Strava subscribers can now view a Night Heatmap. Night heatmaps will show 'heat' from activities recorded from the past 1 year between sunset and sunrise, allowing you to plan your activity easily.
Real-world conditions are always changing, and areas may not be well-lit or contain other hazards. Please use caution.
From the Strava website
Click on "Maps" from the top navigation menu, select "Heatmaps," and check the box to enable the Night Heatmap. Use the sport type selector to pick a single sport or group of sports you want to view on your heatmap. The following sport types are included in these groups:
-
- All Sports: All sport types. (Excludes virtual activities)
- All Foot Sports: Run, Trail Run, Walk, Hike.
- All Cycle Sports: Ride, Handcycle, Wheelchair, Velomobile, E-Bike Ride, Mountain Bike Ride, Gravel Bike Ride, E-Mountain Bike Ride.
- All Water Sports: Swim, Kitesurf, Windsurfing, Kayaking, Rowing, Stand Up Paddling, Surfing, Canoeing, Sailing.
- All Winter Sports: Alpine Ski, Backcountry Ski, Ice Skate, Nordic Ski, Snowboard, and Snowshoe.
From the Strava mobile app
You can access the Night Heatmap on the mobile app from the maps tab or the map on the record screen. Tap the layering icon on the right side of your screen to view your map settings. Scroll down to Heatmaps and select “Night” to enable or disable the Night Heatmap.
We recommend that you view one heatmap at a time so you can tell which 'heat' signatures belong to which. It is also important to note that Strava’s night heatmaps are not meant to be used as a safety feature. The night heatmap shows where other athletes record their activities at night.
