  • I would love to see annual challenges that are similar to your monthly ones, e.g. Run 2000 miles in a year. Better, run the year in a year (2022 miles in 2022).

  • The running challenge leaderboards are a joke. They're full of treadmill runs that are obviously fake or the result of badly calibrated equipment. Strava ought to filter those out, or just remove treadmill runs from challenges altogether.

For example take a look at this activity. It was on the December 10k running challenge leaderboard. The pace is faster than the world record for that distance. Obviously not real. Maybe users aren't deliberately cheating but watches are extremely inaccurate for measuring treadmill run distance.

  • I would like to suggest what I'd call challenge overflowing.

The point of challenges is to encourage people to exercise more, to do an effort so reach a given goal. In my opinion, for someone who runs 250k per month, a "run 100k" challenge is not a challenge. It's easy for him/her.

The overflow I'm suggesting would be that once you reach a point beyond (to be discussed) the challenge's goal, you get hidden from it's leaderboard and are automatically added to the leaderboard of the challenge with the next higher goal. If you fail to reach that goal by the end of the challenge you still get the previous challenge's badge.

    Example:
Some assumptions : There are challenges for running 100k, 200k, 300k and 400k in a month. I run 11k per day every day. The overflow threshold is 25% of the difference between the lower and the higher challenge.

On day 10 I win the 100k badge. On day 12 however, I pass the 100k + 25% = 125k threshold, so I'm removed from the 100k leaderboad and added to the 200k leaderboard. On day 19 I win the 200k badge. On day 21 I pass the (200k-100k) + 25% = 225k threshold, so this time I'm removed from the 200k leaderboard and added to the 300k leaderboard. On day 28 I win the 300k badge. On day 30 I pass the (300k - 200k) + 25% = 325k threshold, I'm removed from the 300k leaderboard and added to the 400k leaderboard. On day 31 the challenge ends because it's the end of the month. I get the highest badge I've won that month, which is the the 300k badge, and only that one, not the 100k and 200k badge.

This way I've been challenged to keep up my efforts to reach a higher goal. This way the 100k badge remains reserved for less talented/experienced runners for whom this 100k really is a challenge and who now have a bigger/realistic chance of ever reaching the top of the leaderboard because it's no longer bloated by runners for whom this distance isn't a challenge at all.

  • Bart D,

This is a very good suggestion! And well though out!

     Vielen Dank!

  • Challenges accepting only moving time is frustrating. During a mountain bike ride or ski tour it will shave significant time off of my activity even though I am not really stopping and my heartrate is still high during any brief stops (I am guessing the amt of time it takes for my gps to pick up that I am moving again is slow). The time it takes for uphill travel for these types of activities is significant. By the end of a challenge my 'elapsed time' is often more than double what Strava views as the 'moving time' that is counted towards the goal.

Strava, these sports take dedicated time and energy regardless if I am in constant motion. Additionally, having to drive 1hr+ out to mountains only to have the app tell me they are only going to count half an activity is disheartening. If I want to complete a challenge like this, I am going to have to do double the trips just to balance the unnecessary time deductions.

  • I think the cycling climbing challenges should be reserved to real rides. I know modern Smart Trainers do wonders but a virtual climb is not the same as a real one.

If that's not possible you could add a selection button the allows us to select the real rides only.

  • Bonjour,

je ne comprends pas pourquoi l'activité "raquette" no compte pas pour le challenge marche 50 km. La randonnée compte, elle.

    ***

    Hi,

I do not understand why rackets activity is not part of wlaking 50 km challenge. For instance, hiking activity is included in challenge...

  • Is it possible to include e-bike category for the Gran Fondo and the monthly riding challenges??

  • I want to be able to create a challenge based on a route, including the number of times the route needs to be done to achieve the challenge. It will allow anyone to encourage other people in the same area to experience a route and improve their performance over time. Furthermore, more users can become aware of the route and increase their engagement.

  • In following with the request to structure the request:

I'm looking for monthly rowing challenges which are similar the standard running challenges (these are created it seems by "The Strava club".  I realize in principle these are really actually the same as individual monthly "goals", but ultimately, the same could be set for running challenges. There should be monthly challenges (100km,4 200km, 500km), there should also be individual challenges like 10k, 21097m and 42195m for a single session.

This can help people to get motivated for training efforts in the same way that running and cycling challenges helps.

Alternatively, how to we as create a club that would be able to set challenges (in the way that Strave Club does it?)

  • Why aren't there any winter sport challenges this year? I really enjoyed the February Snow Sport Challenge last year and was hoping to see more of this, not less! The only winter challenge this winter has been a Salomon nordic ski challenge that ended in mid-January before we got a decent amount of snow in Ontario. Running and riding challenges are great, but we could use a little more diversity in the sport options across the whole year!

  • Hi Karl!
I often find challenges that don't show up on the challenges screen via other users.

There's a Le Col Finding Form challenge and a XC skiing challenge by Swix both starting tomorrow (5th February).

    Happy training!
    Simen

  • What has happened to Strava's user interface of late? I used to be able to see the Challenges that I joined, and could see my progress.

Now, when I click on Challenges at the top here in the desktop website, I just get a huge load of massive tiles promoting new challenges for me to join or register for. I don't really want that. I want to see the Challenges that I'm actually in.
Strava doesn't seem to want to show me that at all, I can't find the option ANYWHERE in the interface.
Changes made to Strava in recent years have made the interface so confusing and there have been features removed. This is why I stopped being a paying subscriber. I have no idea why Strava wants to make their website and their app so awful and confusing to use. I think I might be better off just leaving it.
Why not hire an interface designer who cares for intuitiveness instead of making everything obscure and pointless?

