  • Jojo I would please like the ability to control who can favorite me in their Following list and then receive notifications when I upload an activity. I don't mind if someone wants to go searching for me and my activities in Strava, but automated real-time notifications of my activity is a bit much IMO.

  • Robert Mountjoy Can you please submit a ticket to our support team so we can assist?

Christopher H. While it isn't possible to prevent your followers from favoriting you, you can see who has chosen to do so via the mobile app. Navigate to your profile > Click on "Followers" > at the top, you'll see who has favorited you.

  • Please increase the largest radius option on privacy zones. In a city, a 5/8 mile radius (the current max radius) covers hundreds or thousands of households, but in rural areas, a 5/8 mile radius may only include one or two houses.

  • Really great feature would be an option for default private activities and allow a setting for a minimum distance for an activity to be set public, per activity type

  • How to use geographic coordinates instead of an address at privacy zone? already changed several times the format and it´s never correctly located.

Can you please inform in which format to put, and the geographic coordinate system.

    Is that WGS84?

  • Jeremy J. , @ m (sorry, cannot find out how to tag you @ m

Thanks for answering. My problem is, that although i have the setting on "everyone" (i can see that in my personal settings and in the detail of the activity itself), the non-logged users (incl. me in an incognito window) still get the page where I have to login/register. On that page, there is a text "follow Jan to see this activity, registration is free".
So i would be totally fine with having some view with basic data of the activity, but I don't have even that :)

  • I'd like to hide my home address for everyone who is not my follower. Currently there seem to be only hide for all or none. Would be nice if my followers who I trust can see my full rides.

  • I'd appreciate the option to allow people to see my activity/progress chart/table while not necessarily making the rides themselves public.

This is because most of my rides are commutes or short trips which I still log but keep on private as I don't want them stinking up people's feeds, but at the end of the week my graph looks flat to them.

  • Hi,

I would also like to have specific privacy settings for activity types, as suggested by Ian MacDonald on January 02, 2021 19:42.

This would allow me to record any kind of activity with its own privacy setting without requiring a post-activity change.

As an example: it is my daily routine to ride my bike to/from work. These commutes shall preferably stay private ("Only you"), while other types of activities that I would share anyway with my followers, e.g. runs, should get this group set by its own default.

Some others have also recommended overrides from the default privacy settings, I also share this view.

  • Pommes Fritz: It makes me a bit sad, that a kindergarden must keep its address a secret. It would be advisable that your complete ride stay private so no one could even guess where you've taken your son.

  • I'd also like to Mute by Default. For me the reason is that I want to be able to name the activity, write descriptions, add pictures, etc before I post. Right now I do this by setting to Private by default, then setting to Public after editing. But I'd rather post it Publicly, but muted so that any friends and loved ones waiting for me to come home know I finished an activity if they go looking for it.

  • Add privacy settings for photos.
    - Only you
    - subscribers only
    - All users
Make these settings in the activity itself, in editing past workouts, and in the sharing settings.

  • Hide entire map feature is great! Would be more useful if you could chose this for only certain activities. Not as a setting for all future activities.

  • Hi,

I would like it very much if I can enable 2FA in my Strava account.
This is because there is quite a bit of private information to be found.

    Is this on the schedule?

    Best regards.

  • William Parsons - While they may or may not get around to giving you that full option, you can always go into your settings and turn off the notifications for things like Kudos and comments.  That way, they may still happen but you won't get bothered with all of the notifications that come with it.

  • William Parsons I share your desire to avoid the kudos and comments. It feels like a silly, insincere, ego stroking game of “I’ll kudo all yours if you’ll kudo all mine”, regardless of whether anyone did anything significant or not. Because I organize rides for my club on Strava and we use it to track mileage/activities, I can’t just go completely private or quit it. What I do now is use the Mute feature on every ride. By default my activities’ visibility is set to “Only You” (private). Once posted, I use the iOS app to mute the activity and change the visibility to everyone. My activities only appear under my profile. While I still get an occasional kudo or comment, the user has to visit my profile to find the activity first since it doesn’t appear on their dashboard or on group activities lists. It’s a little extra work, but it’s less work that trading insincere kudos with a bunch of folks. If Strava ever adds the ability to mute activities by default, it would remove that extra step and make my life easier.

  • Thanks Jason Lamoreaux Tom Benzaia I've seen and applied all those options. I don't have a mega amount of followers but enough that makes giving sincere kudos extremely time consuming and I eventually found myself flicking through my feed speed clicking every kudos. I know I'm not the first or only person to have experienced this and maybe I look too deeply into posted rides but most of my followers I have actually met on various rides developing a personal connection and connecting on a ride is what I appreciate most.

