You can hide the following details from your activities when they appear in other athletes’ feeds or when others view your activity.
-
- Heart rate
- Pace or Speed
- Power
- Calories
- Start Time
You can enable this setting for individual activities or set defaults as outlined below. You can also adjust it anytime if you change your mind. Please note that details hidden from the activity page may still be visible to other athletes elsewhere in the product. Additionally, other athletes may be able to deduce details that have been explicitly hidden using information that remains visible. For example, if you hide your Start Time, someone can infer it if you complete your activity in a group with someone who displays their start time.
How to Hide Details
You can hide your activity details via the Save Activity page after uploading a new activity recording. Look for the “Hidden Details” section when saving a new activity. Additionally, it is possible to hide details on a previously uploaded activity using the instructions below:
On the mobile app:
-
- Locate the activity on which you’d like to hide your details.
- Tap the three-dot icon in the upper right-hand corner.
- Tap Edit Activity.
- Scroll down and click the eye icon under "Hidden Details."
- Toggle the switch on (it will turn orange) next to the detail(s) you wish to hide.
- Tap the save or update button on the Edit Activity page to apply your changes.
On the website:
-
- On the Strava website, locate the activity on which you’d like to hide your details.
- Click the pencil icon to edit the activity.
- Check the box next to the detail(s) you would like to hide
- Click the “Save” button on the Edit Activity page to apply your changes.
Defaults for Hidden Details
Athletes can now set defaults for which details are hidden so they do not need to be reset on each activity. The stats that can be controlled include Start Time, Pace, Speed, Calories, Power, and Heart Rate.
Default settings can be found:
-
- In the app, by going to the account settings menu from the You tab > Gear icon > Privacy Controls > Hidden Details
- On the web, by going to the Profile Menu dropdown > Settings > Privacy Controls.
Setting defaults will not hide stats retroactively; it only affects activities uploaded after the setting is saved.
FAQs
Can I still see my own details?
Yes, you will still be able to see any details you've hidden on your activities.
If I hide my details, will they still contribute to training features like Fitness and Freshness or Relative Effort?
Yes, hidden data will still count towards these features. Relative Effort will also be hidden from other athletes if you choose to hide your heart rate, however.
Can I bulk-update old activities so that my details are hidden?
You can hide your heart rate from all your previous activities using the instructions outlined here. At this time, it is not possible to hide your pace/speed, power, or calories in bulk, however.
How is hiding heart rate different than approving/denying Strava from processing health-related data?
Hiding heart rate will allow you to continue seeing this data on your activities but hide it from other athletes. Denying Strava consent to process and store your health-related data will remove heart rate data entirely. It will be stripped from your activity files so neither you nor anyone else will see it. You can read more here.
Does hiding my start time also remove the date?
Hiding your start time does not remove the date; your activity will either say today or the date.
