Strava automatically joins you to active segment challenges when you complete a designated segment. This helps you discover new challenges along your routes. You can control this feature using the Challenge Participation privacy setting.
How Challenge Participation Works
When Challenge Participation is enabled, you'll automatically join any active segment challenges along your route. This setting is turned on by default and does not affect your activity visibility settings.
To complete a segment challenge and appear on the leaderboard, your activity must be set to Everyone. If your activity is set to Followers or Only You, you'll be automatically joined to the challenge but won't be able to complete it or appear on the leaderboard until you update your activity visibility to Everyone.
You can leave any active challenge at any time.
Update Your Challenge Participation Setting
To update this setting in the Strava mobile app:
- Go to the "You" tab.
- Tap the gear icon to open settings and select "Privacy Controls".
- Toggle "Challenge Participation" on or off.
