How do I Invite a Friend to my Activity?

Invite a friend to your Strava activity or accept their invite to share GPS credit, even if they weren't recording, right from the web or mobile apps.

Invite a friend who was with you but didn't record their activity on Strava. You can invite friends regardless of whether they're already on Strava.

Inviting a Friend

  1. Open the activity you want to add your friend to on either the Strava website or mobile app.

  2. From the activity details page, you can select the Add Friend or Add Others button (highlighted below).

  3. If you're sharing from the mobile app, you can choose your friend from your list of followers. If your friend isn't on Strava yet, you can select which application you'd like to use to share your activity.

  4. If you're sharing from the website, you'll be given a link you can send to the friend you'd like to tag.

If your entire map is hidden, you won't see the option to invite your friend to your activity. You'll need to edit your map visibility to restore the option:

  1. Go to your activity page and click the three dots on the right-hand side.

  2. Select "Edit Map Visibility" from the top of the list.

  3. Toggle off the option to "Hide Entire Map" from above the map and save.

After you save, you'll be redirected to your activity page and have the option to "Add Friends" or "Add Others."

Receiving an Invitation

Asking a friend to add you to their activity is an excellent way to get credit for your efforts if, for whatever reason, your activity wasn't recorded by GPS.

  1. You'll receive the invitation through a Strava notification or whichever app your friend chooses to use (email, text message, etc.).

  2. If you're new to Strava, select Get Started, and we'll walk you through creating a Strava account. The activity you're tagged in will show up on your new account.

  3. If you already have a Strava account, the invitation will open your Strava app, where you can accept it.

4. If you accept the invitation, your friend's activity will appear on your Strava profile and feed as if it were your own.

• You'll be grouped with the friend who invited you. The activity will count towards Strava challenges and clubs you're part of, and your stats.
• The activity you're tagged in will not match any segments or count towards running estimated best efforts, and it won't include heart, power, or cadence data.

This applies to activities recorded with GPS only; indoor activities without GPS will not be grouped together.

FAQs

My friend added me to their activity, but why didn't I receive the invitation?

  • Double-check that you don't have any manual or partial activities already on your account with the same date and start time. The system will recognize the duplication and prevent the acceptance of the shared activity.

  • Make sure you have Add To Activities enabled in your push notification settings on the Strava app, and When someone shares a Strava activity with me enabled in your email notification settings on the Strava website. If you don't, enable these settings and ask your friend to resend the invitation, preferably over a strong network connection.

  • If you already have these settings enabled and it's still not working, it may be related to a known issue. The current workaround is to ask your friend to invite you via text message or another messaging app. To do this, tap the activity in the Strava mobile app, tap Add Others, then tap the large Invite Friends button at the bottom of the screen. This provides a link you can share to invite you to the activity.

Will hidden portions of my activity still be hidden in my friend's activity?

No, the shared activity will not respect the inviter's map visibility.

Can I add a friend to a manual activity?

No, manual activities do not support this feature.
