If your activity is missing a map, there are a few reasons this might happen. Try the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.
Check if the Activity Was Marked as Indoor
Indoor activities don’t include GPS data, so a map won’t be displayed. To remove the indoor tag:
-
- From the Strava website, open your activity and click the pencil icon to edit.
- Look for tags like “Treadmill” or “Indoor”.
- Click to unselect the tag. Gray means it’s selected.
- Click Save & View Activity.
If the activity still doesn’t display a map on your device, it may not have recorded GPS data. Be sure you are recording an outdoor activity with GPS turned on. Please note that if part of your activity was not recorded by GPS, for example, if your device lost signal or was paused, Strava cannot add this missing data back.
Consider Your Privacy Zone Settings
The map will be hidden if the entire activity occurred within your privacy zone. For more details, read our Privacy Controls to confirm your settings match your preferences.
Troubleshooting
There are a couple of ways to get credit for your efforts.
-
- Create a manual activity. You can log the distance and time manually. This activity won’t match segments or count toward Strava Challenge Leaderboards, but it can count for some progress tracking.
- Accept a shared activity from a friend. If you were with another athlete who recorded the activity, they can share their version. They need to click “Add Friend” on their activity page to share. Once you accept, the activity will appear on your profile, count toward personal stats, and apply to Challenges and Clubs.
- Restart your device. If you're recording your activity with a third-party device, try restarting it to reset the GPS and see if that helps resolve the issues. If it does not, contact the device manufacturer for further instructions.
It will not count toward segment leaderboards or include heart, power, or cadence data. To avoid duplicate mileage, be sure to delete your original partial activity.
