Strava Map Layers

Strava subscribers can enable layers on their maps for various winter and trail sports. From the mobile app’s Maps tab, click the map layers icon on the right to open the map settings page. On this page, you can select the desired map layers, as well as map types and heatmaps.

Available map layers include:

  • Avalanche Gradient - Shows only the slope gradients where an avalanche is likely to release, from 25° to 45°+.
  • Gradient - Shows slope angle from 0° to 90°. For analyzing avalanche risk, the avalanche layer will also be useful.
  • Aspect - Shows the direction a slope faces.
  • Points of Interest - Shows community-powered local hot spots that help you get around and make your runs, rides, and hikes safer and more fun.