  • Please enable privacy zones for the entirety of the ride, not just beginning and end. If I return home mid-ride (it happens) the map shows me heading up my driveway.

  • Hey Strava,

I use Strava to plan training activities and routes. If I do not share my activities publicly, it is not possible to display my personal headmap when planning a new route in the desktop/online version. Please modify!
This is now possible in the app version, but the smartphone is too small to plan routes there!

  • Hello Strava Team, I have a question regarding privacy settings. Would you consider making an option that would allow followers to see my complete routes, but for public, the privacy zone would apply? In my opinion, this would be a quite realistic use case for users who would like to share their routes with everybody, but hide their address from people they don't know.
    Thanks for your consideration, Tamás

  • I would like my weekly stats to be shown on my profile again to people who are not following me. Now the yearly stats have even disappeared on my profile to my non followers , please at lease bring this back. I am not able to have everyone I would like as a follower on NRL page due to personal and work related reasons , and still been able to see the weekly/yearly stats on each other’s page has been very useful, with still been able to keep the rest of our profile private as it is needed for work and personal reasons. Please bring this feature back.

  • Not logged in users cannot see shared activity

For not logged in users, it is not possible to see an activity shared with them, although the Privacy setting is set to "Everyone". Such a user lands on a page where the user needs to register or login.

Sharing with not registered/not logged in users should however be possible according to this:
    https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216919377-Activity-Privacy-Controls

    • Anyone on the web:
      • Will see a logged-out version of your activity page which will include activity distance, elevation, moving time, pace/speed, calories, relative effort, photos (unless profile is set to followers), map, elevation profile, top achievements, splits, popular segment matches and your effort time, kudos, and comments.

  • Agree with the need for 2fa. I don't care for SMS based 2fa personally. There are so many better options (u2f, webauthn...)

  • I don't know if anyone asked for it before, but:

The privacy zones are only for the starting and ending point. I want a feature that hides my track if I'm also driving through this area.

F.e.: I bring my Son every day to the kindergarden by bike. The start and end is home. I press stop when we arrive at the kindergarden and play when I drive back, but this spot is not hidden and I don't want to make 2 activities, because I stay there for less than 5 minutes, but I don't want that others see where the kindergarden is.

  • Hi Ray Giddins

Thanks for writing in. You should be able to see what others can see when viewing an activity where your Map Visibility settings apply. Athletes can see what is hidden on all of their own maps
    • Map routes will be greyed out to show it exists for the owner athlete
    • Map routes visible to other athletes will be shown in orange
    • All other athletes on the platform will not see the grey hidden areas on maps
Once you hide a specific location in your Strava settings, this should be applied retroactively to all previously uploaded activities. If you add another default Map Visibility setting, such as hiding your start and endpoints no matter where they occur or hide your maps completely, these settings will not be applied to previous activities and will only apply to future activities. If you then toggle a Map Visibility setting on an individual activity, the last settings change to the individual activity will be used, including toggling off that setting. One important note is that, with the exception of hiding your maps completely, Map Visibility settings apply to the start and end of your activity and not to any middle portion. If you ride or run through a hidden area, that portion of your activity will still be shown. You can find more information about your Privacy Settings at our Privacy Center. If you have any additional questions, feel free to submit a support ticket.

  • I enjoyed a ride to Plymstock Devon UK today and was delighted to find I had a few PRs on Strava Segments upon return. Alas one of these segments had been given a very offensive name. I don't really want this attached to my profile or stats.

I could maybe delete this segement on my record but it may show up when I next ride it and also others who may also be offended. Can Strava change or get the name changed please.

I am going to leave it on my profile for the next few days so that any moderators can see it.

  • GPX download control

It would be good to have a way to control who can download your gpx by blocking the gpx download button for all your activities or even better for each particular activity.

Right now to avoid somebody to download your gpx you have to hide the ride from everybody. However I have no problem with my followers knowing in which area I rode, but that doesn't mean I want them to be able to download the gpx and get all the details of my ride: lines, entrance and exit points, etc. Sometimes these info is personal and I don't want all of my followers to have access to it.

Thanks for considering this idea and thanks for a great app!

  • m:  This bugs the heck out of me as well.  If I share my activity on facebook most of my facebook friends (due to not being on strava) can't see much of my stats.  I fully agree with Jan.  If they activity is flagged as "everyone" then it should be EVERYONE.  Not just Strava members because Strava wants more users.
