Connect Apple Health and the Apple Workout app to Strava
Strava integrates with Apple Health and the Apple Workout app to sync your activities in both directions. You can upload activities recorded with the Apple Workout app to Strava, and automatically send Strava activities to Apple Health.
Connect your accounts
On the Strava app, tap the settings icon in the upper corner of the You tab.
Tap Manage Apps and Devices > Health > the plus icon.
Tap Connect on the next screen.
You'll be taken to the Health Access page. Enable Workouts & Routes to allow data sharing. You can also control which other data types Strava reads and writes to Apple Health.
To adjust permissions after setup, open the Apple Health app and tap Sources > Strava.
Sync from Strava to Apple Health
Go to Settings > Manage Apps and Devices > Health.
Toggle Send to Health on.
Strava will automatically send route information, activity type, distance, time, and calories to Apple Health. Note that route information from third-party activities (such as Garmin or Zwift) will not sync to Apple Health.
Sync from Apple Workout app to Strava
Only activities recorded with the native Apple Workout app within the past 30 days can sync to Strava. Activities uploaded to Apple Health from a third-party app will not sync.
To sync automatically:
Go to Settings > Manage Apps and Devices > Health.
Toggle Automatic Uploads on.
To import activities manually, tap Import next to any activity you'd like to add to Strava.
Notifications
If automatic sync is on, you'll receive a push notification and an in-app notification (bell icon) when an activity successfully syncs.
If automatic sync fails, you'll receive a push notification prompting you to import the activity manually.
To be notified when a new Apple Workout app activity is ready to upload, go to Settings > Manage Apps and Devices > Health and toggle Notifications for new workouts on.
Each time you open Strava, an in-app notification (bell icon) will appear if an Apple Health workout is ready to upload.
Troubleshooting
Strava activities not syncing to Apple Health
Force close the Apple Health app, then open the Strava app and pull down on the You feed to trigger a refresh.
Apple Workout app activities not syncing to Strava
First, confirm that the activity was recorded with the native Apple Workout app — activities from third-party apps will not sync.
If the activity is visible but won't import:
Go to Settings > Manage Apps and Devices > Health and tap Import next to the activity.
If the activity shows as imported but doesn't appear in Strava, it may be a duplicate. Strava does not allow duplicate activities. Go to your activity history and check if an activity with the same date and time already exists. If so, delete the existing activity and try importing again.
If the activity doesn't appear for import at all, you may have missing permissions. Go to Settings > Manage Apps and Devices > Health and tap Connect with Health. Then go to Settings > Apps > Health > Data Access and Devices > Strava and toggle on all necessary permissions. Return to Manage Apps and Devices > Health to check if the activity is now available to import.
