Maps on both the Strava mobile app and website include a Points of Interest (POI) map layer to help you find the best spots in your area. POIs can help identify popular spots where people start activities (like parking lots or trailheads) and useful locations throughout your activity (like bike shops, cafes, water fountains, restrooms, and photo spots).
You can see a legend of the Points of Interest and Start Points here.
Using Points of Interest for Route Planning
To view suggested routes from one of the POIs, navigate to the Maps tab, select Routes from the dropdown menu in the upper right-hand corner, and tap the POI you want suggested routes from. You can also build a route to a POI by selecting “Route Here.”
How Points of Interest Are Generated
We use aggregated and de-identified data to identify POIs that are popular amongst our community for inclusion in the map layer. While we aim to show accurate information about POIs, POI information may be out of date or wrong.
