  • Can we please add to the "to do" list a regular rowing challenge - eg monthly 100k alongside the regular ride/run/walk challenges? There's a load of rowers out here - in addition to the "standard"  Concept2 and other than time based workouts, they have nothing to show for rowing efforts. Appreciate the comment above about being v busy but if things ease up, it'd be a good to have a rowing challenge. Specific manufacturers might be interested but that'd be like asking Giant to sponsor a badge/challenge for riders of Specialised and Canyon bikes so I can only see it happening as a Strava, rather than partner, initiative. Thanks

  • Crispin We all know that you cant create private challenges, that is why this community post exists.

Feedback we need from Strava is; are going to put this in your development/enhancements queue?

A lot of people pay for this product now, you need a clear way to take onboard feedback and enhancement requests and report on what is and isn’t going to be developed.

  • Can we have a Strava club that includes walking activities in the team totals?

I have been trying to set up a club for my work colleagues who have differing levels of fitness.

We would like a club where we can track our collective total of miles walked and run. It would be a great incentive for the colleagues who aren’t able to cycle or run.

Something like the current multidisciplinary clubs would be perfect if they include walking in totals.

  • Hi Strava,

Currently on the Challenges one that you can join have an Orange label (Join Challenge)

When you join a challenge it turns Grey (Challenge Joined)

Can you do an update so when you have completed a challenge it shows Green (Challenge Completed)

This would make it easy to see where we are on completing challenges and where, or what areas we are falling short. So can see what we need to target

  • I agree with the yearly challenges. Some examples:

    1. 5,000km, 10,000km (pole to equator), and 20,000km (pole to pole) as potentials.
    2. Getting all 12 grand fondo badges.
    3. Getting all 12 cycling distance badges.

In addition, it would be awesome to have lifetime achievement challenges. Some examples:

    1. 10,000km lifetime (pole to the equator)
    2. 20,000km lifetime (pole to pole)
    3. 40,000km lifetime (a full lap of Earth)
    4. 100,000km

  • Oftentimes, a user will have signed up for multiple challenges which are running concurrently. It would be great if Strava let the user choose the banner to be displayed. As an example, I’m currently in the Poland Spring 5M kickoff and the Virtual NYCM.
Strava is displaying the 5M banner and I would want the NYCM achievement to be displayed.

  • I want a feature allowing you to create a challenge for a fundraising effort. By having this in Strava, anyone interested in the fundraising attempt would be able to see the basic details but then also the activities completed towards completing it. It would allow me to set a long term challenge for which people could sponsor me for. I think this would be helpful as it would provide visibility, both for me and others, to see how I’m progressing towards the overall target. By allowing people to comment on the challenge, this would allow people to post motivational messages and share my progress. This could be extended to then allow other Strava users to combine together in completing team fundraising challenges.

  • It would be nice to have some easier riding challenges. Runners get 5k and 10k (maybe an hours exercise) and maybe other short distances but the shortest a cyclist gets is 100k which is an all day exercise. Thankyou.

  • Hi

Is it possible to create a goal such as completing the Gran Fondo every month for the year or a Half Marathon every month for a year. I can see in goals you can set a distance goal but it would be great to be able to set a specific challenge goal. This year for instance I wanted to complete a Marathon in April, if I set a distance goal for April all my training runs counted towards it rather than one specific run at some point during the month. Hope that makes sense?

  • Multiple users commenting on this forum have noted the problem with bogus results on the leaderboard. Yet, those same bogus data providers keep showing up in challenge after challenge. This leads users to question the validity of these challenges. The inaction to clean the mess makes all of the challenges less interesting. Once you start to lose interest in the challenges, you start to devalue the app. From there, it's a very short trip to oblivion for any entity. Ferret out the impossible entries Strava or embrace extinction.

  • Please create a monthly swim distance challenge.

We need it, for instance, to create our triathlon club ranking by simply picking the 3 rankings for run, bike & swim from monthly distance challenges.

We have many run & bike monthly challenges, but no swim challenge.

Also, as asked above, year challenges will be welcome.

    Thank-you.

  • Re the March 50km ride challenge...

As the Challenge is to ride 50km in one ride, should n't the leaderboard rankings be based on the number of times somebody completes a 50km ride ? Not the longest distance ridden in one go ? At the present, if you ride 50kms+ every day, or even twice a day, for a month you will still be at the bottom of the leaderboard while somebody who does just one ride of 200-300kms will be in the leaders. The challenge is not for the longest ride in a month, so IMHO Strava have got the leaderboard back to front. The leaders should be those who consistently complete a 50km ride (well, that's my humble opinion !)

  • I ask myself, why is it, that the 400 Kilometer in a month challenge is allowed also by handbike, but 50/100 Kilometer in one ride challenge is not??? I feel fooled while i do sports in a wheelchair, when seeing something like that. Please change the 50 and 100 km, so i am able to reach that goal too. It doesn't make sense like how it is now.

    Kind regards.

