Best Efforts - Challenge

Best Efforts tracks your fastest times at benchmark running and cycling distances, as well as your best power outputs on the bike. Your performances are tracked automatically with GPS and power data from your running and cycling activities. Read this article to learn more about Best Efforts.

Strava has introduced new Best Effort Challenges designed to encourage athletes to push their limits and reach their full potential. Best Effort Challenges provide athletes with personalized targets based on their previous performance data.

How it Works

Go to the Challenge Gallery to find Best Effort challenges and click "Join" to get started. On the mobile app, use the "Groups" tab to find the Challenge Gallery. Strava will use your previous performance data to set the Best Efforts goal. If you do not have a best effort for the challenge's distance, your goal will be determined by the challenge settings. Challenges are only available for running Best Efforts.

You will compete against yourself in Best Effort challenges; they currently do not include leaderboards.

FAQ

Can I edit or remove my previous Best Effort if I need to?

Running and Cycling Best Efforts can be removed and edited. To learn more about removing and editing Best Efforts, read this article.

What if my activity distance is recorded just short of the distance?

GPS issues can affect your activity’s distance. If your activity’s distance comes up short of your target distance, try correcting your activity’s distance. Read here for more.

Why is my activity’s pace different than my challenge results?

Best Efforts are calculated according to total elapsed time. We like to think of these efforts as a race, and in a race, the clock keeps running even if you stop.

For your overall activity, we calculate your moving time versus your total elapsed time - which will be reflected by your activity's average speed or pace. Still, for these Best Effort times, we will only compare your total time, including challenges.
