Google Health and Strava

Written by Rochelle Garcia

The Google Health and Strava integration has been updated. You can now automatically sync any activity you log in Google Health to Strava.

How does the updated integration compare to the previous one?

  • More activity types: You can sync any activity type logged in Google Health to Strava, with or without GPS. The previous integration only supported bikes, runs, hikes, and walks recorded with GPS.

  • More control: You can now choose which activity types sync to Strava.

How to update your connection

To take advantage of the updates, update your connection using one of the options below. If you don't update your connection, only bikes, runs, hikes, and walks with GPS will continue to sync.

  • Starting in the Strava app: Go to You > Settings > Connect an app or device > Google Health.

  • Starting in the Google Health app: Go to your account settings (top right) > Partner Apps > Strava (listed under Add connections).

Choosing which activities sync

You can control which activities sync to Strava from the Google Health app. Go to account settings (top right) > Partner Apps > Strava > Activity writing, then select the activity types you want synced.

Once connected, new activities sync automatically from Google Health to Strava. To export a previous activity from Google Health and upload it directly to Strava, refer to Google Health's data export instructions. Note: Any changes you make to an activity in the Google Health app will not be reflected in Strava.

Important: Activities logged in Strava will no longer sync to Google Health via the Strava integration, regardless of your connection settings. We're working with Google to enable more options for logging activities from Strava to Google Health.

What do I do if my Google Health data isn't syncing to Strava?

Work through these steps:

  1. Reconnect your accounts and confirm you've accepted the option to "Upload your activities from Google Health to Strava." Then sync your Fitbit tracker or Pixel Watch and wait an hour.

  2. Confirm you aren't recording the same exercise in the Strava app and Google Health app at the same time.

  3. Confirm you recorded a new exercise after connecting your accounts. Activities recorded before connecting won't be uploaded.

If those steps don't work, export the activity as a TCX file from Google Health and upload it to Strava:

  1. In the Google Health app, tap the Fitness tab.

  2. Select the activity you want to export.

  3. Tap the three dots, then tap Export.

  4. Share or save the file to your device, then upload it to Strava.