  • BIG "ditto" to Simen M.'s point #1 about the top three activity tabs. For me, and possibly many others, two of the tabs are just wasted bytes and electrons showing zeroes. If we can choose our distance units from miles or kms, surely we should be able to set a preference for the activities shown ?

  • I'm new to Strava and after one month as a paid subscriber, I must say, it wonderful EXCEPT: (a) constant suggestions about who to Follow, and (b) constant reminders about who I follow that joined a Challenge.

I have literally cut back on who I follow just because I don't want to be bombarded by more nonsense when they enter/create/complete a Challenge, so (a) and (b) are incompatible for your goals.

Please make anything other than Exercise Activities in the Activities Feed stop.  Thank you. Steve

  • Monthly running challenge for Total of 50 kms

I would like to see a monthly running challenge with total of 50kms, This would be an ideal distance for beginner runners, where 3-5 km alternate day would cover around 50kms. For now the minimum number of total kms of monthly running challenge is 100kms which can a bit high for beginner runners.

  • I really enjoy taking part in challenges, it doesn't matter to me where I am on the leaderboard I just use the challenges to motivate getting up in the morning and going for a run.  BUT it is very difficult to track your progression without opening a webpage for each challenge. On the mobile app the icon has a green progression ring around it and you can get a very basic idea (percentage wise) of how you are tracking. I am "old school" and prefer my PC to my phone and would therefore like to request that under the Challenges drop down menu you add a "My Challenges" button which houses the challenges you have joined and when opened has a progression bar under each challenge giving you the important info you need to complete a challenge i.e. distance to go, days left etc. etc.

  • Hi- I received a Strava email congratulating me on being one of a very small percent completing all 12 Strava Gran Fondos 2020.

In fact, I have completed the past 85 consecutive Strava Gran Fondos!  This has inspired a number of friends, followers, and patients to start their own streak- making it a priority to complete each month.  As a physician- I try to set an example, and encourage Exercise is Medicine for all, exercising regularly!

I want to view the top consecutive number of Strava Gran Fondos completed- we would be surprised if more than a handful have 80+ consecutive?  It will allow others to see that it is possible to maintain consistency in training for many years.  This is important because riders tend to come and go, not sticking to regular exercise. Exercise is Medicine and more people need to prescribe to this!

    Best,

  • Some feature request that I frankly find surprising I have to make :)

    1. Custom top three activities. In the app there are three main activities, cycling, running and swimming. I think these should be customizable or, at the very least, represent the three activities the athlete do the most. For my part, I never swim for exercise, but I do a lot of Nordic skiing during winter. Strava supports logging a wide range of sports and activities, but in this specific feature the design screams "We are for triathletes only!" With 55 million users on Strava and only 2.5 million triathletes in the world this makes no sense what so ever. In my case the three tabs should read "Cycling, Running, Nordic skiing".

    2. Clubs can only be running og cycling clubs. For the same reason as above this type of design excludes users. I've made a family club where the goal is to inspire and challenge each other to activity despite living in different cities and ranging from early 20s to late 60s in age. However the club stats only count running and cycling (and perhaps swimming, no-one in the family has done any during the Norwegian winter). Nordic skiing, weight training, hiking and other sports are not counted. Also, clubs in the app, only show weekly stats. I'd love to be able to check previous weeks and longer segments of time, like month and year (year-to-date).

    3. I'd also love to be able to make a club challenge. For ex. "Who can log the most elevation meters during February" or "The most minutes of activity during easter break", "The longest activity (in km or minutes) over the summer" The list goes on. I recently heard an interview with the Strava founders where they said they were going to roll out a feature where users can challenge their friends. This is a great step on the way to a more flexible service.

    4. Strava is all about motivating each other to do activity. One way Strava does this very well is being able to get motivated by friends' activity even if they don't work out at the same time as you, or even in the same place. However, the design of Strava is very limited by the lack of ability to challenge each other directly. It would be great if I could challenge a friend to beat me on a particular segment, or challenge us both to reach a specific time on a segment. "Hey Carl! Let's see who can ride this segment under 2:30 first!"

    5. More stats! I love stats. I'd love to see my cumulative yearly stats, total and by sport/activity. As well as by month and week, like now. I'd also love to be able to set more goals. As far as I can tell I can set goals on km/week or year or specific time goals for segments. I'd also love to be able to set a goal for elevation meters per week and year. I'm sure different type of goals are desired for many of all the activities offered on Strava.

After having been a Strava user for many years these are the things I miss and that would make Strava much, much better. Remember, everything is by design. Inclusion as well as exclusion. As it is now, there is a lot of exclusion designed into Strava. I'm rooting for you and actively encourage my friends to use Strava so I hope you will help my by designing their inclusion.

  • Challenges is perhaps the single most useful feature for me. I love it! Nothing motivates me more to go jogging than the prospect of failing a challenge (even though I have no intention of redeeming the reward for said challenge). It's a weird psychological game but it works fantastic for me.

