To change your email address, log in to your Strava account and follow the steps below.
Update Your Email on the Strava Website
Hover over your profile picture in the top right corner and select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
Select "My Account" from the menu on the left side.
Scroll down to "Login Details" and select "Change Email Address."
Enter your new email address and click "Next."
Update Your Email on the Strava App
Select the "You" tab from the lower right of your screen.
Tap the settings icon on the top right and select "Change Email."
Enter your new email address and tap "Next."
The exact steps to complete the change email process depend on how your account authenticates: with a password, with a one-time code (OTC), or through a third-party account such as Google or Apple. If you are not sure which method your account uses, see the section below before proceeding.
Not Sure How You Log In to Strava?
Many people cannot answer this question with certainty, and the most common answers, "Face ID," "the fingerprint sensor," or "I do not know, the app just opens," describe something other than the account's actual login method. Biometric unlock and "staying logged in" happen at the device level. Face ID or Touch ID simply autofills your email address and possibly a password that your device has already stored. It does not replace the authentication method Strava has on file for the account itself.
Every Strava account authenticates in one of three ways:
Password. A password stored on your Strava account.
One-time code (OTC). A code emailed to you each time you log in, with no stored password.
Third-party sign-in. Log in through a Google account or through "Sign in with Apple." Facebook login is no longer supported; see Facebook Login Is No Longer Supported if this previously applied to you.
A Strava account can have password authentication or OTC authentication enabled, but never both at the same time. You can determine your account's status by logging out of Strava, then logging back in using only your email address:
If your account already has OTC enabled, Strava will send you a one-time code right away, with no further choice to make.
If OTC is not yet enabled, Strava will show a prompt asking whether you want to enable one-time codes or continue using a password.
If you do have a password, entering it here will log you in as usual.
If you choose to continue with a password but have no password for the account, you will not be able to log in — this is expected for accounts created through Google or Apple sign-in that have never set a password. If this happens, use the third-party instructions below and choose the one-time code option instead.
Follow the Steps for Your Account's Login Method
If You Log In With a Password
Provide your Strava account's password in the password field.
Once you have submitted the correct password, a confirmation link will be sent to the new email address you provided.
Find that email and click the confirmation link while logged into your Strava account to complete the change.
If you are logged out when you click the link, you will be prompted to log in first. You must log in using the current email address still on file, not the new one you are trying to switch to. The email change only finalizes after you click the confirmation link while logged in, and Strava will display a message confirming the address has been updated.
If You Log In With a One-Time Code (OTC)
A one-time code will be sent to the email address currently associated with your Strava account. Enter that code on Strava to continue.
If you no longer have access to that email address, contact our support team for help.
After you confirm your current email address, a second one-time code will be sent to the new email address you provided. Enter that code to complete the change.
If Your Account Was Created Through Google or Apple Sign-In
Accounts created this way do not have a password set by default, and OTC authentication is not formally enabled on them either, until one of the two is enabled for the first time. Because a Strava account cannot have both a password and OTC active at the same time, you have two options, and you should use only one of them:
Option 1: Enable one-time codes. If you have access to the email address currently associated with your Strava account, choose this option. Log out and log back in using only your email address. When Strava asks whether you want to enable one-time codes or continue using a password, choose to enable one-time codes. Do not choose to continue with a password, since your account does not have one set and you will not be able to complete a login that way. You will receive a one-time code by email as long as you have access to that address, and entering it successfully enables OTC authentication on your account going forward. Once enabled, follow the OTC steps above to change your email address.
Option 2: Set a password instead. If you do not have access to the email address currently associated with your Strava account, choose this option. Go to the account recovery page and enter the email address associated with your account. If you signed up with "Sign in with Apple" and used Apple's Hide My Email feature, use the proxy address assigned by Apple (it will look like an address ending in privaterelay.appleid.com); see Sign in With Apple if you are unsure which address that is. Strava will send a password reset link to that address. Follow it to set a password, then follow the password-based steps above to change your email address.
If you previously used Facebook to log in, Facebook login is no longer supported. Review Facebook Login Is No Longer Supported, which will similarly involve enabling either OTC or a password before you can change your email address.
If You See an Error Message
If you see the message "This is not a valid email address," you may already have a Strava account associated with that email address. Log out and delete the duplicate account, then log back in and try updating your email again.
After You Change Your Email
We recommend logging out of Strava on all mobile devices and web browsers, then logging back in. This ensures your email address does not revert to the previous account information on a device that was still signed in under the old credentials.
If You Cannot Complete These Steps
If you cannot access your Strava account, do not have access to your old email, or are unsure which login method applies to your account at any point in this process, contact our support team and provide as much information as possible to help verify your account.
