for such a big issue from 2015? I just discovered Strava and thought this would be amazing, but I live in a rural area and there are no segments around at all, I figured I would create a bunch of fun routes, but what is the point if no one can discover them and join in?

As many have noted, sure I understand they may have to cull some of them if there are tons, but they should always show at least 10 segments on the selected area, even if these happen to be new and unpopular.

Or is there any good workaround? The only real workaround I've found is to create a google doc, and copy the links of your created segments and make a list, then others can follow the links, click on favorite and they will show up in their favorites, in time maybe enough people will make them popular enough. But it's a serious shit solution when they should really just show up on the map.