Having said that, I wish there was a more customisable view of challenges, or maybe just different sort options. I'd love to be able to view the challenges I'm signed up for and sort them by finish date, by progress or by remaining effort required.

If I can see at a glance that there's a challenge that will finish tomorrow and for which I only need to run another 5km, I will find it hard not to go put on my running shoes straight away.

  • How about some more challenging challenges? Ride 100km? That's a challenge? Also a way to mute them from other people, sometimes my feed is 99% "x joined a challenge" related.

  • Please creat a properly functioning 75 to 80 age group that excludes people outside that age group. Some of us are still “ going for it” and would like our efforts to be properly recorded as are the lower age groups.

  • We need Strava to add an 80 and over age category. They did that when I turned 75 and now I'm getting ready to be 80 and don't want to compete with those 75 year-olds!

  • Request:  Regular monthly challenges for Non-Cardio based activities.  In particular, a monthly challenge for Strength Training (for example, 10 hours per month) and a monthly challenge for Yoga (Stretching) (for example, 5 hours per month)

Strength training and Stretching are vital for all athletes, but especially for those of us who are 60+.   Yes, I have my weekly goals set up for these (in addition to my cycling and walking), but I would love to see finishers badges in my Trophy Case - that would help me with my motivation - especially for Yoga/Stretching.

  • Please consider adding more walking challenges for distances of 100, 150, 200km a month.  There are some folks who 10km a day and would like that kind of motivation.  Thanks!

  • CO2 saved.

As a car owner - I want to be able to show my journey was done via active travel rather than driving. Also summarise CO2 saved per person per year. Set targets and award badges in the same way we have for miles ridden etc.

We have a commute option however that does not allow us to record all trips where we may have chosen to drive - and lose the ability to show we have made an effort to choose active travel rather than drive. We may choose to cycle to the shops, visit friends etc.

Why important? The world needs to change and we all  need to see the difference we make when choosing active travel. Also - Strava can promote itself and sell/share this data by grouping for countries and areas.

  • Can you at Strava look at these requests related to people asking for a way to turn off / hide Challenges and notice of people joining challenges from their feed?  I see this request as the most frequent request and more support (higher # of 'yes' comments) on this request than any other.  So, please give us a way to not see any notice of a Challenge in our feed.  They are just a clutter for people who do not have any interest in them.

  • The running challenge leaderboards are a joke. They're full of treadmill runs that are obviously fake or the result of badly calibrated equipment. Strava ought to filter those out, or just remove treadmill runs from challenges altogether.

For example take a look at this activity. It was on the December 10k running challenge leaderboard. The pace is faster than the world record for that distance. Obviously not real. Maybe users aren't deliberately cheating but watches are extremely inaccurate for measuring treadmill run distance.

  • I would like to suggest what I'd call challenge overflowing.

The point of challenges is to encourage people to exercise more, to do an effort so reach a given goal. In my opinion, for someone who runs 250k per month, a "run 100k" challenge is not a challenge. It's easy for him/her.

The overflow I'm suggesting would be that once you reach a point beyond (to be discussed) the challenge's goal, you get hidden from it's leaderboard and are automatically added to the leaderboard of the challenge with the next higher goal. If you fail to reach that goal by the end of the challenge you still get the previous challenge's badge.

    Example:
Some assumptions : There are challenges for running 100k, 200k, 300k and 400k in a month. I run 11k per day every day. The overflow threshold is 25% of the difference between the lower and the higher challenge.

On day 10 I win the 100k badge. On day 12 however, I pass the 100k + 25% = 125k threshold, so I'm removed from the 100k leaderboad and added to the 200k leaderboard. On day 19 I win the 200k badge. On day 21 I pass the (200k-100k) + 25% = 225k threshold, so this time I'm removed from the 200k leaderboard and added to the 300k leaderboard. On day 28 I win the 300k badge. On day 30 I pass the (300k - 200k) + 25% = 325k threshold, I'm removed from the 300k leaderboard and added to the 400k leaderboard. On day 31 the challenge ends because it's the end of the month. I get the highest badge I've won that month, which is the the 300k badge, and only that one, not the 100k and 200k badge.

This way I've been challenged to keep up my efforts to reach a higher goal. This way the 100k badge remains reserved for less talented/experienced runners for whom this 100k really is a challenge and who now have a bigger/realistic chance of ever reaching the top of the leaderboard because it's no longer bloated by runners for whom this distance isn't a challenge at all.

  • Re challenges such as the cycling 50km and Grand Fondo 100km rides ....the challenge is to ride the distance (50/100kms) so should n't the leaderboard be calculated on the number of times that somebody completes the challenge ? Rather than the total distance they ride in the month as it is now ? The current system just duplicates the leaderboard for the other cycling challenges of doing 400/800-1250kms in a month. In my opinion if the challenge is to ride 50kms then some body who rides the distance multiple times should be ranked higher on the leaderboard than somebody who does just one long ride..
