The Strava MCP (Model Context Protocol) Connector is now part of the Strava subscription, built with security and quality guardrails in place. It's the supported path for athletes who want to interact with their Strava data through AI.

The Strava MCP Connector is a remote server that provides subscribers with conversational access to their activity data via AI assistants. It also provides, for the first time, access to subscription features such as training analytics outside the Strava app or website.

Athletes connect via OAuth and can ask questions in natural language about their activities, fitness trends, and training load. Answers come from live Strava data, not a static export.

FAQs

What can I ask my AI assistant about my training?

You can connect Strava directly to Claude or Gemini for more personalized answers grounded in your activity history. Explore your progress, compare training over time, and uncover patterns across your activities to better understand how your efforts add up.

“What types of activities have most improved my fitness?”

  • Unlock your full training history, analyzed in plain language. Volume trends, pace over time, how specific training cycles have stacked up against your best.

“Are my easy days easy enough?”

  • It’s hard to keep your pace low. Look back at all your easier efforts in context to inform your perspective.

“How is my cross-training affecting my running?”

  • Synthesize trends across strength, cycling, running, or however you stay active.

Which AI assistants can I connect Strava to?

You can connect Strava to Claude (since June 2026) and Google Gemini (since October 2026). We’re looking at adding more AI assistants in the future.

Where can I connect Strava to Gemini?

At launch, connecting Strava to Gemini is only available in the US. We’re working on bringing it to more countries soon.

Do I need a Strava subscription?

Yes. Connecting Strava to an AI assistant is included with these subscriptions:

Can my AI assistant upload or edit my activities?

No. The connection is read-only. Your AI assistant can read your Strava data to answer your questions, but it can’t upload, edit, or delete anything.

Is my data secure?

Strava built its MCP server with security and quality guardrails. As always, your data stays yours. The connection is read-only, limited to your own account, and you can disconnect anytime from Strava settings.

You can learn more about Claude’s security and privacy here, and Gemini’s here.

How is this different from exporting my data and uploading it to my AI assistant?

When you connect Strava, your AI assistant reads your live data each time you ask a question, and it can use subscription features like training analytics. The connection stays in place, so there’s nothing to re-upload.

Exporting your data and uploading it is more manual, and it only gives your AI assistant a snapshot from one point in time. Your AI assistant reads it once, in that conversation, and then it’s gone.

Why did my AI assistant give me a different answer than the Strava app?

AI assistants process information in their own ways, so their insights and answers may differ from what you see on Strava (for example, Performance Predictions or your Runna training plan).

Are there limits to what I can do?

Once connected, your AI assistant can currently use your Strava data for activity history, fitness trends, cross-sport insights, gear, best efforts, activity weather, and streaks. We’ll be adding more in the future. There’s also a limit to how many requests you can make per minute and per day.