  • Hi Peter Thomas! Thank you for your feedback on the Challenges interface and I apologize for the trouble finding your Joined Challenges. I will pass along your feedback to our Product Team. However, please keep in mind that from the Challenges page on web, you should be able to scroll throughout the page and find tiles in the gallery that show "Challenge Joined" - referencing your active or upcoming challenges. Example:

Additionally, you can also see your joined challenges from your Strava dashboard (https://www.strava.com/dashboard) on the righthand side of the page. Example:

    I hope that helps!

  • Re challenges such as the cycling 50km and Grand Fondo 100km rides ....the challenge is to ride the distance (50/100kms) so should n't the leaderboard be calculated on the number of times that somebody completes the challenge ? Rather than the total distance they ride in the month as it is now ? The current system just duplicates the leaderboard for the other cycling challenges of doing 400/800-1250kms in a month. In my opinion if the challenge is to ride 50kms then some body who rides the distance multiple times should be ranked higher on the leaderboard than somebody who does just one long ride..

  • Monthly running challenge for Total of 50 kms

I would like to see a monthly running challenge with total of 50kms, This would be an ideal distance for beginner runners, where 3-5 km alternate day would cover around 50kms. For now the minimum number of total kms of monthly running challenge is 100kms which can a bit high for beginner runners.

  • I agree with the yearly challenges. Some examples:

    1. 5,000km, 10,000km (pole to equator), and 20,000km (pole to pole) as potentials.
    2. Getting all 12 grand fondo badges.
    3. Getting all 12 cycling distance badges.

In addition, it would be awesome to have lifetime achievement challenges. Some examples:

    1. 10,000km lifetime (pole to the equator)
    2. 20,000km lifetime (pole to pole)
    3. 40,000km lifetime (a full lap of Earth)
    4. 100,000km

  • Swimming requests:  1) Can you create a function that allows a swim to be designated as a race?  This exists for running but not swimming.  2) Can you pretty pretty please give us a monthly swim distance distance challenge?  You offered this in October of 2020 and it was awesome!

Walking/hiking requests:  1) Would it be possible to include distance walked/hiked in the yearly totals as its own category? This could help distance trail runners to calculate training load more accurately in the app.  It would be so useful!

General requests:  1) The year-end summary is fantastic, but it would be so helpful if there was a static way to compare yearly totals from year to year.  2) As so many others have stated, the challenges joined by friends published to the activity feed needs to be addressed.

  • In Timeline settings (where we can choose to sort by time or by algorithm), I also want a checkbox to hide all challenge-related content from my timeline. At this point there are a ton happening every month and since I don‘t participate in challenges at all, there should be an easy way to just filter them out of the timeline. I don’t want to know which ones are available for the month and I don’t want to see how anyone else is doing on them or who joined what challenge.

EDIT: Or maybe instead of a show/hide option, you have show all, joined challenges, none as a pop-up.

  • @HeavyBoots  It has been asked dozens of times in this Strava feedback forum to please have us not have to view and scroll through Challenges constantly. The more athletes one follows on Strava, the worse it is in clogging the Activity feed…so much so that I’ve started deleting some that I’m following (particularly those that do many challenges each month) and I’m reluctant to follow more athletes because I’d be tortured with more Challenges in my scroll feed.  It’s a major issue, discussed often…we had a huge discussion about it after our weekly in-person club run a month ago…everyone hates it and a few cited it as one reason they dumped Strava.  I’m, personally, not dumping my Strava annual subscription over it, but I’m following fewer athletes and checking my home feed less often to avoid the annoyance; seems Strava would want to encourage “follows” and engagement, but these challenges do just the opposite.

  • Hello, would it be possible for you not only to count the virtual rides in your own cycling challenges, but also with the ebike. Specifically, I mean the 400km a month challenge, or 50km in a row. Those are your own challenges and you can't win anything. I see that as a motivation for Ebike cyclists too. There are enough people among your subscribers who, like me, cannot travel longer distances or climb higher without an electric drive for health reasons. Unfortunately, these individuals are currently excluded from Strava challenges. You can only attend the general ones like Le Col. I think it would be good if Strava's 50 km in a row challenge and Strava's 400 km a month challenge were expanded to include the e-bike segment.

  • @Jo Rau  " to include the e-bike segment." ..... wouldn't it be better if you had your own challenges ? I agree it would be added motivation for you, but there is a reason e-bikes aren't on the same leaderboards as "real" bikes.

  • Mike Nottingham - Hi, yes I agree with you. I didn't consider that the results cannot be separated in different leaderboards. But by the way, what's the point of leaderboards in this area if I can't win anything anyway. Especially since, as is well known, there are enough frauds or fake entries that you can't rely on anyway. So I would just remove these Leaderboards from these kind of Challanges.

  • With our company we are doing a challenge to ride your bicycle to work.
For every km that has been driven our company will donate 1 euro to pink ribbon.
Now it does not seem to be possible to create an challenge that filters the commute.

I found a challenge created by Strava in 2020 that does exactly that, why can't we do it ourselves?

  • There are no distance challenges that support rowing as an input, they are all locked to cycling, hiking, running or walking.

The lack of Strava distance challenges for other supported sport types is disappointing. Distance challenges for a wider variety of sports beyond the four mentioned above are good motivational tools that support your company's core value of commitment.

Your challenge systems support the functionality to add a wider variety of challenges, and the effort required to create new distance challenges for a wider variety of sports is low: you already have many, many distance challenges for cycling and walking.

Please consider adding monthly distance challenges that support more than just running, cycling, hiking or walking.

Edit: I've just taken a look at the support post history, and this is a support request that is repeated multiple times.

  • Hi strava,

It would be very nice if I was offered the opportunity to turn off the challenges that friends participate in so that they are not visible in my timeline. Somitimes my timeline is completely filled with challenges.

    Thank you.
